  • Patent number: 5366431
Abstract: An automated die transfer system for location adjacent to one end of a press brake bed. It includes an upper and lower tier storage rack for storing a die, or for transferring a die to a press brake bed. The racks may have different widths, and rollers spaced along their length. A wheeled carriage on rails carries the storage rack. A first drive motor moves the carriage horizontally along the tracks, while a second drive motor is linked to a drive for raising and lowering the storage rack. A control system, which includes a multi-axis axis control, is connected to both motors. The control panel is mounted on a hinged support arm. In use, the control panel is pivoted to the front of the press brake, turned on, and the multi-axis control is used to control the first drive motor to move the carriage into alignment with one end of a press brake bed, and is then used to control the second drive motor to cause the storage rack to move vertically adjacent to the end of the press brake bed.

  • Patent number: 5361471
Abstract: As it is intermittently supplied, a blank wire having a generally Y-shape cross section is cut into slices of a predetermined thickness by a cutting punch, which is fixed to the frame, and a coacting cutting die, which is reciprocatingly movable in the cutting direction. Then a bulge is formed on the head portion of the cut coupling element by a bulge forming die, which is connected with the forward end in stroke direction of the cutting die, and a coacting bulge forming punch, which is movable upwardly and downwardly. The cutting punch is equipped with preventing means on the upper side of the end of a blade for preventing the cut coupling element from jumping up from the blade, so that a bulge can be formed on the head portion reliably, without giving any damage to peripheral equipments.

  • Patent number: 5352073
Abstract: An mounting arrangement of a tool holder in a machine tool comprises a main shaft and the tool holder each having an extending end face formed by extending a given reference end face of the main shaft and a given collar end face of the tool holder, toward one another, respectively, both of which end faces are normally separated with a prescribed clearance, with required extensions so as to come into contact with one another when a tapered shank of the tool holder is fitted into a flared hole of the main shaft, so that the tool holder can be mounted in the main shaft securely owing to a high degree of integration, without the occurrence of friction due to the phenomenon of a fretting corrosion or the like in the contact surfaces between the flared hole and the tapered shank. Such a high degree of integration of the main shaft and the tool holder enables a deep cutting to be readily performed in relation to a workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5349889
Abstract: A slide (4) made up of a table (8) and a base (11) is actuated radially relative to a workpiece (M) to be machined via a stud (17) adjustable in a slot (16). The position of the stud can be regulated by means of a screw and a motor. A roller (24) borne by the stud then moves along another slot (25) in an arm (26) integral with a shaft (7f). The oscillations of the shaft are controlled by a control cam. Displacement of the stud relative to the pivot point of the arm permits the transmission ratio, hence the course of travel of the slide, to be varied. The angle .alpha. between the directions of the slots is other than zero at the end of the travel, so that the final position of a tool (29) can be adjusted by means of the control motor.

  • Patent number: 5346341
Abstract: A chip removal method and apparatus for a sign engraving machine. The method involves engraving a sign blank in such a manner that chips fall from a cutting region on the sign blank into an enclosure, and swirling the chips in the enclosure so that the chips exhaust through an opening in the periphery of the enclosure and eventually pass through a chute into a receptacle. The apparatus is a guide member located parallel to an outer envelope of the volume that can be occupied by a rotating cutting head of the engraver. The guide member has a surface for contacting the sign blank. The contact surface has an access opening at its center to allow chips to enter the guide member from a cutting region on the sign blank. The guide member tapers away from the cutting region and has an exhaust opening and chute for exhausting the chips. The guide member is used with a rotating cutting head that propels chips circumferentially and allows them to be exhausted through the chute.

  • Patent number: 5343604
Abstract: In a combined working machine, a positional relationship between a machining position of a workpiece and a tool can be determined to an optional value by a combination of a slide amount of a carriage along a slant surface, a slide amount of a tool post along another slant surface, a pivot amount of a turret, and a rotational amount of a chuck of a headstock. That is, the tool of the tool post can be brought into contact with the workpiece from a slant direction, and a combined working including cutting by a cutting tool and drilling in a slant direction by a drill can be performed. Further, the tool of the tool post can be moved to the desired machining position of the workpiece from the slant direction, and thus the moving amount of the tool post in a vertical direction can be reduced to lower a height of a machine tool and to give stabilization thereto.
