  • Publication number: 20120246273
Abstract: A routing mechanism operable in a distributed networking environment, such as a content delivery network (CDN), provides improved connectivity back to an origin server, especially for HTTP traffic. The technique enables an edge server operating within a given edge region to retrieve content (cacheable, non-cacheable and the like) from an origin server more efficiently by selectively routing through the network's own nodes, thereby avoiding network congestion and hot spots. The technique enables an edge server to fetch content from an origin server through an intermediate edge server or, more generally, enables an edge server within a given first region to fetch content from the origin server through an intermediate edge region.

  • Publication number: 20120243791
Abstract: A method of classifying pixels in an image is described that includes calculating for each target pixel in the image, a functional value based on a median value of a block of pixels including the target pixel and storing the functional value for each pixel. Pixels in the image are then analyzed to determine if they correspond to edges in the image and if so, are classified as edge pixels. Next the stored functional values are analyzed to define a flat area delimiting function for the image. The stored functional values that do not correspond to edge pixels are then analyzed to define an image detail delimiting function and the non-flat area pixels are classified as being either flat area pixels or detail pixels based on the flat area delimiting function and the detail delimiting function.

  • Publication number: 20120242315
Abstract: This invention relates to the field of vibration switches, and more particularly to vibration switches used for DC to DC switching conversion. DC to DC convertors use an electrical switch like MOSFET/transistor for conversion to switched DC. The MOSFET/transistor requires a power source for the switching action. A vibration switch comprising of metal or conductive polymer strip can be used for the switching action in a DC to DC convertor. The strip is bent by using a small weight attached to one end. When exposed to vibration beyond a certain threshold the metal strip oscillates and performs multiple switching operations by connecting to the contact terminal. The switched DC thus produced could be filtered to generate a DC output. This switch does not require power for operation. The vibration sensitivity and frequency of oscillations of the switch can be controlled using the hardness of the material used.

  • Patent number: 8275751
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for database table aggregation are provided. A method includes encoding first and second components via a waveform definition, the first and second components specifying first and second criteria, respectively, for aggregating data. The method includes generating a complex periodic aggregation waveform (CPAW) having variable-sized square waves representing the components in a repeating pattern corresponding to the definition and the criteria, and which spans a first axis. The method includes providing a maximum byte count for aggregated data stored in a table defined by the first and/or second criteria, aggregating the data in accordance with the criteria, and creating a new table for overflow of data determined for the table when the maximum byte count is exceeded. The method includes updating the CPAW with results of the aggregation and generating a waveform representing the new table along a second axis.
