  • Patent number: 10834466
Abstract: A voice-controlled device monitors content delivered to a user through a non-interactive or unidirectional medium, such as broadcast television or radio. Each time the device recognizes delivered content that includes an advertisement or solicitation, the device records information identifying the content and the time at which the content is delivered. The device also listens for environmental audio cues suggesting that a user has performed a desired action in response to viewing or hearing the recognized content. If the device determines that a user response has occurred within a predetermined duration of time after a corresponding advertisement or solicitation, the device correlates the response with the content.

  • Patent number: 10812839
Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention disclosed herein provide techniques for automatically generating a recorded version of a live video program. A live program extraction application executing on a live program extraction system receives an automation list associated with the live video program from a traffic and automation system and an integration message associated with the live video program from an integration control system. The live program extraction application generates a first data entry that includes a timecode based on at least one of the automation list and the integration message. The live program extraction application stores the first data entry into a data record associated with the live video program. The live program extraction application transmits the data record to a broadcast system. The broadcast system automatically replaces a portion of the recorded version of the live video program based on the timecode included in the first data entry.

  • Patent number: 10798427
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for providing a failover of storage for media content, including media content used for broadcasting in cinema. One embodiment of the invention stores copies of digital cinema packages (“DCPs”) to both a central storage facility as well as a local storage facility. When a server module reading DCPs in central storage module encounters abnormalities, it switches reading operations to the local storage module, at the same frame location from which interruption occurred. The present invention provides a multi-layered storage system for cinema broadcasting of a movie to decrease likelihood of interruptions during a broadcast that may be caused by failure of the central storage facility.

  • Patent number: 10779025
Abstract: Techniques for identifying aired content are described. A first audio sample is received and processed, using a computer processor, to extract an embedded audio watermark. A content identifier identifying a first item of programming content is determined, using the computer processor and based on the audio watermark. A timestamp associated with the first audio sample is also determined based on the audio watermark. An as-aired log is updated based on the content identifier and the timestamp. The computer processor is used to identify that the first item of programming content has aired, based on the as-aired log.

  • Patent number: 10701434
Abstract: A seek content extraction system analyzes frames of video content and identifies locations in the frames where session information is displayed. This session information refers to information that is displayed as part of video content and that describes, for a particular location in the video content, what is currently happening in the video content at that particular location. This session information is extracted from each of multiple frames, and for a given frame the extracted session information is associated with the frame. While the user is seeking forward or backward through the video content, a thumbnail of the frame at a given location in the video content is displayed along with the extracted session information associated with the frame.

  • Patent number: 10701424
Abstract: Systems and methods of managing online streaming content are contemplated in this application. A new data structure is discussed. The new data structure is useful for the organization and delivery of streaming content—especially live content. Systems and methods make it possible for a broadcast manager to determine when advertisements can be played during a live broadcast (e.g., during a time out in a basketball game). Episode containers (the new data structure) include different segments, including both video-segments and advertisement-segments, where segments can be used to broadcast video from different sources. This can be particularly useful for broadcasting of content online where advertisement videos can be hosted elsewhere from where the broadcast content is hosted, allowing users to seamlessly watch a program with advertisements without experiencing interruption when they are transitioned to an advertisement from the broadcast.

  • Patent number: 10694227
Abstract: The video transmission system includes a divided-clip generator for generating first and second clips, a transmission unit for sequentially transmitting the first and second clips, and a display apparatus for displaying the first and second clips. The first clip is generated by dividing video data by a specific time period and by dividing audio data by a specific time period. The second clip is generated after the first clip. The divided-clip generator includes a video output unit and an audio output unit. The video output unit divides the video data by a first time period equal to a multiple of a unit frame time of the video data. The audio output unit divides the audio data by a second time period equal to a multiple of a unit frame time of the audio data. The end of the first time period is before the end of the second time period.

  • Patent number: 10687118
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for allowing responses to offers displayed with digital content. The responses may be provided on a receiver system via a conventional feedback through the same distribution channel through which the content and offer were provided, or through an alternative channel, with data being transmitted from an alternative channel device to a transacting entity. For time-shifted playback, content is identified and time-adapted offers may be provided, taking into account factors such as the content, the time of play back, the date of play back, and so forth. The alternate response channel may be more suitable for time-adapted offer responses then for contemporaneously transmitted offers.

  • Patent number: 10664875
Abstract: An online system provides a feed of content including organic content items and sponsored content items that are positioned relative to each other to maximize user interaction with the feed of content. To reduce latency of providing the feed of content to a user without impairing positioning of organic content items and sponsored content items relative to each other, the online system initially selects a subset of sponsored content items based on characteristics (e.g., bid amounts) of the sponsored content items. Subsequently, the online system applies one or more selection processes to organic content items and to sponsored content items of the subset that accounts for positioning of sponsored content items and organic content items relative to each other within the feed of content. Hence, the online system evaluates the subset of sponsored content items along with organic content items when ordering content within the feed.

  • Patent number: 10659827
Abstract: Provided are methods and systems for controlling data such as content and/or application data transmitted to one or more user devices. One method can comprise receiving a request for first content and generating, in response to the request for the first content, a first transport stream comprising the first content and application data relating to a first application. At least a portion of the first transport stream is transmitted to a recipient device. An interruption in the transmission of the first transport stream is detected and a determination is made that only a first portion of the application data has been transmitted to the recipient device. A second transport stream including second content and a second portion of the application data is generated and transmitted.

  • Patent number: 10645356
Abstract: Visual effects such as bleach bypass, sepia tone conversion, cross processing, custom effects, and many others may be applied to video streams before they are displayed to viewers. In some examples, different visual effects may be applied to the same underlying video content, such as on a viewer-by-viewer basis or at other levels of granularity, thereby allowing certain particular visual effects to be targeted to particular viewers/devices. The visual effects may be applied by one or more of a content provider, a video streaming service, one or more viewers, or by other entities. The visual effects may be applied based at least in part on instructions from the provider, such as one or more tags, for example that may be issued via an interface provided by a video streaming service.

  • Patent number: 10631027
Abstract: A transmitting apparatus generates an audiovisual content item data stream (e.g. transport stream) comprising a plurality of individual audiovisual data streams with audiovisual components for the content item. A generator (301-307) generates a first stream comprising both mandatory audio data and replaceable audio data for the audio representation where the replaceable audio data being data can be replaced by alternative audio data. A combiner (309) includes the resulting stream into the content item data stream. A receiving apparatus includes an extractor (403) which extracts the mandatory audio data from the received stream. A replacer (415) may replace the replaceable audio data by alternative audio data and an output (415) can generate an audio signal from the mandatory and alternative audio data. The approach may specifically provide an improved and more flexible data stream for audiovisual content.
