  • Patent number: 4419805
Abstract: A mechanical anchor including an expansion shell and a camming plug positioned in the shell is threaded onto the end of a mine roof bolt. A roof support plate is carried on the opposite end of the bolt. The mechanical anchor is inserted in a bore hole drilled in a rock formation with one or more resin cartridges advanced by upward movement of the bolt to the end of the bore hole. The cartridge is ruptured by upward thrust and rotation of the bolt to release the resin components for mixing. A stop device extending through the plug abuts the end of the bolt to prevent axial movement of the plug on the bolt when the bolt is rotated in a preselected direction to mix the resin components before the shell is expanded. Rotation of the bolt continues without expansion of the shell for a period of time to permit formation of a curable resin mixture.

  • Patent number: 4419029
Abstract: A threaded fastener having a self tool movable from an operable position to an out-of-the-way position which includes a threaded shaft, a laterally expanded head having a cavity beneath it surrounding the shaft, holes in either side of the expanded head, a D-ring having its opposite ends in the holes through the sides of the head, and an elastomeric ring such as an O-ring surrounding the threaded shaft and extending partly into the cavity so that when the threaded fastener is screwed into a threaded opening to receive it the O-ring is forced into the cavity when the fastener is tightened providing enough friction to hold the D-ring in its out-of-the-way position. If the object being held with the threaded fastener has a circular cavity having a diameter greater than the diameter of the D-ring, the D-ring, in its out-of-the-way position, will also lie in that recess where it will not interfere with the use of the object being held with the threaded fastener.

  • Patent number: 4416564
Abstract: A hub and web assembly such as for a clutch plate or pulley half in which the outer component comprises a sleeve with a web and the inner component a hub. The inturned terminal end of the sleeve bears axially against a transverse shoulder to positively determine the relative axial position of the components. Also, a bead formed from the inner component is swaged against the opposite side of the inturned terminal end. The length of the serrations on the sleeve is shorter than the total length thereof. A cylindrical bearing surface on the end of the sleeve adjacent the actual web bears tightly against a corresponding cylindrical bearing surface on the hub remote from the transverse shoulder. This arrangement permits limited torsion of the web without loosening the mating serrations on the components.

  • Patent number: 4408938
Abstract: An expansion sleeve for attaching objects to a relatively thin panel comprises a hollow headed bolt threaded externally for its full length and threaded internally at an end portion remote from the head. The unthreaded internal portion of the bolt has an inwardly projecting apertured annular shoulder into which a drift pin may be driven to expand the sleeve on the interior side of a panel to which the sleeve is to be attached. A jamb nut pulls the expanded sleeve portion firmly against the inside of the panel member and thereafter a threaded rod is threaded into the interior threads of the sleeve so that a nut on the threaded rod may be tightened against the sleeve head. This draws the inner end of the sleeve toward the panel member to increase the pressure of the expanded sleeve portion against the panel. An object to be attached to the panel is then connected to the protruding end of the threaded rod.
