  • Patent number: 4020584
Abstract: A fishing tackle box, in form, similar to an attache case, the shells of which are molded of scuff-resistant vinyl, thermoplastic, or like material. Within the shells are blocks of molded Styrofoam or the like, to provide buoyancy for the box, should it accidentally fall into a body of water. The styrofoam material is molded about spaced strips of magnetized material so as to hold fish lures, tackle etc., thereto. Openings in the styrofoam provide space for reels, sinkers, lines, and other non-metallic materials carried in the box. The box is thus magnetic, and buoyant and would float and hold the tackle etc., in the box even though it fell in the water open.

  • Patent number: 4016670
Abstract: An ice fishing device has a rod and reel member pivotally connected between its ends to the upper end of a mast member which has its lower end portion firmly anchored in an ice mound (initially firmly packed wet snow or slush) adjacent to the hole in the ice, the rod and reel member being retained in normal fishing position by locating the pivotal connection forwardly of the center of gravity of the rod and reel member whereby a downward pull on the tip of the rod portion by a striking or hooked fish will swing the rod and reel member against the gravity force moment to signal the fisherman to reel the fish in. The pivotal connection between the rod and reel member and the mast member enables folding of the device to compact lateral and longitudinal size.

  • Patent number: 4015362
Abstract: A fishing line release mechanism has a permanent magnet positioned within a housing with the poles of the magnet arranged to draw a magnetic tripping member into the housing through an opening in which the tripping member is positioned. The tripping member includes at least one belaying pin which is arranged with its axis across the opening in the housing when the member is in a position where it is near, or in contact with, the permanent magnet. When sufficient tension is applied to a fishing line wrapped around the belaying pin at the time the tripping member is closest to the permanent magnet, the member is pulled away from the magnet and the axis of the belaying pin is lined up with the direction of pull of the fishing line to release the line over the free end of the pin. The release mechanism may include means for variably positioning the magnet with respect to the tripping member as well as a line guide through which a line may be drawn to the belaying pin or pins.

  • Patent number: 4015360
Abstract: An elongate hollow tapered rod formed of fiberglass reinforced plastic includes an elongate handle, an elongate intermediate section and an end section detachably connected together. An elongate flex-resistant element formed of graphite threads is positioned interiorly of and secured to the end portion of the fishing rod. The graphite flex-resistant element is more rigid but of substantially lighter weight than the fiberglass reinforced plastic to thereby impart stiffness to the end section without noticeably increasing the weight thereof.

  • Patent number: 4015359
Abstract: Apparatus for baiting fishing hooks attached at spaced intervals by snoods to a long line comprising guide means for receiving the lines, snoods and eyes of the hooks to channel them longitudinally and unobstructedly through said apparatus and restrict them against lateral displacement out of the guide means. Orienting and tensioning means, laterally offset from the guide means, momentarily engage each hook to progressively rotatably orient it while increasing the tension on the hook and its associated snood. As the hook then leaves the orienting and tensioning means, it flips into a baiting chamber to securely impale bait supplied thereto. The baited hook leaves the apparatus together with the snood and main line, thus reducing the chance of loss of bait by a whiplash action, in which the hook and snood have to be separated from the main line before passing through the baiter.

  • Patent number: 4014127
Abstract: A heavy duty fishing reel apparatus having a line-receiving reel rotatably attached to a frame. An extending member is pivotally attached to the frame, and an elastic restraining device, which is attached between the distended portion of the extending member and the frame provides an adjustable restoring force in response to the rotation of the extending member about its pivot axis. A sealed bearing pulley device having a simplified line-guiding wheel and rotational bearing assembly is pivotally attached to the distended portion of the extending member.

  • Patent number: 4014129
Abstract: A rod stabilizing handle and attachment for spinning-type fishing rods capable of floating a fishing rod and reel combination. A stabilizing handle member configured for attachment to or at the posterior handle portion of a spinning rod includes an elongate broad upwardly directed surface for normally matingly engaging a substantial length of that forearm of the fisherman which is holding the rod. Rod stabilization forces, distributed along the length of the stabilizing handle, are uniformly transmitted from the forearm to the rod to counterbalance opposing reaction forces when reeling in an object. The handle includes flotation support in a liquid media of the fishing rod and reel combination to which it is attached.

  • Patent number: 4014125
Abstract: The invention is a device for spearing fish and animals. It has a handgrip with a bore running lengthwise through it. Slidably mounted in the bore is a spear shaft propelled by a resilient band affixed to its end and to the handgrip. When a groove around the front portion of the spear shaft is moved back into the handgrip, a blade which moves inwardly in a slot extending from the outside of the handgrip through the wall of the bore snaps into the groove, locking the spear shaft in a state of readiness. The spear is fired by depressing a trigger which is attached to the locking blade and which moves the blade out of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4012863
Abstract: A release assembly for supporting and holding a fishing line to a downrigger line assembly below the water includes a support assembly having a socket formed therein. A special fitting received in the socket holds the fishing line until a hooked fish pulls the fitting from the socket. Maintenance of upward force on the fishing line holds the fitting in the socket to carry the lure attached to the line to the desired depth. Relaxation of the force on the line allows the fitting to release from the socket thereby releasing the line allowing freedom of the line to play the fish.

  • Patent number: 4004365
Abstract: A signaling fishing rod holder is provided with a clamp which can be used in one position to clamp the fishing rod holder to the horizontal planks of a pier and in another position to clamp the fishing rod holder to the vertical planking along the side of a boat. A clamp is adapted to cooperate with a ground inserted spike to mount the fishing rod holder on the bank of a body of water. The fishing rod holder includes a frame member secured tightly to the clamp and having an arm pivotally mounted thereon. An adjustable spring normally urges one end of the arm upwardly away from a switch mounted on the frame. An arcuate fishing pole holder is mounted on the arm and can be adjusted by means of an elongate slot and wing nut so as to adjust the angle of the fishing pole held therein without changing the relationship between the arm and the frame.

  • Patent number: 4000576
Abstract: A clamping apparatus includes two clamping members pivotally connected at a common point. A leaf spring, connected to a point on each member, tends to force the members together. The leaf spring is connected to one end of a rod, the other end of which is remote from the clamping members. The members are extended beyond the common point toward the remote end of the rod. An actuating device operable from the remote end of the rod, is connected to the extended ends of the clamping members. When the clamping members are opened, they are held in the open position until a selective operation of the actuating device initiates the closing of the clamping members. After the initiating movement, the clamping members are biased closed by the action of the leaf springs.

  • Patent number: 4000577
Abstract: A fish bait box having a chamber therein and an access opening through the top of the box has a bottom wall surface on its exterior whereby it can rest in upright position and slanted wall surfaces whereby it can selectively rest in either of two tilted positions. The chamber receives live bait and a shiftable medium for the bait and tilting of the box causes shifting of the medium from one end of the chamber to the other thereby exposing the bait for easy removal through the opening. The chamber can accommodate bait in the form of worms in a particulate bedding and tilting of the box causes roll-over of the bedding and exposure of the worms for easy removal. In another embodiment of the invention, a porous screen is provided to divide the chamber into two compartments. The chamber can then accommodate bait in the form of minnows in water, and tilting of the box causes water to drain from one compartment into the other compartment, leaving the minnows in the said one compartment exposed for easy removal.
