Abstract: There is provided a tap water purifier to be directly coupled to a faucet pipe, which includes a water purifying barel filled with a filter medium and a cylindrical valve body integral with the purifying barrel. The purifying barrel having opposite opening ends. The valve body is inserted in a cylindrical bore formed in a casing for rotation about the longitudinal axis of the valve body. The casing has tap water inlet port means, tap water outlet port means and purified water outlet port means formed therein, the tap water inlet port means and the purified water outlet port means opening to the cylindrical bore in the casing at an angular distance of 180.degree. from each other in the same axial position. The valve body includes first and second flow path means formed therein, the first flow path means being communicated with one opening end of the purifying barrel, the second flow path means being communicated with the other opening end of the purifying barrel.

Abstract: A filter device includes a tube connectible to a fluid line for the fluid to be filtered, and a housing enclosing the tube and including a partition dividing its internal chamber into two compartments each including a filter body. The housing and partition are movable axially of the tube to position the partition with respect to the inlet opening at: (a) a first position to cause both filter bodies to perform a filtering function, (b) a second position to cause the first filter body to perform a filtering function, or (c) a third position to cause the second filter body to perform a filtering function.
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for treating and removing particulate matter from fluid circulatable into, through and out of an industrial operation, and for cleaning a disposable cartridge filter used therein. In treatment of fluid, the fluid is circulated in a flow path and is introduced into a filter vessel having a disposable cartridge filter. The fluid flows through the cartridge filter at a rate of flow insufficient to produce a buildup of a substantially non-porous solids filter cake around the exterior of the cartridge filter. The clean fluid is circulated to the industrial operation. The cleaning method and apparatus includes a storage vessel in selective fluid communication with the interior of the first vessel such that clean fluid may be flowed from the storage vessel into the interior of the cartridge filter then through and thereafter exterior of the cartridge filter to effectively remove the particulate matter deposited on or around the exterior of the cartridge filter.
Abstract: A water filter with improved filtration efficiency and extended operational period. The filter includes a cassette member filled with filtration and activation agents, where a water path connecting a water inlet pipe and an open upper end of the cassette member is formed between an outer housing member and the cassette member, while an open lower end is directly connected with the water inlet pipe; a center pipe located inside the cassette member for connecting an inside of the cassette member with a water outlet pipe; and a damper member placed inside the cassette member which is vertically slidable along the center pipe, which divides the inside of the cassette member into an upper filtration chamber connected with the upper end and a lower filtration chamber connected with the lower end, where the water flows through the upper filtration chamber from the upper end and the lower filtration chamber from the lower end alternatively.
Abstract: A filter constructed of sections of plastic pipe reinforced by plastic bands glued to the pipe to increase the wall thickness at strategic locations and increase the surface area adjacent seals between the canister components. An encircling steel ring cooperates with a shoulder provided by one band for clamping three seals with one clamp. A second similar ring and band clamps a fourth seal. All seal clamps are of steel construction and are not exposed to corrosive fluid entering the filter. Commercially available stainless steel Helicoil thread inserts are utilized in holes through plastic material to afford greater strength and longevity for the filter.
Abstract: An end connector system for connecting a plurality of filter units in series has first and second end connectors secured to the ends of filter units. Each end connector has a base with a sealing surface and a connecting portion for engagement with the connecting portion of another end connector. The connecting portions have overlapping surfaces that overlap in the radial direction of the bases when the connecting portions are engaged with one another. A seal member is disposed between the first and second end connectors and is pressed into sealing contact with the sealing surfaces of the bases by a compression-generating member such as a tie rod. When the sealing surfaces are in sealing contact with the seal member, the overlapping surfaces of the connecting portions are separated from one another. As a result, all forces for producing a liquid-tight seal between the end connectors are generated by the compression-generating member and not by the end connectors themselves.
Abstract: A strainer assembly for removing solid particulates from a fluid has a housing shaped as an elbow-shaped conduit and a support member for supporting a screen adjacent a forwardly extending flange on an inlet conduit section of the housing, the housing also comprising an enlarged intermediate section, in which the support member is disposed, and an outlet conduit section. The support member is threadedly engaged in a wall of the enlarged intermediate section of the housing and preferably has a base and a plurality of posts extending from the base, with the screen seated on the distal ends of the posts. Fluid entering the housing through the inlet section passes through the screen and then through passageways between the posts of the support member and is then discharged from the housing through the outlet conduit section.
Abstract: A filter bag which is for use in a liquid filter and which includes a liquid impervious shape-retaining edge portion defining the opening into the filter bag. The edge portion includes an annular inverted V-shaped part which terminates in an annular upturned lip part. The inverted V-shaped part of the filter bag edge portion allows the bag to be placed over a protruding upwardly directed lip in the filter housing while, optionally, the upturned lip part of the bag's edge portion permits the bag to be fitted into the filter housing with the lip part being restrictively fitted between a shoulder or support and an overlying lip formed in the filter housing. Further, the upturned lip part of the filter bag can be wedged into a filter housing to secure the bag independently of the filter top.
Abstract: Multichamber-candle filter element for filtration of a residual volume of a suspension with rapidly settling solid components, includes at least two chambers (1,2) positioned in succession above each other, a lowest of the chambers being from 1/3 to 1/10 of a total length of the candle filter element, and a separate filtrate delivery pipe (8,9) extending into each of the chambers to provide a separate filtrate outlet for each chamber and a partition member separating each of the chambers from each other in a fluid-tight manner. The multi-candle filter element also has a fluid-tight cover plate (6) and a fluid-tight bottom plate (3) and fluid permeable walls (14,15).

Abstract: A reverse osmosis water purification apparatus includes a housing sump, a protective canister disposed within the sump, a filter assembly, an outwater conduit and a manifold disposed within the canister, a valve cap mounted atop the manifold and operably related therewith and including a mounting bracket arranged for securement to a fixed support, a top cap disposed atop the valve cap, an inlet for unfiltered water, an outlet for filtered water together with an outlet for unfiltered water mounted on the valve cap, a rotatable collar threadedly coupled with the housing sump and cooperating with the valve cap to hold the parts in assembled condition or to render the housing sump, canister, filter units, outwater conduit and the manifold separable from the valve cap and parts associated therewith so as to enable the canister and its contents to be removed and replaced with new units without requiring the services of a skilled technician.

Abstract: A self-cleaning filter assembly for removing suspended matter from fluids, primarily utilized in irrigation or similar distribution systems, resulting in reduced maintenance of the filter assembly as well as the total system. The filter assembly comprises a container having at least one inlet aperture and at least one outlet aperture therethrough and a filter screen, comprising a hollow perforated body, inserted within the container. One end of a conduit is connected in fluid flow relationship to the inlet aperture of the container while the other end of the conduit terminates within the hollow body comprising the filter screen. The outlet aperture is so located that the fluid entering the container through the fluid inlet aperture and the conduit must pass through the filter screen before exiting the container through the outlet aperture.
Abstract: A tall open top plastic container has a closed bottom portion sealed to the lower end portion of a tubular water filter member having an upper end portion sealed to a removable plastic top wall within the container and sealed to the container. Flexible water inlet and outlet tubes have inner end portions connected through the top wall to an annular inlet chamber surrounding the filter member and a center outlet chamber within the filter member. A flexible vinyl coupler body receives the outer end portion of the inlet tube and forms a friction connection with a faucet aerator. In one embodiment, the upper portion of the container defines a cavity above the removable top wall, and the flexible tubes are coiled within the cavity where they are retained along with the coupler body during storage by a removable snap-on cap. The cavity may also be formed by an annular wall molded integrally with the removable top wall and covered by a removable cap.
Abstract: A filter cartridge comprising a pleated, cylindrical filter element is provided with an end densification ring to cause the ends of the pleats to pack together more tightly. In this configuration they can be more easily and securely sealed in an end cap closing off an end of the filter cartridge.
Abstract: A liquid purifying attachment for dispensing a liquid from a container, which includes a cylinder fluid-tightly attached to the container, and a piston fluid-tightly fitted in the cylinder bore such that the piston is slidably movable between a retracted and an advanced position, relative to the cylinder. The piston and the cylinder define a cylinder chamber into which ambient air is introduced upon movement of the piston toward the advanced position. The introduced air is compressed and fed into the container upon movement of the piston toward the retracted position, to deliver the liquid out of the container, through a filter disposed in a liquid delivery path which is exposed to the ambient air and communicates with the liquid mass.
Abstract: A water container assembly for drinking water includes a purifying unit located at the top of a container and mounted within the container. The purifying unit includes at least one filter having an outlet which communicates with the interior of the container. Water may be placed in the top of the purifying unit and then be purified as it passes through the filter and is discharged into the container.
Abstract: A filter cartridge comprising an elongated sheet of porous filter material folded into an array of primary pleats is further folded to define secondary pleats which are tucked between the primary pleats. The secondary pleats define tapered portions at the top and bottom of the filter media, thereby reducing the width of the pleats at the top and bottom thereof to a width less than the primary width of the pleats, to thereby minimize the amount of sealant required to seal the ends of the pleats. The secondary pleats also resist radial and circumferential collapse of the pleats during filtering.
Abstract: A faucet assembly with removable filter has a bottom housing portion attached to a source of water. A top housing portion that includes a spout means attaches and detaches from the bottom housing portion. A valve assembly carried in the bottom housing is movable between a closed position, blocking the passage of water through the bottom housing portion into the attached top housing portion, and an opened position permitting the passage of water through the bottom housing portion into attached the top housing portion. A filter is removably carried within the hollow interior of the top housing portion between the valve assembly and the spout. The filter makes sealing engagement with the valve assembly and with the spout as the top housing portion is attached to the bottom housing portion.
Abstract: A filter device for use in a domestic or office water supply system is provided. The device includes a container having an enclosed cavity, and includes a filter unit disposed in the cavity. The device is a two-stage device having a first radial flow filter subassembly and a second axial flow filter subassembly. The radial flow subassembly includes a radially inner perforated tube, a carbon block cylinder over the tube, prefilter cylinders over the carbon block cylinder, and a screen-like wrap layer over the radially outer second prefilter cylinder. The axial flow subassembly has a plurality of axial filter fiber tubes which have a support header wall. The header wall is mounted in a cup-shaped member. The cup-shaped member has a plurality of outlet passage slots at the closed end thereof and supports the header wall at the other end thereof.
