  • Patent number: 4630528
Abstract: In a vehicle or device a fluid motor is employed to drive rotary members, such as wheels, propellers, tracks. The motor is provided with an arrangement which includes a control means and an axially moveable member. By utilizing the control means, for example, by a flow of fluid, the axially moveable member is used to apply an action, which is not common to the usual operation of fluid motors. The arrangement may be used to arrest the rotor of the motor from rotation when no pressure is in the driving fluid line. It may also be used to control the pitch of propellers with variable pitch arrangements. Also possible is to use the arrangement to automatically obtain an auto-rotation of rotor blades on vertical axes of vertically take off and landing vehicles, when the pressure in the fluid line to the motors for driving the motors drops below a predetermined minimum of pressure.

  • Patent number: 4631000
Abstract: A hydraulic pressure intensifier for boosting normal system pressure in a hydraulic system to a higher level in order to increase the force provided by a pressure-operated actuator. The hydraulic pressure intensifier has a motor-pump unit with a rotatable cylinder block with cylinders defining piston chambers and each having a movable piston therein. A wobbler controls the stroke of the pistons and the motor-pump unit functions as both a pump and a motor by means of porting to said cylinders including a supply pressure port, an intensified pressure port and a return pressure port. The motor-pump unit has normal maximum and minimum speed limits and when operating at different flow rates the speed thereof varies accordingly. In order to maintain the speed of the motor-pump unit within normal limits, the wobbler is adjustable to vary the stroke of the pistons and thereby vary the speed of rotation of the cylinder block for the same rate of fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 4628794
Abstract: A control pintle carries a rotor which rotates around the pintle. The rotor has chambers which can take in and expel fluid. Passages of a reduced cross-sectional area carry the fluid to or from the control pintle and to or from the chambers. The control pintle has control parts and fluid lines, as well as certain recesses. Rotor and control pintle are insofar known from the former art. The invention provides unloading recesses in specific relation to the passages and chambers to make the rotor float around the control pintle concentrically or eccentrically in a desired extent. Supply slots are added to assist the build-up of hydrodynamic pressure fields to act in co-operation with the hydrostatic forces. Details are shown, how such supply means become provided or supply be secured.

  • Patent number: 4627792
Abstract: A rotating flow pump such as a centrifugal pump is provided with a feed pump unit formed as an ejector. The feed pump unit comprises an inlet portion, a nozzle, and a diffuser arranged in succession, and the diffuser is connected to the inlet opening of the flow pump. The inlet portion, the nozzle, and the diffuser of the ejector are situated in a plane perpendicular to the shaft of the flow pump. The diffuser comprises an inner channel of a uniformly increasing flow cross section at least over part of its length. Furthermore the diffuser comprises an outer jacket situated substantially coaxially about the above channel. Thus the jacket is formed in such a manner that a substantially 180.degree. almost mushroom-shaped turning of the flow direction for the liquid flowing through the diffuser is obtained at the same time as a uniformly increasing flow cross section--seen in the flow direction--is obtained within the annular chamber between the channel and the jacket.

  • Patent number: 4627797
Abstract: A standby aquarium pump is disclosed which contains a direct current power supply and relay means which will automatically connect this power supply to start the standby pump when alternating current power is interrupted causing the AC powered pump to stop operating. An alternate embodiment provides rectified alternating current as the normal power supply and the direct current power as a standby or auxiliary power source. A rotary direct current motor is employed to drive a reciprocating piston type air pump using an operating rod eccentrically mounted in a flywheel mounted on the motor drive shaft. Electric shock hazard is reduced by containing all 120 volt alternating current connections in a separate housing secured to the main housing. Thus, the main housing can safely be opened to install or replace the batteries by the user who will be exposed only to the low voltage direct current elements.

  • Patent number: 4626177
Abstract: A hydraulic arrangement has a housing which includes a first space of a definite first pressure and a second space with a lower second pressure. A primary pump supplies fluid under the first pressure into the first space to open the entrance ports into cylinders, which contain pistons therein, whereby the pistons are forced partially out of the cylinders and into the mentioned second space. In the second space the pistons are moved inwardly into the cylinders by an eccentric cam ring to supply a flow of fluid of a fourth pressure out of the outlet of the arrangement's housing. In modified embodiments the arrangement is a pressure transmission, which takes in a third pressure to drive a motor in the arrangement which in turn drives the shaft with the eccentric cam and the unit then exits the fourth pressure, which might be a very high pressure of up to more than ten thousand pounds per square inch.

  • Patent number: 4624175
Abstract: The hydraulic apparatus may either be a quiet hydrostatic drive with an axial piston pump and an axial piston motor or may be a quiet pump unit formed by two axial piston pumps. In either case, the apparatus includes two rotatable cylinder blocks disposed on opposite sides of a rotationally stationary valve block and tied together by a rod which transmits forces between the two cylinder blocks so that any force tending to unseat one cylinder block from the valve block tends to seat the other cylinder block against the valve block. A resiliently yieldable sealing ring on one end portion of the rod defines a pressure chamber which receives oil at working pressure to automatically increase and decrease the axial clearance between the cylinder blocks and the valve block as the working pressure increases and decreases, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4624174
Abstract: The former art provides multi stroke hydrostatic motors, which perform at a single revolution of the rotor multiple inward and outward strokes of the pistons. A high torque was thereby obtained. The invention discovers, that the known multi stroke motors are still too heavy, obtain small overall efficiencies and their power per size and weight is limited because the known motors failed to provide means to carry the tangential loads by fluid pressure power. The invention increases the power and efficiency of multiple stroke motors by the provisions of control means to control the flow of fluid pressure into pockets open to the piston faces and cylinder walls, whereby the torque of the rotor is transferred from the pistons to the cylinder walls by pressure in fluid in the pockets.

  • Patent number: 4623301
Abstract: An overflow check system 10 blocks overflow from a vapor powered, liquid pressure amplifier 11 except when required during start-up. Amplified output pressure derived from amplifier 11 enables a check valve 27 to close the overflow during operating intervals, and this pressure is trapped at the end of an operating interval to keep check valve 27 enabled and the overflow closed during inoperative intervals. Absence of amplified output pressure, which occurs when a delivery valve 17 opens on demand, overrides or disables check valve 27, opening the overflow line 20 and allowing amplifier 11 to start-up.
