  • Patent number: 4380413
Abstract: A plastic load-distributive washer for use with compressible materials. An axial projection has a laterally extending external flange and an internal throughbore. A portion of the throughbore has a lateral dimension exceeding the maximum lateral dimension of a fastener head with which it is used and an axial length which is at least several times the height of the fastener head. The washer is free to float with the compressible material subject to loading while the fastener remains unmoved. The washer may also be provided with a flexible snap ring to limit the amount of relative movement and a plurality of one-way fingers which cooperate with projections on the head to restrict relative rotational movement between the washer and fastener in the removal direction.

  • Patent number: 4377359
Abstract: A nut device permitting securement of and to thin panel members. An axially extending, internally threaded shank has two laterally extending flanges interconnected to one end, the flanges being bent downward. Two beam members extend laterally from the shank in a direction which is generally perpendicular to the flanges, the ends of the beam members being bent upwardly toward the flanges. The nut is inserted in a slot in the panel by positioning the beam members parallel to the slot, pushing downwardly on the beam members to flex the flanges so that the beam members may be rotated clockwise beneath the panel. The flanges and beam members cooperate to frictionally clamp the panel and resist lateral and rotational displacement relative to the panel. A specially configured tool is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4377350
Abstract: A cylindrical pivot for a multiblade damper assembly having at least three pivotally mounted blades is provided in which the blades are interlinked by connecting rods pivoted to brackets which are secured to each of the blades. Each bracket is formed with a pair of parallel extension arms which extend beyond an end of the blades, and these arms have opposed openings for receiving a cylindrical pivot at their outer ends. A cylindrical pivot is rotatably mounted in these opposed openings, each pivot having a threaded axial bore at both ends thereof and a cross hole extending therethrough. At least two of these pivots are axially joined together by means of a threaded rod which is preferably constituted by a studded connector having a centrally positioned flange which serves to insure that both pivots are adequately threaded on, and it also serves as a stop when the pivot between the arms of the bracket carries no connecting rod.

  • Patent number: 4373827
Abstract: An arrangement for the rigid connection of a drive or driven shaft with a coding disk of an angle coding device. Arranged at the drive shaft is a one-piece compensation ring comprising a first flange for receiving and attachment of a coding disk, a second flange for securing such compensation ring to the drive shaft, and a sleeve element interconnecting the two flanges. The first flange and the sleeve element are divided into segment portions or segments by slits distributed on the periphery, whereby there are absorbed most of the radially acting forces which are caused mainly by the different coefficients of expansion of the relevant materials. The arrangement is particularly suitable for a coding disk which is rigidly connected for rotation to the drive or driven shaft and which is operatively associated with an angle coding device for the reading of the elevation or azimuth alignment movement of an observation periscope.

  • Patent number: 4370074
Abstract: A fan assembly for vehicles, which includes a circular boss portion integrally provided with a plurality of inwardly-extending stress-distributing projections adapted to be connected to a viscous fluid coupling device by a plurality of plate springs, each plate spring being fixedly attached to its respective stress-distributing projection by a bushing. The stress-distributing projections are formed with sockets into which protrusions on the plate springs are fixedly received. The related sockets and protrusions serve to absorb vibrations in the fan assembly and forces caused by deformation of the plate spring, and thus keep the connection between the bushing and the stress-distributing projections from loosening.
