  • Patent number: 5423690
Abstract: An electrical plug selectively insertable into receptacles having different configurations of apertures for effecting selectable electrical connections. A plurality of contact prongs have extended positions in which they project exteriorly of a housing. Each of an appropriate subset of these prongs is adapted automatically to sense and enter matching apertures of a selected receptacle. The remaining prongs during such entry are moved inward of the housing by contact with and movement relative to a surface of the selected receptacle adjacent to the apertures, and cause prongs of the subset to be locked in their extended positions as they enter the matching apertures.

  • Patent number: 5423642
Abstract: A portable tool for milling a chamfered edge on a workpiece, includes a cutting attachment installed on a motorized drive unit. The cutting attachment includes a rotary milling cutter partially encircled by a hood element that carries a V-shaped guide structure adapted for sliding engagement with edge areas of the workpiece. The hood is attached to the motorized drive unit by an eccentric cam means, which can be adjusted to vary the penetration distance of the milling cutter into the workpiece. Various cutting depths can be achieved by adjusting the hood in relation to the rotational axis of the motorized drive unit. The V-shaped guide is arcuately adjustable to vary the slant angle of the chamfered edge independently of the cutting depth adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5419222
Abstract: A method for measuring the contour of a machined part with a contour gage apparatus, having a probe assembly including a probe tip for providing a measure of linear displacement of the tip on the surface of the part. The contour gage apparatus may be moved into and out of position for measuring the part while the part is still carried on the machining apparatus. Relative positions between the part and the probe tip may be changed, and a scanning operation is performed on the machined part by sweeping the part with the probe tip, whereby data points representing linear positions of the probe tip at prescribed rotation intervals in the position changes between the part and the probe tip are recorded. The method further allows real-time adjustment of the apparatus machining the part, including real-time adjustment of the machining apparatus in response to wear of the tool that occurs during machining.

  • Patent number: 5403133
Abstract: An automatic welding apparatus and an automatic milling apparatus for machining welding grooves in order to weld a three-dimensional surface such as a ball tank or the like are disclosed. A welding wire spool is accommodated within a case and a cover to prevent the welding wire from being oxidized and from being contaminated with foreign materials. The automatic milling apparatus is installed to form welding grooves on the both sides of the objects to be welded, in the case where a welding is performed on a three-dimensional curved surface. A guide roller having a handle is installed to control the machining depth of the grooves, and an idling type nylon guide roller is installed in closed contact with the shaft of a cutter, thereby adjusting the distance between the rail and the groove, and adjusting the deviations of the depth of the grooves, which are caused by the machining inaccuracies due to the deviations of the three-dimensional curvature.

  • Patent number: 5401128
Abstract: In a cutting machine having an octahedral framework, a cutting tool is carried by a servostrut support having a platform mounted on extendable and retractable struts. In order to reduce deflections and to limit transfer of bending moments, from the servostrut support to the other connected support sections of the framework, the six struts are mounted at pivot mounts such as ball joints in a triangular support. Three of the pivotal mounts are positioned in a first triangle and in corners of the triangle support, and the other three struts are positioned in a second larger triangle in the triangular support. The nominal axis of rotation of spindle drive for the cutting tool may be either about nominal horizontal axis, a nominal vertical axis or a nominal 45.degree. axis. Several frameworks may be arranged to define a hollow tunnel with platforms projecting their cutting tools from opposite sides of the transfer tunnel.
