  • Patent number: 6533507
Abstract: A spindle tension testing kit designed to allow mill operators to quickly and easily determine the gripping or holding force of the coupler and drawbar assembly on a spindle against the tool holder used with a milling or other machine using this method of tool retention. In one embodiment, the kit includes a tool holder, an upper frame member, a transfer rod, a clevis member, and a modified pull stud, and a hydraulic piston. The upper frame member threadingly connects to the transfer rod that is longitudinally extended into the central bore formed in the tool holder. The frame member includes a central opening with a lower horizontal member designed to receive a clevis member. The clevis member is a U-shaped member disposed in an inverted, longitudinally aligned position over the lower horizontal member on the frame member so that its legs are adjacent to the top surface of the tool holder when assembled.

  • Patent number: 6523245
Abstract: An automated drill and rivet machine is provided for riveting a work piece. The machine is moveable with respect to the work piece, and sensors locate sequential rivet sites along the work piece. A control system directs the movement and operation of the machine at sequential rivet sites for drilling and mashing. A method for automatically fastening components is provided including the steps of indexing an automated drill and rivet machine at a first work site and placing the machine in a first mode in which the machine to repeatedly performs the steps of drilling, storing the work site location, sensing a next work site, and moving the machine to the next work site. The operator then inserts a fastener at the previous drilling work sites and places the machine in a second mode in which the machine repeatedly performs the steps of returning to a previous work site and mashing the rivets at the previous work site.

  • Patent number: 6519824
Abstract: A wiring board manufacturing system, which is an electric wiring forming system, utilizes a magnesium alloy as a conductive metal for wiring pattern forming, and mixes and heats the magnesium alloy chips thereof in a cylinder (feeding unit) with a built-in screw, melting same into an alloy slurry of a thixotropic state. The alloy slurry thereof is discharged onto a board. The board is mounted on a work stage of a stage unit, which is driven and controlled in accordance with wiring pattern data inputted by a CAD or the like, and a wiring pattern is formed on the board with the discharged alloy. According to this system, it is possible to provide an electric wiring forming system, which does away with the effects on the environment resulting from waste liquid at manufacturing, enables manufacturing time to be shortened, and moreover, uses an inexpensive metallic material for forming a wiring pattern.

  • Patent number: 6507984
Abstract: A detailing tool for processing electronic component substrate includes a supporting frame, a substrate carrier movable on the supporting frame to receive and secure the substrate during processing by the tool, and a pair of cutter assembly attached to said supporting frame for removing tails on said substrate. The cutter assemblies self-align “to” the substrate during initial substrate loading in a processing area of the tool. Each cutter assembly includes a pair of spaced, translatable and opposed cutters that simultaneously move towards each another while removing the tails from the corners of the substrate that remains stationary. The pair of cutter assemblies are symmetrically attached to the supporting frame with respect to an axis for indexing the substrate. Thus, the invention provides a tool for cutting tails from opposite corners on the substrate edge automatically and simultaneously during processing.

  • Patent number: 6502294
Abstract: A transfer line apparatus for performing multiple machining operations on each of a plurality of workpieces in a transfer line. The apparatus includes a plurality of different kinds of machining units disposed at respective machining stations along a transfer path. A workpiece transporter moves workpieces along the transfer path to position each of the workpieces at each of the machining stations and allow each of the machining units to machine each of the workpieces as the workpieces move along the transfer path. A controller connected to the machining units responds to an inspection command by causing all machining units downstream from a designated machining unit along the transfer path to allow a workpiece selected for inspection to pass by without being machined by the downstream units. This allows the workpiece to be inspected in a form that the remaining machining units have not altered.

  • Patent number: 6499921
Abstract: A powered rotary drive unit for dressing electrodes that has two handles. The operator places the cutters between the electrodes and applies clamping pressure. The operator then activates the motor to dress the electrodes. The cutter is designed to cut the electrodes to the proper shape so that the tips cannot be over-dressed. Moreover, the two handles insure that the cutters remain level during the entire dressing operation. Finally, the cutters are ground to a specific angle that improves the performance of the welder by flattening the tips to an optimum angle.
