The process comprises including in the aqueous cleaner composition, an effective amount of at least one heterocyclic compound. Enhanced mobility of the aluminum surfaces also can be obtained when the heterocyclic compound is a solid particulate compound which is mixed with an oil prior to addition to the aqueous alkaline cleaner. In a preferred embodiment, the heterocyclic compounds are soluble pyrroles, imidazoles, pyrazoles, thiazoles or triazoles.

Abstract: Solvents having superior cleaning power include at least one polar compound having at least one strongly electro- negative oxygen, such as ethylene diacetate, and at least one alicyclic carbonate, such as ethylene carbonate, with or without other additives. The solvents exhibit low toxicity; are nonflammable, pH neutral, essentially nonvolatile, and aprotic; and have other chemical and physical properties that reduce the risk of exposing the user unnecessarily to hazardous conditions. Solvents comprising ethylene carbonate, ethylene diacetate, and, optionally, triethanolamine (TEA) and/or N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) are superior cleaners for a wide range of residues and are environmentally and physiologically safe, and may be diluted with water for cleaning tasks that are insensitive to corrosion.
Abstract: The present invention relates to non-toxic, non-flammable, safe compositions employing primarily biodegradable components for use in removing and stripping paint, varnishes and stains from hard and/or flexible surfaces. The compositions generally avoid the use of methylene chloride, methanol, toluol or acetone.Paint stripper compositions of the present invention have flash points above about 120.degree. F. and an absence of low-boiling VOC's comprising:a. about 0% to about 60% by weight of a terpene compound containing at least 10 carbon atoms;b. about 10% to about 69% by weight of N-methyl pyrrolidone or its equivalent; andc. about 0% to about 20% by weight of an emulsifying surfactant.Compositions of the present invention may further comprise one or more of the following: about 5% to about 15% by weight of a solvent extender or bulking agent, about 5% to about 60% of a high flash point, high K.sub.
Abstract: A method is provided herein which is particularly effective for removing or stripping varnish and paint from surfaces such as wood or metal which comprises activating NMP and/or BLO with about 1-30% by weight of an activator compound which is ethyl 3-ethoxypropionate (EEP).
