  • Patent number: 9016295
Abstract: An integrated pole unit is connected to a patio umbrella canopy and allows the canopy to be raised by a foot, hand or low pressure compressor pump and lowered by releasing air via an air pressure valve. The external umbrella pole is hollow with a slit at the top and contains an “internal pole mechanism” with a metal insert that is attached to the base of the canopy and moves up the slit with increased air pressure in the pole, which raises the umbrella canopy. There is an air pressure valve that, when closed, keeps the umbrella canopy in the full open position, and when open, releases the air, resulting in the umbrella canopy closing automatically in a slow and controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 9016296
Abstract: An umbrella structure includes a shaft, a top notch fixed at the top end of the shaft, a runner mounted around and slidable along the shaft, plural ribs, plural stretchers, a canopy, and plural torsion springs. Each rib has an upper end pivotally connected to the top notch. Each stretcher has an upper end pivotally connected to an intermediate portion of one of the ribs and a lower end pivotally connected to the runner. The canopy can be opened or closed by sliding the runner upward or downward along the shaft. One torsion spring is provided where each rib is pivotally connected to the corresponding stretcher. When the runner is slid downward to close the canopy, each torsion spring is compressed and stores energy. When the runner is slid upward to open the canopy, each torsion spring releases the stored energy to reduce the effort required for opening the canopy.

  • Patent number: 8978679
Abstract: A temporary garage device is disclosed that allows users to easily protect the outside of their vehicle from the elements. The temporary garage device comprises a protective cover component and a storage component for storing the protective cover component. Typically, the protective cover component is positioned in an arc-shape via a plurality of thin beams secured to the interior surface of the protective cover component to form a semi-rigid skeletal structure. Specifically, the protective cover component collapses in an accordion style for storage in the interior of the storage component. When needed, the protective cover component can then be linearly extended outward from the storage component in a semi-tubular configuration to cover the vehicle. Additionally, the storage component can comprise a plurality of wheels secured to a bottom side to allow the storage component to move and for ease in transportation of the temporary garage device.

  • Patent number: 8978677
Abstract: An improved cane with an internal grasping apparatus including an actuator on the cane handle and a plurality of clamps that extends from the foot or base of the cane. A cord system within the casing of the cane connects the actuator to the clamps so that when the actuator is in use, the clamps close or open to either grasp or release objects, depending on the amount of pressure applied to the actuator. Applying pressure to the actuator extends a plurality of clamps from the distal end of the cane that can be used to assist with grasping of objects. Releasing pressure to the actuator on the cane handle will retract the clamps back into the distal end of the cane to where the clamps are hidden.
