  • Patent number: 5692998
Abstract: A data carrier in the form of an elastic ring segment has a radially outwardly facing surface to which the data providing tool information, are applied for example by printing. The ring segment has at least one radially inwardly effective connector element that forms a snap-on connector for securing the data carrier in an elastic, releasable manner to a connector area of a tool carrier to provide an elastic, interlocking form-fit between the data carrier and the tool carrier. Thus, the data carrier can be easily exchanged or replaced in accordance with the type of tool carried by the tool carrier.

  • Patent number: 5689874
Abstract: A wire cutting and stripping mechanism (22) for use with a wire processing machine (10) is disclosed. The mechanism includes a pair of cutting and stripping blade (180, 182, 184) tool holders (60, 62) which are slidingly coupled to the frame (16) of the machine. The tool holders are arranged to move toward a wire (12) to be processed in two discrete amounts of movement which are separable by a pause in movement. A pair of cylinders (130, 132) are interconnected to effect these two discrete movements. During the first movement the wire 12 is severed, followed by a pause in movement while the cut wire is repositioned axially with respect to the stripping blades (182, 184). The second movement is then initiated to sever the insulation, the stripping blades (182, 184) being held in position while the wire is withdrawn to strip off the slug (196) of cut insulation.

  • Patent number: 5688215
Abstract: A tool magazine disclosed is fundamentally the same in construction as a corresponding prior art tool magazine but is capable of handling tools of diameters greater than those of tools which can be handled by the prior art tool magazine. The tool magazine comprise a magazine body provided with an endless guide groove, and a plurality of tool pots each for holding a tool, fixedly provided with guide members engaging the endless guide groove for sliding movement along the guide groove. Idlers are disposed between and in contact with adjacent tool pots, respectively, and supported in the endless guide groove so as to move along the endless guide groove. A feed mechanism moves the tool pots and the idlers along the endless guide groove with the idlers in contact with the guide members of the adjacent tool pots, respectively. The idlers are substantially the same in shape and dimensions as the guide members.

  • Patent number: 5688214
Abstract: Tools are classified into small type tools that can pass through the space between a pair of grippers in its open position and large type tools that cannot pass through the space between the pair of grippers in the open position, when the headstock supporting a spindle holding a tool is moved to a position corresponding to a tool change position. When the next tool to be used is of the small type, the tool is moved through a standby position to the tool change position during a machining operation using the tool on the spindle, the headstock is moved to the position corresponding to the tool change position in response to a tool changing instruction and a predetermined tool changing operation is carried out.

  • Patent number: 5685674
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of producing holes or recesses in a workpiece of fiber reinforced materials using a rotary tool, preferably a rotary end mill, comprising a rear shaft portion and an integral forward cutting portion having a central axis. The cutting portion is a sintered body having at least a pair of longitudinally extending flutes and a corresponding pair of cutting edges made of diamond or cubic boron nitride at the circumference adjacent each flute so as to define the diameter of said tool. The tool is rotated about an axis and fed along said axis until the initial penetration of the tool is made whereby the tool supported after the initial penetration so that its central axis rotates eccentrically to the feed axis of the tool by a distance sufficient to drill a hole of a desired diameter greater than the diameter of the tool. The tool is fed in said direction until the hole has been completed.

  • Patent number: 5685812
Abstract: The turret punch press has a body frame (3); a ram (51) for striking a punch (41) to punch out work (W) in cooperation with a die (35); an upper turret (39) rotatably mounted on the body frame and having a plurality of punches (41), any desired punch being selectively located at a punch area (A1); and a lower turret (33) also rotatably mounted on the body frame and having a plurality of dies (35), any desired die mated with the desired punch being selectively located at the same punch area (A1). In particular, the upper turret (39) is formed smaller in diameter than the lower turret (33), and further the upper turret (39) is dislocated eccentrically from the lower turret (33) toward the punch area (A1) to provide an open die exchange area (A2) over a part of the lower turret (33). Or else, the upper turret (39) is formed with a cutout portion (53) to provide an open die exchange area (A2) over a part of the lower turret (33) when the upper turret is disposed concentrically on the upper turret (39).

  • Patent number: 5682657
Abstract: A pneumatic marking tool (35,123) is attached to one of the punch mounting holes (9) of the upper turret disk (3) of a punch press. When the punching striker (13) is moved down to its lower dead point, compressed air is supplied from a compressed air supply unit (103) to the marking tool to move the marking stylus (49, 129) up and down repeatedly at a high speed. At the same time, the work (W) is moved in a two-dimensional way by the Y- and X-axis work driving mechanisms (27, 29) of the punch press, in synchronism with the repetitive marking stylus motion, to engrave characters and/or symbols as a form of gathered dots all under control of the numerical control unit (33). Therefore, it is possible to mark or engrave any required characters and/or symbols without occupying a number of punch mounting stations of the upper turret disk and without the use of any punch press of high punching frequency, thus eliminating the laborious setting work required whenever the plate thickness of the work changes.

  • Patent number: 5676504
Abstract: A key cutting machine includes a cutter wheel, a key follower and a key positioning fixture for retaining a master key and a key blank in defined positions. Longitudinal and lateral displacement elements displace the cutter wheel and the key blank relative to each other. First and second electronic position sensors generate cutter wheel longitudinal and lateral position signals which electrically define the position of the cutter wheel relative to the key blank blade. A mode control system selectively operates the key cutting machine in either an analog mode where the bit notch pattern of a master key is mechanically traced and duplicated in the key blade blank or in a digital mode in which an electronically defined bit notch pattern is electrically duplicated in the key blank blade without reference to or tracing the master key bit notch pattern.
