  • Patent number: 4587753
Abstract: A mechanism is disclosed that is secured in a frame for holding the indicia forming material and is used to cover a housing that includes a light source which may be controlled through a photoelectric cell. The sheets making up the indicia are formed in such a manner that the characters are all created in a stylized "8" digital format with a centrally located "1" superimposed down the middle of the "8". The "8" characters with the "1" superimposed are diestampted in a separate sheet so that it alone may be changed to change the indicia to be displayed. The circuit is designed to produce a flashing light under normal conditions to attract an observer. When an emergency is created such as detected by a smoke detector, a red light flasher is seen giving an additional warning at the front of a house.

  • Patent number: 4583311
Abstract: A pair of horizontally-spaced vertically upright facing channel members are fixably mounted to an underlying horizontal support. An elongated planar base member has longitudinally spaced holes receiving the vertically upright facing channel members and rests on the horizontal support. Brackets affixed to the inside faces of the channel members mount an elongated planar cap member may be identical to and the mirror image of the planar base member at a vertically spaced position above the base member, being slidably lowered on the channel members, through the longitudinally spaced holes therein. A first endless loop sign is positioned in an axially upright position with its edges in vertical grooves near the peripheries of the base and cap members and sandwiched therebetween to form a first visual display.

  • Patent number: 4578887
Abstract: Improved apparatus is provided for examining large quantities of documents and, particularly, x-rays, positioned in front of a viewing station. The present invention utilizes an elongate sheet of plastic which can be power controlled to move in a generally horizontal direction across the viewing station. In the area of the viewing station, the plastic sheet is tilted backward, so that gravity assists in retaining the documents on the plastic sheet. Novel means are provided for retaining the film on the plastic sheet between the idler rollers and drums. Improved methods are disclosed herein for viewing large quantities of documents such as x-rays.

  • Patent number: 4577428
Abstract: A device for displaying the names of items and their prices uses a generally planar panel that has pairs of parallel tracks on its rear side and parallel guide channels on its front side. There is an elongated aperture in the panel between each pair of tracks and guide channels. Strips bearing printed item names and other information are inserted in the channels. The strips have variable numbers of either apertured or transparent windows aligned with the aperture. A tape carrier for tapes bearing indicia such as numerals for composing prices that are displayed through the windows is engageable with the rear tracks by means of its inherent flexure property. Divider members engage the carrier with a snap action and they create channels in conjunction with the carrier surface for guiding and restraining the edges of the tapes against all but longitudinal movements.

  • Patent number: 4574805
Abstract: The instrument for skin surgery of the present invention comprises forceps having a pair of oppositely positioned legs. One of the legs has a hook positioned adjacent its distal end and the other of the legs has an opening therein for receiving the hook so that the two legs of the forceps may be brought together into facing engagement. The method of the present invention comprises gripping the skin adjacent the edge of an incision between the two leg members with the hook retentively engaging the subcutaneous tissue inside the wound, and with the distal end of the other leg member engaging the outer surface of the exterior skin layer. The skin is then everted adjacent the incision and a surgical needle is inserted into the subcutaneous tissue until the point of the needle has passed through a portion of the subcutaneous tissue and has exited therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4567681
Abstract: The present invention provides, without the drawbacks accompanied by the use of hot melt adhesives, an attractive, easily recycled labelled container, the label, on its underside that is adjacent the container when applied, being provided with a finite area on its leading edge and a finite area on its trailing edge, by applying thereto a solvent for the polymer in each of the finite areas, the finite areas comprising a viscous tacky solution of the polymer in the solvent, the solidifying solution being sufficient to tack and bond the label to container during wrapping. After the label is wrapped around the container, the bond between the container and label becomes weaker as the solidifying solution hardens so that later the label can be easily and cleanly stripped from the container for recycling.

  • Patent number: 4565022
Abstract: A method and apparatus for animating illuminated signs and displays comprises sequentially illuminating with at least one source of radiant energy (51) of a particular wavelength range at least two planar scenes (53), (54) or three-dimensional objects (101), (102) visibly responsive to radiant energy of the particular wavelength range used. Means (55) are provided for shielding a non-selected planar scene or object from illumination during the time a selected planar scene or object is illuminated. In the preferred embodiment, invisible ultraviolet illumination is used to cause a plurality of scene-views to fluoresce visibly in a timed sequence which produces a visual sensation of apparent motion from one scene-view to another of an object depicted by the scene-views. Subjective brightness of scene-views may be enhanced by modulating the illumination of a scene at a perceptibly low frequency.

  • Patent number: 4565023
Abstract: Indicia display means comprising an indicia-bearing member having one or more sets of visible indicia located thereon in predetermined locations, and a mask member arranged to overlay the indicia-bearing member, the mask member having perforations or openings at predetermined locations to expose selected ones of said visible indicia. The mask member may be provided with a mirror image set of said indicia on the reverse side of the mask member to assist in locating the site of said openings or perforations in the mask member. The location of the indicia, the color, and/or the color of the background and/or the color of the mask areas may be used to convey information, in addition to the values assigned to the indicia themselves.

  • Patent number: 4561202
Abstract: An ornament has a frame. There is a central fixed disc attached to the frame and a picture of the central fixed disc. An annulus surrounds the central fixed disc and is rotatably mounted in the frame. A magnet is positioned in the annulus. Weighted figures are mounted on the rotatable annulus. The figures bear a relationship to the picture on the central fixed disc. A magnet can rotate the annulus by magnetic effect on the magnet in the annulus so that the weighted figures rise and fall as the annulus rotates to change the displayed scene.

  • Patent number: 4561200
Abstract: A device for displaying circular objects such as plates, pictures, mirrors and the like on a wall or other supporting structure. A frame formed with a circular-shaped central opening has a plurality of spaced lugs extending outwardly from its back surface. An annular shaped retainer ring is formed with a plurality of circumferentially spaced ramps which are engageable with the frame lugs for clamping the circular object against the back surface of the frame for visual display of the object through the frame opening. The ramps extend in an angular direction along the side of the retainer ring and provide axial movement of the retainer ring towards the frame when slidably engaged with the lugs to apply a clamping force against the circular object and to permit the mounting of objects of varying thickness on the display device. The ramps are provided with a series of ratchet teeth for locking the retainer ring in an adjustable object clamping position.
