  • Patent number: 4964792
Abstract: An upper metal mold clamp device in a tire vulcanizing machine of the type that an upper metal mold is detachably fixed to a bolster by rotating clamp rods vertically penetrating through the bolster and provided with clamp claws at their bottom ends, is improved. Drive units rotate the respective clamp rods independently of rotation of the other clamp rods. Nuts are mounted onto the bolster plate in an unrotatable but vertically movable manner, and threadedly engaged with male screws at the upper portions of the clamp rods. Hollow spaces for accommodating the clamp claws are formed around the clamp rods on the bottom surface of an upper heat plate held in contact with the upper metal mold.

  • Patent number: 4963392
Abstract: A fiber spray system for depositing fibers onto a substrate or article comprises a vibrating feeder bowl having an opening in its sidewall covered by a grid or screen through which fibers loaded into the feeder bowl are discharged therefrom into the fiber collector. A delivery hose is connected between the fiber collector and a pump which is operative to create a negative pressure within the fiber collector to draw fibers through the grid of the feeder bowl, out of the feeder bowl into the fiber collector and to entrain the collected fibers within a stream of air. The air-entrained fibers are drawn through the delivery hose to the pump, and in the course of passage therethrough the velocity of the fibers is reduced so that they collect or accumulate within an area in the delivery hose upstream from the pump. The pump uniformly withdraws fibers from the area where they accumulate and discharges the fibers directly into a spray gun connected to the pump for deposition onto a substrate.

  • Patent number: 4958589
Abstract: A continuous melt-plating apparatus has a guide roller provided above the sink roller. The guide roller is capable of curving into a configuration arbitrarily varied in the widthwise direction of the strip, in such a manner that the waving and curving of the steel strip, which is very variable depending on the thickness, the width and the material of the steel strip, changes of the sink roller, the plating speed, and the thickness of the plating, can be coped with precisely in accordance therewith. A detector for detecting the degree of flatness of the steel strip in the widthwise direction is provided downstream of the gas wiping nozzle, and the curving of the guide roller is controlled through a feedback control for adjusting the amount of variation of the guide roller's pushing, so that the flatness can be precisely maintained right at the portion corresponding to the gas wiping nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4957676
Abstract: Detaching a cured tire from mold sections of a tire mold during opening of the mold by communicating air under pressure into the space between the mold sections and confining the air in this space with a sleeve member supported on the upper mold section and slidably urged into sealing engagement with the lower mold section. Air under pressure is then communicated from the space between the mold sections to the spaces between the cured tire surface and the molding surfaces of the upper and lower mold sections to detach the tire. Sealing rings on the sleeve and on the upper mold section prevent leakage of the air under pressure from the space between the mold section. Spring means between the upper mold section and the sleeve member provide extension of the sleeve member into sealing engagement with the lower mold section.

  • Patent number: 4955799
Abstract: A metal mold centering and clamping device in a tire vulcanizing machine has hydraulic cylinders each having a piston rod equipped with a non-directional bearing at its top portion. The cylinders are mounted on a vulcanizing machine frame close to an outer circumference of a metal mold. An outside portion of a centering member is connected to the vulcanizing machine frame via parallel links to form a parallel linkage, and a bottom portion of the same centering member is connected to the piston rod via a link. On the inside of the centering member and on the outer circumference of a lower metal mold are respectively formed centering surfaces opposed to each other. In addition, at an upper portion of the inside surface of the centering member is formed a clamp claw adapted to be engaged with the edge of the lower metal mold.

  • Patent number: 4954062
Abstract: An automated casting apparatus for use in slip casting is described. A rotatable table assembly is provided for retention of a plurality of plaster molds therein. The table assembly is provided with a clamp member to secure the molds in their relative positions within the table assembly to prevent slippage during rotation. The clamp is controlled by a rotational motor and will apply a predetermined amount of pressure on each of the molds by use of a load detector which will shut down the motor once the predetermined pressure has been attained. Once the molds are securely positioned within the table assembly, the assembly is rotated 90.degree. to its "fill" position where the automatic filler can sequentially fill each of the molds with liquid slurry or slip to a predetermined level whereupon the filled molds are allowed to sit in position for a predetermined setup time which establishes the wall thickness of the castings. The table assembly is then rotated 180.degree.; pouring the excess slip from the molds.

  • Patent number: 4954066
Abstract: A chain guide structure for guiding a conveyor chain through a thermoforming machine to protect the chain from plastic chips and other debris. The chain guide includes a support rail structure for supporting an upper run of conveyor chain, and a spring steel cover sheet overlying a track defined by the support rail and in close proximity with the chain to serve as a cover and thereby protect the chain from contamination from foreign material. Additionally, the chain includes a series of spikes to penetrate a plastic sheet and thereby carry it through the machine, wherein the chain guide structure has a width sufficient to permit lateral outward expansion of the plastic sheet as it is heated in the thermoforming machine. An upwardly inclined portion of the guide structure provides a cooling section to permit the plastic sheet to cool as it is carried away from a forming section of the machine.

  • Patent number: 4953495
Abstract: A system for coating articles by the use of electrostatic attraction of ionized particles which are subsequently cured. The system includes a pair of carriers for jointly carrying each article through the system, from application of the particles to the article through curing of the particles on the article. Each carrier is capable of carrying the article independently of the other. After deposition of the particles on the article the article and the carriers are conveyed through a cleaning station wherein one of the carriers is moved out of carrying engagement with the article and cleaned while the article supported by the other carrier. The other carrier is then moved out of supporting engagement with the article and cleaned while the article is supported by the first carrier.
