Patent number: 4601516Abstract: An article of furniture for sitting includes a closed frame covered by a flexible cover. The opposite sides of the frame are captured in retainers formed in counterfacing surfaces of upright support members held in spaced relation by spacer members. The opposite sides of the frame are resiliently flexible so that they can be stressed from a natural spacing to a lesser spacing without exceeding the elastic limits of the frame sides. When the frame sides are retained by the support members and those members are connected to the spacer members, the frame sides, usually constrained by a nonextensible band or by the fabric cover, possess appreciable stored energy tending to urge them apart toward their natural spacing so that the frame sides are retained securely by the support members under the weight of an ordinary person.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1984Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Inventor: Gerhart P. Klein

Patent number: 4600254Abstract: A horizontal sliding door for a housing such as a cabinet. An axle rotatably mounted at the rear of the door projects into two identical tracks one at each side of the housing. Each track has a lower toothed rack and an upper stop surface facing the rack. A pinion slideably and non-rotatably mounted on each end of the axle engages the rack and is held there by an idler wheel slideably and rotatably mounted beside each pinion. A spacer sleeve near one end of the axle is removable, allowing one pinion and idler wheel to be slid inwardly, allowing removal of the door by passing that one end of the axle through a slot in one end of the track.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1983Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: Steelcase Canada Ltd.Inventor: Robert T. Patent number: 4598442Abstract: A clamping device comprises a holder in which an actuation arm is movable in a longitudinal directions. A fixed clamping jaw is carried by the holder and a movable clamping jaw is arranged within the holder opposite to the fixed clamping jaw and it is supported by at least two longitudinally spaced lever members which have a first pivotal connection to the holder, a second pivotal connection to the movable clamping jaw and a third pivotal connection to the actuator arm. An actuator is connected to the arm to move it backwardly and forwardly for opening and closing the jaws. The pivotal connecting points of the levers are chosen so that the pivotal points are disposed at substantially right angles to each other. The pivot pins are cylindrical hinge pins and the line between the pivotal connection of the lever to the jaw and to the fixed holder makes an angle of 45.degree. to the horizontal so that a larger distance between the points of support is possible.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1984Date of Patent: July 8, 1986Assignee: Willy HabeggerInventor: Otto Luginbuhl
