    Abstract: A plasticizing unit is provided for palsticizing material which is subsequently supplied to an injection molding press. The unit includes a screw disposed in a barrel which has an inlet, an outlet, a reservoir zone portion, and a plasticizing zone portion. The plasticizing zone portion of the barrel and the screw each have a continuous helical groove of opposite hand as the other groove and the grooves transfer material therebetween to effect plasticizing of the material. The reservoir zone portion of the barrel receives a shot volume of material which has been plasticized during passage through the helical grooves of the barrel and the screw. A volume displacement member which is axially movably disposed in a bore of the screw is movable within the reservoir zone portion to selectively control the shot volume of plasticized material received in the reservoir zone portion.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a collapsible plug which is insertable into the interior section of an appliance cabinet and expandable therein to simultaneously extend the plurality of panels to provide lateral shoring support to each of the interior surfaces of the cabinet so as to prevent bulging thereof during the injection and curing of insulating foam in the cavity between the interior surfaces and external surfaces of the cabinet, and collapsible so that the plug can be inserted into and removed from the cabinet interior without contacting the interior surfaces during insertion nor removal. Particularly, the disclosed design allows different thicknesses of tooling panels having surfaces complementary to the interior surface of the cabinet to be employed without concern for contact between adjacent panels upon their retraction due to the additional thickness.

    Abstract: Apparatus for the production and proper calibration of improved flexible hoses made by a soft thermoplastic material reinforced with a continuous spiral of rigid thermoplastic material. During their production the hoses do not rotate but are produced linearly and in their internal surface no longitudinal grooves are engraved. The melted coaxial materials are discharged through a rotating mechanism to a calibration unit which rotates with it and bears peripherally special inclined rollers on which is transmitted, via an epicyclic gearing system, a controlled rotation opposite to the above direction. On this calibration unit the plastic hose is formed successively, advancing linearly forward.

    Abstract: An adjustable sealing system for use in a molding apparatus is disclosed. The molding apparatus is used for applying a coating of polymeric material to the surface of a shell. The molding apparatus includes a molding surface and a seal groove adapted for retaining a seal. The molding apparatus is capable of receiving a shell and forming a molding cavity between a surface of a shell and the molding surface. The seal establishes sealed contact between the shell and the molding surface when the molding apparatus is closed. The adjustable sealing system includes a seal for insertion and retention in a seal groove of the molding apparatus, so that a portion of the seal extends from the seal groove to a selected height when the molding apparatus is open. A seal height adjustment means is disposed under the seal in the seal groove. The seal height adjustment means is capable of adjusting the height of the seal above the seal groove to correspond to a particular contour of a shell being molded.

    Abstract: A film forming composition including a film forming substance having amphiphilic molecules and being dispersed in a gel-like carrier having a non-liquid state below about 20.degree. C. The carrier stabilizes the film forming substance, and inhibits diffusion of moisture and oxygen into the composition. This minimizes deterioration of the film forming substance, and also minimizes undesirable formation of agglomerations of such substance. When the composition is applied to a surface, an ultra thin substantially continuous film of substantially uniform thickness forms spontaneously and attaches to the surface. The excess composition is then washed away.

In a region directly below the raw-material discharge and over a portion of the parabolic paths, a ball-collecting unit, for example a disk grate, is provided to intercept the balls while allowing the particles to pass without altering their classification. Fine particles of the parabolic paths beyond the ball catcher pass directly onto the belt.

    Abstract: A retractable mold protrusion assembly for thermoforming parts is disclosed which is both self-contained and self-operating. The assembly includes a housing, a protrusion molding member moveably mounted to the housing, and an offset mounted spring. The protrusion molding member is movable with respect to the housing between a locked configuration and a pivoting configuration. When in its locked configuration, the protrusion molding member is securely held in a protruding position in which it protrudes away from the housing. In this position, a piece may be molded about the protrusion molding member to form a desired protrusion in the piece being formed. After molding has been completed, the removal of the molded piece slides the protrusion molding member into a second pivoting configuration, in which the protrusion molding member is pivotable into the housing to allow the molded piece to be completely removed.
