Abstract: This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for using presence detection in order to switch between power modes of a display device. For instance, the display device may operate in a first power mode by deactivating a display. While operating in the first power mode, the display device may use a sensor to detect a presence of a possible object. The display device may then switch to a second power mode in order to verify that the possible object is an actual object. In response, the display device may switch to a third power mode by at least activating the display and presenting a user interface using the display. The display device may then receive an interaction. In response, the display device may switch to a fourth power mode by at least presenting content.

Abstract: Example methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture (e.g., physical storage media) to detect an operational state (such as an on/off state) of a media device are disclosed herein. Disclosed example apparatus are to monitor for activity on a first bus of an (HDMI) port of the media device. Disclosed example apparatus are also to inject a message with a first address on the first bus in response to detection of no activity on the first bus for at least a threshold duration. Disclosed example apparatus are further to detect the operational state of the media device based on whether a response to the message is received on the first bus.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for fact-checking contemporary and/or live video streams. In one aspect, the disclosed systems and methods may provide fact-checked commentary and annotations to enhance the enjoyment and engagement with the streaming media. In one aspect, the systems and methods nay generate an overlay for the streaming media that includes fact-checked annotations and comments about statements or assertions made during the live streaming media.

Abstract: Systems and methods for delivering multiple media assets for a plurality of users are disclosed herein. A plurality of users proximate to a display device may detected and split into groups based on preference for a specific media asset. Media assets may be generated on a display device in a layout based on the number of users in each group. When a new user enters the proximity of the display device the group membership may be recalculated and based on the new group memberships the display layout may be updated.

Abstract: Provided are a video playing method and apparatus. Wherein the video playing method comprises: performing video-preprocessing on video data to be played and playing the video data obtained after the video-preprocessing by means of a main process of the Web client; in the case that the performance resource of the Web client is insufficient, creating and starting a video service process, wherein the video service process is configured to perform the video-preprocessing on video data to be played and play the video data obtained after the video-preprocessing. In the technical solution according to the embodiment in the present application, the main process of the Web client can play videos without relying on plug-ins. In the case that the performance resource of the Web client is insufficient, the video service process is used to play videos for the smoothness of video playing, which can also play videos without relying on plug-ins.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for detecting a presence of a second user inside an aural range of the video but outside of a visual range of the display device, determining that a profile of the second user indicates a conflict for the second user with respect to the video, in response to determining that the profile of the second user indicates the conflict, and dynamically adjusting a volume of the video so that the second user is outside of an adjusted aural range of the video. The systems and methods may determine that the second user has entered the visual range of the display device, and, in response to determining that the second user has entered the visual range of the video, may alter a visual component of the video.

Abstract: A server includes a relay unit relaying transmission of video data related to a live-stream from a user terminal where the video data is generated to a user terminal where the video data is reproduced, a gift generation unit generating a gift based on a part of the live-stream recorded while the video data is reproduced, and a processing unit performing processing for giving the generated gift to a distributor of the live-stream while the video data is reproduced.

Abstract: According to principles of the disclosure, the level of engagement by a user in watching a program is determined based on data received from a personal computing device that is coupled to the user while they are viewing the audio/video program as it is displayed. The personal computing device contains a number of user biological function sensors which are able to measure and receive one or more biological functions that are personal to the user while they view the audio/video program. The changes in a particular biological function, such as heart rate, breathing, movement and other activities are compared to the type of content in the program being viewed and a correlation carried out in order to determine the level of engagement of the user has with the program.

Abstract: A stream playout and distribution system is provided for disparate live media output stream playout and broadcast distribution. The system generates a new version of a disparate live media output stream manifest based on insertion of a plurality of segments of at least one of a pre-encoded media asset or a live input stream into the disparate live media output stream manifest. Each segment of the plurality of segments corresponds to a different quality level and a different content encryption mode. The plurality of segments corresponds to broadcast content segments encoded in a first encoding format of the new version of the disparate live media output stream manifest. The system converts the broadcast content segments encoded in the first encoding format to a second encoding format in accordance with a broadcasting protocol.

The system identifies a time slot typical for the first subset of users and atypical for the second subset of users based on content item consumption data of the first subset of users and content item consumption data of the second subset of users. In response to determining that a user is consuming a first content item at the identified time slot, the system generates for display a recommendation for a second content item that is scheduled for a different time slot.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed toward systems and methods for providing a live poll with a video presentation. In particular, the systems and methods described herein provide a video stream received from a broadcaster client device to one or more viewer client devices. Additionally, the systems and methods described herein provide a live poll to the one or more viewer client devices together with the video stream. The systems and methods receive poll responses from the one or more viewer client devices, compile poll results based on the received responses, and provide the poll responses to the broadcaster client device and the one or more viewer client devices.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that measure web activity bursts after ad broadcasts that may be sent to multiple persons. One system uses a cookie-less/cookie-optional, anonymous/personal-identification-not-required, method for web-based conversion tracking that will work on broadcast media systems such as television, and could also be applied to measuring spikes from email, radio, and other forms of advertising where an episodic ad event is broadcast to multiple parties, and where responses occur in a batch after the broadcast.

Abstract: A method of modifying playing of media content in a group watch session comprises receiving a command to modify play; determining respective preferences of respective users in the session; and, if it is determined that execution of the command is consistent with the preferences, causing modifying of the playing of at least a portion of the media content based on the received command, e.g., by skipping the portion, jumping to another play position, or rewinding or fast-forwarding through the portion. In this manner, the command is executed, or not executed, based on the preferences of multiple users. The method may include estimating a satisfaction score for the command for the respective users, and comparing the estimated satisfaction scores with a reference score. The portion(s) of the media content for which play is modified may be determined based on the estimated satisfaction scores.

Abstract: A device may receive content data identifying television schedules for content to be provided for viewing in a first geographic location and a second geographic location, and may identify a first available time slot for content in the first geographic location and a second available time slot for content in the second geographic location. The device may identify a first set of content for the first available time slot and a second set of content for the second available time slot, and may assign values to the first and second sets. The device may determine whether the values assigned to the first and second sets satisfy a threshold value, and may cause, when a value of content in the first set fails to satisfy the threshold value, a first client device, in the first geographic location, to obtain replacement content with a value that satisfies the threshold value.
