Patent number: 5504976Abstract: A device for mounting insignia, such as an embossed name plate, in a pocket of an article of clothing consists of a one-piece member including first and second spaced locating members and a clamping member which is integrally formed with the second locating member. The first locating member includes an inwardly facing locating surface having a laterally extending rounded hump thereon. The clamping member extends outwardly and upwardly from the second locating member toward the first locating member wherein a head portion thereof makes biased contact with the locating surface. The clamping member is biased toward the locating surface by means of an integrally formed curved torsion bar having an axis of flexure spaced away from the locating surface and extending in the direction of the lateral hump. The torsion bar is arcuate in shape and has symmetrical end portions which are arranged parallel to the axis of flexure thereby permitting bending flexure about the axis.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1994Date of Patent: April 9, 1996Assignee: Reeves Co., Inc.Inventor: Robert J. Patent number: 5474958Abstract: A wire bondable plastic encapsulated semiconductor device (58) having no die supporting surface can be manufactured. In one embodiment, a semiconductor die (22) and a plurality of conductors (12) extending toward the periphery of the die are provided. The die is rigidly held in place on a workholder (60) with a vacuum (62) for the wire bonding process. Wire bonds (26) electrically connect the die to the conductors. The wire bonded die is then placed inside a mold cavity (64), and a resin encapsulated is transferred into the cavity under elevated temperature and pressure to form package body (70) around the die, the wire bonds and a portion of the conductors. Before the package body is formed, the die is supported solely by the the rigidity of the wire bonds since there is no die supporting surface connected to the conductors.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1993Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Frank Djennas, Victor K. Patent number: 5467252Abstract: Routing density of a wiring substrate (10) is increased by providing a nested plating bus (18) as a supplement to an external plating bus (16). A first group of conductive traces (14) is connected to the nested plating bus, while another group of traces is connected to the external plating bus. After the conductive elements are plated, the nested plating bus is removed by etching, milling, or stamping techniques. Use of a nested plating bus increases I/O count for a given substrate area and/or reduces the need to have routing on more than one layer of the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1993Date of Patent: November 14, 1995Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Victor Nomi, John R. Pastore, Twila J. Reeves

Patent number: 5459891Abstract: An invalid lift and transport apparatus for safely lifting and transporting bedridden or wheelchair bound individuals with a minimum of effort and assistance is disclosed. The apparatus includes a movable mast assembly powered by a remote hydraulic pump. The mast assembly has an upright mast rotatable about a substantially vertical axis and a hydraulically extensible boom, for supporting an invalid carrying sling, pivotally joined thereto. A lift cylinder, joining the lower portion of the mast with the boom, is provided for raising and lowering the boom. A hand-held controller permits the invalid individual or attendant to extend, retract, raise, and lower the boom by selectively actuating the hydraulic components with the touch of a button. The mast may be similarly rotated. In operation, the sling may be readily moved to position an invalid seated therein to practically any position within the reach of the boom with a minimum of physical effort.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1993Date of Patent: October 24, 1995Inventors: Richard J. Patent number: 4847769Abstract: An automated vehicle includes a navigation system which carries out a dead reckoning calculation of the vehicle's position based on inputs from sensors on the motion of a steering wheel in the preceding time interval, .DELTA.t. Parameters of the system including the heading angle, the spatial position x,y the angular drift in the steering angle .alpha., a crabbing angle .beta. and a variation 1.sub.dm in steering wheel radius are updated by the addition of the product of a Kalman gain calculated by computer and an error signal produced each time an observation is made by laser bearing finding equipment on the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1986Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: The General Electric Company, p.l.c.Inventor: Peter J. Patent number: 4727492Abstract: A vehicle control and guidance system in which a desired route for the vehicle is stored in the vehicle in the form of co-ordinates in a ground reference frame. The `vectors` between these junction points are divided by successive reference points into incremental vectors, the reference points being generated ahead of the vehicle at regular intervals. A dead reckoning system predicts the position of the vehicle at the end of each interval and this estimate is corrected, using a Kalman filter, by an independent fixed-target detection system using a scanning laser. The error between the estimated vehicle position and the local incremental vector provides a steering angle correction for the vehicle and the vehicle speed is dependent upon the lag of the vehicle behind the generation of reference points.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1984Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Assignee: The General Electric Company, p.l.c.Inventors: Peter J. Reeve, Michael P. Robins, Malcolm T. Roberts

Patent number: 4591971Abstract: A digital computer has an addressable store 1, which may comprise segments 1a, 1b, etc. and a plurality of independent digital processing units 3a, 3b, etc. all communicating with the store 1 through a communication facility 2.Addresses in store 1 containing packets of digital data which require processing are held in a group of identifier stores 4a, 4b, etc. to which group the processing units all have access. Where processing results in the generation of fresh packets of data addresses for such data in store 1 are held in a second group of identifier stores 5a, 5b to which the processing units also have access. Controllers 6a, 6b, etc. and 7a, 7b, etc. ensure even transfer of identifier address among the stores of a group and act as interfaces between the identifier stores and the processing units.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1985Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: National Research Development CorporationInventors: John Darlington, Michael J. Patent number: 4534210Abstract: In the method, part of the liquid flow in a circuit is continuously withdrawn. A substantially constant head is established in the liquid drawn off, and at least some of this liquid is allowed to flow under gravity at a constant rate past a rotor rotated by a motor, so causing drag on the rotor in accordance with its viscosity. An operationing characteristic of the motor, such as its speed or the current which it draws, is monitored to provide an indication of the viscosity of the liquid. The constant head is established in one limb of a U-shaped chamber by means of a weir set at a predetermined height above the rotor, which is arranged in a downwardly directed passage surrounded annularly by the other limb of the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1983Date of Patent: August 13, 1985Inventor: Timothy J.
