  • Patent number: 6394718
Abstract: The invention relates to the generation of periodic profiles on at least approximately rotationally symmetrical blanks, such as, for example, the generation of shaft-hub connection profiles such as circular wedge profiles, splined shaft profiles, etc., on shaft or hub blanks. To this end, the use of generating skiving is proposed, which permits the production of any desired periodic profiles on rotationally symmetrical blanks and is far superior to rival processes with regard to the productive machining time.

  • Patent number: 6390740
Abstract: A method for forming non-circular dimples in a spherical surface is characterized by the use of a pantograph to repeatedly translate a master dimple configuration into the spherical surface. A drill bit is drilled into a portion of the spherical surface to a first depth. The drill bit is displaced relative to the surface by the pantograph along a given path without altering the axial orientation of the bit in order to form a non-circular dimple in the surface. The bit is removed from the surface and the process is repeated across other portions of the surface to form identical dimples therein.

  • Patent number: 6390741
Abstract: A safety guard assembly is adapted to be conveniently moved into position between a work area and an operator station. The safety guard is characterized by a unitary transparent polymer having a planar portion and ribs that impart to the planar portion rigidity against longitudinal bending and transverse flexing. Brackets are attached to opposite sides of the guard and an associated handle and one end of an associated universal support arm are connected to each bracket. The opposite end of each universal support arm is mounted remote from the work area. The handles and universal support arms enable the guard to be quickly and conveniently moved by an operator between positions adjacent to and remote from the work area. • Patent number: 6381831
Abstract: A feeding pin 146 is downwards inserted into an insertion hole h formed in a direction in which the hoop T is fed so that the feeding pin 146 is moved in the feeding direction. The feeding pin 146 is completely caught by the hoop T to restrain the hoop T in the feeding direction. Thus, overrunning of the hoop T can completely be prevented. Thus, the hoop T can be stopped at a predetermined position. Moreover, cutting of the hoop T and separation of the terminal by cutting can accurately be performed. A hoop holding pin 151 is downwards inserted into the insertion hole h formed at a position different from a position at which the feeding pin 146 is inserted prior to insertion and removal of the feeding pin 146. Thus, further accurate feeding of the hoop T can be performed and, therefore, accurate cutting of the hoop T and separation of the terminal by cutting can be performed.

  • Patent number: 6382888
Abstract: A vibration dampened spindle and tool holder assembly for a rotary cutting machine. The assembly includes a spindle and a tool holder retained therewith. The tool holder has an interfacing ledge with a top surface for abutment with a distal spindle surface, and a continuous channel disposed in a proximal portion of the top surface. A resilient dampening member, having a rectangular or a circular cross sectional configuration, resides in the channel for compressed abutment with the spindle surface. Because the dampening member is situated within the channel, the interfacing placement of the spindle surface and tool holder top surface meet as the dampening member is enshrouded in the channel by these abutting surfaces and thereby protected from contaminant entry during dampening action.

  • Patent number: 6378184
Abstract: The invention provides a machine and methods for automated manufacture of tapered adjustable ducts, and particularly tapered adjustable take offs. A tube of material is cut into gores of predetermined configuration, coupling beads are formed in the gores and the gores are adjustably interconnected to one another to form the finished take off duct in an automated fashion. The apparatus for forming an adjustable duct member may include a housing including at least one work station formed therein. A die associated with the work station is selectively positioned at a predetermined location relative to a work piece positioned in association with the work station. A cutting and forming assembly associated with the work station cooperates with the die to selectively cut the work piece to form first and second members and to form a coupling bead in the first and second members which cooperate to reconnect the first and second members together at a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 6374472
Abstract: To improve a metal-cutting process for machining cylindrical contours, especially eccentric cylindrical contours on a workpiece mounted to rotate about a longitudinal axis, especially with eccentric crankshaft bearings using a lathe tool, producing a finished contour that either has end measures of satisfactory surface quality or has oversize for finish machining such as grinding or dressing, so that while maintaining or enhancing surface quality and maintaining or enhancing dimensional accuracy, machining times are reduced and overall economic efficiency is raised, the invention proposes that the tools tipped with cutting inserts, especially throw-away cutting inserts, are engaged successively or even simultaneously and that at least one part of the cutting inserts is guided in relation to the workpiece at an effective cutting angle (&ggr;f) between −5° and +5° and/or a positive tool back wedge angle (&ggr;p).

  • Patent number: 6375398
Abstract: A toolholder assembly is disclosed having an elongated spindle adapted to be rotatably driven about a longitudinal axis. The spindle also includes a longitudinally extending bore open at one end. A chuck has a collet at one end for holding a tool and an elongated shank at its other end adapted for insertion into the spindle bore. A ball lock assembly releasably coaxially secures the chuck to the spindle upon insertion of the chuck shank into the spindle bore to an operable position. The chuck also includes a conical surface at the free end of the shank. This free end of the shank engages a spring loaded piston positioned at the innermost end of the spindle bore when the chuck is inserted into the spindle to its operable position and this piston includes a conical surface complementary to the conical surface on the shank. The cooperation between the ball lock assembly and the piston coaxially and securely, but releasably, secures the chuck to the spindle.

  • Patent number: 6370759
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for stripping insulation from a wire that comprises a cutter mechanism and a cutter holder for carrying the cutter mechanism. The cutter mechanism has opposite cutting edges that are movable relatively toward and away from one another other perpendicular to the length of the wire. The cutter holder is reciprocally movable along the length of said wire and revolvable about an axis that passes through the wire. The opposite cutting edges move toward to each other to cut into an insulation portion of the wire, followed by which the cutter holder revolves about said axis and moves away from an end of the wire to remove the insulation from the wire.
