  • Patent number: 4499678
Abstract: A toy or novelty item for selectively concealing or displaying advertisements, messages, slogans, logos, or artwork printed on a ribbon. The ribbon is rolled about a reel which is concealed in a compartment such as the head or body of a doll. The ribbon extends outward from an opening in the compartment. A string which is wound about the reel in the opposite sense to that of the ribbon extends outward from the compartment through another opening. If the ribbon is pulled outward to display the printed material, the string winds on the reel. On the other hand, if the string is pulled outward, the ribbon winds on the reel, thus concealing the printed material.

  • Patent number: 4498256
Abstract: An item input device for a data processing system wherein plurality of flexible page sheets with input information provided thereon overlap the circumference of a rotating shaft in the device main unit and the fixed ends of the sheets are separated by a constant space. The desired page sheets are selected through rotation of the rotating shaft in the winding direction and the reverse direction of the page sheets, thereby guiding the page sheets to the display location. The page sheets overlap each other such that the page sheet unit has the page sheet ends bound thereto separated by a constant space thus the page sheet unit is formed separately from the rotating shaft. The page sheet unit is taken up to the rotating shaft in the page selection ready condition by rotation in the winding direction, and the page sheet unit taken up is released from the rotating shaft by rotation in the reverse direction. Moreover, a clamping member for holding the winding condition of the page sheets is provided.

  • Patent number: 4497127
Abstract: A photographic slide sorting and handling device for retaining a plurality of slides to be viewed and sorted upon a translucent surface with a source of illumination below the surface. A plurality of channel-shaped support members is affixed to the support surface in parallel spaced disposition. Each support member includes a respective slot and resting surface spaced above the slot. The slot of each support member is adapted for receipt therein of an edge of a photographic slide with the opposite edge of the slide engaged against the resting surface of a next adjacent support member. The slides are retained between adjacent support members so as to permit them to be slipped in and out of the slots and freely moved along the support members during sorting of the slides but prevented from falling out of the slots if the sorter is jostled.

  • Patent number: 4490932
Abstract: An exhibiting device in the form of a cabinet having a base, side walls and a top wall extending across the side walls thereof above the base, the side walls thus forming compartments between the top wall and the base with open fronts for the compartment. Rotors are centrally and vertically disposed in the compartments and have at one end a conic termination for the rotor in the base and engage supporting means in the base receiving the conic termination, the rotors having at the other end a drive termination and a supporting member engaging the top wall. A panel configured as a regular polygon and constructed of rigid material is supported proximate the drive means on the rotor. A hanger is disposed centrally along each side of the polygon for hanging displaying panel members or advertising elements and located in such relationship that the displaying panel members occupy different planes spaced longitudinally of the rotor. A hinged convex curved member overlies the top wall.

  • Patent number: 4489514
Abstract: A sign having several movable panels with the panels each consisting of parallel strips interleaved with the strips of the other panels. The strips of one panel present a composite display when in view. A panel drive mechanism includes an endless motor driven member from which an arm projects and successively engages panel carried abutments located at points along the path of arm travel for panel positioning. Step-like guideways for the arm include inclined segments which divert the arm to cause the arm to disengage a panel abutment to terminate panel movement. Each sign panel is formed with overlapped strips which upon incorporation into a sign forms rows of interleaved panel strips. The composite display of each panel is presented in succession upon retraction of an overlying panel's strips back into a stored row of strips and again upon drawing of the panel strips to be viewed outwardly from their row positions.

  • Patent number: 4488366
Abstract: A calender structure includes linking apparatus for displaying, in a linked and continuing fashion, time sequences shown on separate pages thereof. The individual pages are provided with specific hinging structures to permit simultaneous viewing of the last portion of one month and the first portion of a next month, for example, so that a continuing display is provided for linked time sequences notwithstanding the fact that such sequences are provided on separate pages. A single hinging operation results in the continuing display, thus avoiding the necessity for repeatedly turning between two calander pages at periods approaching an end of the month.

  • Patent number: 4484402
Abstract: A perpetual calendar possessing the ability to display any date, past, present or future, in a finite range, and the day of the week for that particular date without prior knowledge or calculation, includes individually gear driven indicia belts for composing month and year dates and another indicia belt which is simultaneously gear driven with the movement of any one of the aforesaid indicia belts. A single drive gear for the aforesaid individually gear driven indicia belts is shiftable into driving engagement with a selected indicia belt by linear movement of a sliding indicator on the top panel of the calendar housing. The drive shaft for the single shiftable drive gear is turned by an external knob on one side of the calendar housing.

  • Patent number: 4475296
Abstract: A fillet for a use in holding a transparent sheet of glass or plastic spaced from artwork mounted in a picture frame. The fillet has a one-piece construction and is provided with a recess and a spacer portion. Preferably, the fillet has a generally S-shaped body defining two recesses of different widths with each recess being defined by an end wall and an intermediate wall, the intermediate wall being common to the two end walls. Each end wall is angled relative to the intermediate wall and the material of the fillet is resilient so that the end walls can yield away from the intermediate wall to accommodate glass or plastic sheets whose thicknesses are greater than the minimum widths of the recesses. The S-shaped fillet is reversible so that, in one position, it can receive a plastic glass sheet of a relatively small thickness in one of the recesses and, in the other position it can receive a glass or plastic sheet of relatively large thickness in the other recess.

  • Patent number: 4475297
Abstract: Novelty ornamentation such as for a cover in the form of a non-disposable sleeve for a disposable cigarette lighter of conventional design is disclosed. A novelty appearing and disappearing image presenting assembly is situated on one side of the sleeve and includes a filmstrip enclosed in a housing. The filmstrip has opaque portion having a desired color providing a permanent portion of the image and a translucent portion providing the appearing and disappearing portion of the image. A dark background is permanently situated behind the translucent portion of the filmstrip and a light colored shield is selectively positionable behind the translucent portion in front of the dark background. The shield is movable by gravity to and from a position behind the translucent portion of the image on the filmstrip, thereby to cause it to appear when the shield is moved behind and to disappear when the shield is moved away.

  • Patent number: 4472894
Abstract: A yearly calendar comprises a board (10) having an array of sections, one for each day of the year, each section having a hole (20) which contains a paper roll (24) printed with a message appropriate or useful for the respective day, such as a fortune, horoscope, riddle, anecdote, quotation, aphorism, etc. The paper rolls are retained by paper overlays (18, 22) on both sides of the board. A user of the calendar punches out each day's paper roll, perferably on the morning of such day. The paper rolls fall down a passageway (16) at the back of the board to a tray (34, 36) under the board, whereupon it is unrolled and read by such user. The punched-out sections of the board provide a useful graphic indication of elapsed days of the year.
