    Abstract: As provided herein, a dual- or quad-ridged broadband horn antenna may include a pair of conductive antenna elements arranged opposite one another for guiding an electromagnetic wave in a longitudinal direction through the horn antenna. In some cases, the pair of conductive antenna elements may include substantially convex inner surfaces and appropriately shaped outer surfaces. The convex inner surfaces may generally function to direct or guide the radiated energy without disturbing the intended radiation pattern. To maintain the intended radiation pattern, the broadband horn antenna may also include a pair of tapered extension elements, each coupled to an outer surface of a different one of the antenna elements at one end thereof. In some cases, a magnetic material may be arranged upon at least a portion of the antenna elements to restrict surface currents to flowing along the inner surfaces only.

    Abstract: A niobium cavity exhibiting high quality factors at high gradients is provided by treating a niobium cavity through a process comprising: 1) removing surface oxides by plasma etching or a similar process; 2) removing hydrogen or other gases absorbed in the bulk niobium by high temperature treatment of the cavity under ultra high vacuum to achieve hydrogen outgassing; and 3) assuring the long term chemical stability of the niobium cavity by applying a passivating layer of a superconducting material having a superconducting transition temperature higher than niobium thereby reducing losses from electron (cooper pair) scattering in the near surface region of the interior of the niobium cavity. According to a preferred embodiment, the passivating layer comprises niobium nitride (NbN) applied by reactive sputtering.

The first and the second radiation arms respectively have a first resonant mode and a second resonant mode which jointly generate a high frequency operating band, while the third radiation arm has a third resonant mode which generates a low frequency operating band. The grounding plane is connected to the radiating element via the short-circuiting element to miniaturize the scale of the antenna. The short-circuiting regulator of the grounding plane enhances the impedance matching when high frequency resonance occurs.

The first DAC 13 and the second DAC 14 handle relatively simple intensity conversion data obtained from the linear data table 11 and the ? correction data table 12 and analog convert such data.

A grounding metal surface is fabricated on the other side of the printed circuit board at a position other than the antenna unit, and keeps a specific distance from at least one corresponding edge of the antenna unit. Since the antenna units are symmetric in shape and have the same feeding end, the radiation direction thereof is shifted towards the two symmetric edges to broaden the range of the use of two symmetric edges.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for containing plasma and forming a Field Reversed Configuration (FRC) magnetic topology are described in which plasma ions are contained magnetically in stable, non-adiabatic orbits in the FRC. Further, the electrons are contained electrostatically in a deep energy well, created by tuning an externally applied magnetic field. The simultaneous electrostatic confinement of electrons and magnetic confinement of ions avoids anomalous transport and facilitates classical containment of both electrons and ions. In this configuration, ions and electrons may have adequate density and temperature so that upon collisions they are fused together by nuclear force, thus releasing fusion energy. Moreover, the fusion fuel plasmas that can be used with the present confinement system and method are not limited to neutronic fuels only, but also advantageously include advanced fuels.
