Abstract: Disclosed is the use of a cardiac glycoside to decrease or inhibit the secretion of proinflammatory mediators in the treatment of disease conditions characterized by elevated levels of the proinflammatory mediator. The cardiac glycoside is administered to a mammalian subject in need of such treatment, and dosage is adjusted to the mass of the recipient and the need of the recipient to reduce or inhibit the level of the proinflammatory mediator. The proinflammatory mediators suppressed by the invention include IL-8, IL-6, TNFalpha, ICAM-1, IFNgamma, IL-1-beta, MCP-1, MIP-2, and/or epithelial-mesenchymal-transition (EMT). The cardiac glycoside, digitoxin or oleandrin, can be formulated for administration by injection or as an aerosol administered to the respiratory tract or by being ingested, or as nose drops or nasal spray. According to one use, the digitoxin controls microRNA expression in castration-resistant prostate cancer. The microRNA suppresses IL-8 and IL-6 expression in these cells.

Abstract: The present invention primarily concerns teeth cleaning compounds containing menthol for use with a toothbrush, preferably tooth pastes, tooth crèmes, tooth cleaning gels or tooth powders. Such a tooth cleaning compound according to the invention contains menthol and a quantity, for masking the bitterness of the menthol, of menthane carboxylic acid-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-amide (WS-12) of the following formula (Ia), in particular of the following formula (Ib), i.e. L-menthane carboxylic acid-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-amide. The present invention also concerns the use of menthane carboxylic acid-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-amide (WS-12) of the formulas (Ia) or (preferably) (Ib) to mask the bitter taste of menthol in a teeth cleaning compound. The present invention also concerns a method for dissolving menthane carboxylic acid-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-amide (WS-12) in a teeth cleaning compound and a method for masking the bitterness of menthol in a teeth cleaning compound.
Abstract: Presently described are dental compositions comprising one or more fatty mono(meth)acrylates, methods of use, dental articles, and methods of making dental compositions. It has been found that a relatively low concentration of a fatty mono(meth)acrylate can improve the handling characteristics of a dental composition by reducing the tendency of the composition to stick to a dental instrument and/or by reducing the tendency of a dental composition to string when being manipulated by a dental instrument. In one embodiment, a hardenable dental composition is described comprising a polymerizable resin composition comprising at least one multifunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer; 0.2 to 10 wt-% of one or more fatty mono(meth)acrylate monomers; and at least 50 wt-% of inorganic oxide filler.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are oral care compositions comprising a colorant blend comprising a triarylmethane green colorant and a naphthalene sulfonate yellow colorant in a weight ratio of from 2:1 to 1:2; and a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl alkene flavorant.
