Abstract: A cheliform fish grip having an over-all specific gravity of less than that of water is obtained by constructing the parts of a plastic having a specific gravity greater than 1., and constructing the handle with an air compartment of sufficient size to reduce the over-all specific gravity to less than 1. The jaws of the fish grip are pivotally mounted on a body, an actuator is slidably mounted in the body and spring biased levers are pivotally connected to the actuator and to a central portion of each jaw.

Abstract: A combination fishing rod holder and fish hook setter apparatus comprising a rod holder having a trigger mechanism for releasably securing the rod holder in a predetermined or preselected position for holding a fishing rod, adjustable dual torsion spring means for supporting the rod holder whereby a predetermined pressure is transmitted to the rod holder upon release of the trigger mechanism, fish line receiving means carried by the trigger mechanism for receiving the fish line therearound, adjustable tension spring means engagable with the fish line receiving means for adjusting the pressure required on the fish line for releasing the trigger mechanism to set the fish hook, adjustable stop means for limiting the movement of the rod holder in one direction upon release of the trigger mechanism, and means for supporting the apparatus in a stable position during use thereof.

Abstract: A releasable fishing hook includes first and second integrally connected shank members which terminate in hook portions, the shank members being held in a closed position by a geniculated locking segment on each shank member which frictionally interlock but are releasable to allow the shank members to move to an open or outward position in response to contact with a fish or the like.

Abstract: A combination fishing rod has a plurality of hollow, tubular rod elements telescopically secured into a hollow handle and collapsed substantially completely into the handle for storing. A removable handle and reel seat member is frictionally held onto the handle section of the telescopic rod elements. The removable handle and reel seat are secured to the rod elements in one orientation to form a spinning rod and in another orientation to form a fly-casting rod. The removable handle and reel seat element is held to the fishing rod by sliding frictional engagement.

Abstract: A device which seeks to maintain itself in a predetermined temperature region in a body of fluid having various temperature regions as the fluid displacement volume of the device is automatically varied with temperature. The device is particularly adapted for fishing, as a bait or lure or the like is maintained within or vertically oscillates through a predetermined temperature layer or stratum in a large body of water, such as a lake or ocean or the like. However, the device may have numerous other uses in which it is desired to maintain an instrument or the like in liquid of a given temperature in a body of liquid having regions of various temperature.

Abstract: A perforated chum holder and dispenser is formed in two hingedly connected half sections having snap locking means, whereby the device may be closed around either a fishing line float for top fishing or a line sinker for bottom fishing. The opposite ends of the device are grooved to receive a fishing line or leader with a coacting locking element.

Abstract: A removable hand grip for use on a fishing rod handle of the type that mounts a reel having a stem projecting outwardly from the handle. The grip has a sheet like construction made from generally flexible material and is wrapped about the handle so that opposite edge portions thereof are overlapped. Each of the overlappd edge portions includes a pair of spaced flanges having adjacent ends defining an opening, and the openings receive the reel stem from opposite sides to completely cover the handle around the stem. Velcro strips on the flanges detachably secure the overlapped edge portions to each other and thereby removably secure the grip to the handle. The flanges of each edge portion have V-shaped configurations causing the grip to taper away from the reel stem in opposite directions along the handle with frustoconical configurations so the grip can accommodate a base of the reel stem which mounts the stem to a reel seat on the handle.

Abstract: An upstanding generally cylindrical body is provided and includes upper and lower vertically spaced closure walls extending and sealingly secured across the lower end portion of the body. An upwardly opening water receptacle is defined above the upper closure wall and a closed airtight chamber is defined within the body between the upper and lower closure walls. A tubular valve body is supported from and opens through the upper closure wall and has a valve element shiftably supported from the valve body for movement between open and closed positions. A support member is threadedly engaged with the end of the sleeve opening upwardly through the upper closure wall and includes an abutment portion selectively engageable with the valve element to variably displace the latter away from a closed position toward an open position for variably controlling the venting of air from the airtight chamber through the tubular valve body into the receptacle and aerating water disposed therein.

Abstract: A specially designed roller for shrimp peeling machines which includes a gapped portion along its length, for example at its upper end, to effectively shorten the effective peeling section of the machine without substantial modification of the basic machine itself by allowing the shrimp to fall through the gapped portion rather than traversing the full length of the roller. Heretofore, separate, different machines were necessary to achieve the highly desired advantages of the present invention. The special, gapped rollers are substituted for the standard peeling rollers which provide peeling action along their full length, when an effectively shorter peeling section is desired. Several different gapped rollers are disclosed, some reversible end-for-end and others forming a series of subsequently related rollers which have a varying location of the gap portion along the roller length.

Abstract: A device for use with fishing tackle, and especially a device for use in removing the twist from a fishing line, and especially from a monofilament fishing line. The device comprises a body having a connector for connecting the body to the end of a fishing line with the body having rib means or fin means thereon which cause it to rotate when it is drawn through the water by the line connected thereto. The body has two points of connection and rotates in a respective direction for each point to which the line is connected. The body may be in the form of a round body and the fins may be flat fins mounted on opposite sides of the body or the body may be provided with angular grooves forming ribs on the body with the points of connection being selected with reference to the ribs to provide for a respective rotation of the body for each of the connecting points.

Abstract: An improved actuator for a rotating frame trap wherein the actuator rings are of generally oblong shape, being elongated in the general direction of the respective actuator arms. This construction results in a more effective and versatile trap.

Abstract: A method for locating specific varieties of fish comprising the steps of making a plurality of passes with a boat, taking differential temperature measurements beneath the surface of the water during each pass, plotting the differential temperature measurements on a chart, making at least one depth versus temperature measurement for determining the temperature variance of the water with respect to the depth of the water and comparing said charted data with known fish environment references for locating likely position and depths for specific varieties of fish.

Abstract: A clamping device for grasping and holding a live, hooked fish, consisting of spaced jaw members made to close together and open apart by a foot-actuated toggle arrangement. The apparatus is attachable to a live well of a fishing boat. The jaws are normally biased together, thereby freeing one's hands so that manipulation of the fish and hook is possible.

Abstract: A thimble-like member worn on the thumb of the hand of a fisherman has a wedge-like member approximating a finger nail extending therefrom. The wedge-like member has spaced notches formed therein and extending from the edge thereof to receive and manipulate the resilient wire member of a leader snap.

Abstract: An animal trap comprising a tubular body with a protective material casing having a spring located in the body which is attached to a snare located outside of the body. The contraction of the spring is controlled by a trap setting mechanism including a release arm and the spring is released to contract and move the snare towards the body when the animal treads on the release arm.
