  • Patent number: 4679367
Abstract: A rigid wooden composite assembly such as a beam, post or the like, includes a plurality of elongated wooden boards of varying lengths disposed in face-to-face relationship and forming a plurality of layers. At least one of the layers includes a plurality of boards, the inner ends of which abut to form a joint therebetween. A connector device has a base plate with openings therein. Prongs extend outwardly from the plate and initially generally normal thereto. The prongs of adjacent openings extend in opposite directions from the plate. The connector device is disposed between the layers so that the base plate bridges the inner portion of the joint and the oppositely extending prongs penetrate the opposing board faces. When the assembly is compressed together, the prongs deform and clinchingly engage the wood surrounding the joint. The abutting boards are spliced together, and the facing boards are held tightly together.

  • Patent number: 4675972
Abstract: An insulating material plate (4) is fixed to the surface (6) of a structure (8) by a dowel (2) with a disk-like head (14), countersunk in a countersunk hole (24) of plate (4) and carrying on its outer surface an insulating material washer (10). Washer (10) prevents the thin plaster layer (22) from separating at the location of dowel head (14), due to the thermal expansions and differing thermal conduction between the dowel material and the mortar material. The insulating material washer (10), which is e.g. made from the same material as the insulating plate, also makes it possible to level the outer surface (20) of the insulating material plate by abrasion, prior to the application of the mortar layer, so that a smaller thickness of the latter can be used.

  • Patent number: 4672006
Abstract: A system is described for processing an entire tree into wood fiber material for molding the constituent wood elements into custom molded wood products. A delimber removes limbs and leaves from the trunk, a debarker removes bark from the trunk of the delimbed tree, and a splitter separating sequence is constructed and arranged for separating the debarked trunk into elongate pieces of substantially equal cross-sectional area. A graduated roller mill having a sequence of pairs of compressor rollers with the rollers of each pair spaced successively closer together receives the elongate pieces of wood and extrudes and delivers thin sheets of wood at the output end. Liquid squeezed from the wood sheets is collected and separated into resins and water. A shredder shreds and fragments the wood sheet wood fibers into a loosely bonded mat of substantially separate striated wood fibers. The mat is cut or chopped into wood fibers of substantially uniform length.
