  • Patent number: 4657056
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly for a log debarker. A cutting tool is provided having an elongated leading cutting edge and a key member. The key member fits into the load carrying slot portion of the head of the tool shaft, and the tool is then secured to the tool shaft head with a plurality of retainer bolts. The tool shaft head is machined at an angle of generally five degrees relative to the axis of an incoming log so as to slant the orientation of the tool and its leading edge. Thus, an incoming log will impact initially a central location of the tool and not its full length. A tensioning device places the tool shaft in tension about a pivot axis and the outermost tip of the tool continually points towards the center line of an incoming log as the tool shaft pivots about this pivot axis. Every other tool is extended a slight distance further towards the incoming log than the adjacent tools by an extension spacer or washer to further reduce the shock loading previously encountered.

  • Patent number: 4655109
Abstract: For severing long workpieces, in particular pipes of metal material, especially at high temperatures, in a normal plane relative to the axis at an arbitrary site with the aid of a metal-cutting tool, a workpiece is firmly clamped and at a standstill, while the tool is guided in an interrupted cut around the workpiece with continuous radial advancement. The tool remains in engagement with the workpiece over only a portion of its path, which is effected by way of example in that the central circling of the cutting movement has superimposed upon it an eccentric planetary movement, so that the line of cutting is not a continuous circular line. In an apparatus for performing this method, a knife head (3) equipped with cutting knives (5) is seated on the end toward the cut of a hollow working shaft (2) rotating in a housing (1). A hollow control shaft (7) is preferably supported centrally in the hollow working hsaft (2) carrying the knife head (3).

  • Patent number: 4655267
Abstract: A holder for embossing items of irregular cross-section is utilized in an embossing machine which has a pair of opposed platens with embossing dies mounted thereon. The holder includes a support plate positioned between the platens and having a central opening formed therein for receiving the die mounted on a first one of the platens. A pair of support blocks extends from the support plate toward the second platen on opposite sides of the opening and supports an article to be embossed over the opening. A plurality of guide posts extend from the first platen through apertures formed in the support plate and helical biasing springs encircle the guide posts to space the support plate and the article from the first die. As the second platen is moved toward the first platen, the second die engages the article and moves the article and the support plate against the biasing means to engage the article with the first die. Thus, equal pressure is applied to the article by the first and second dies.
