  • Publication number: 20160284404
Abstract: Phase change material can be set with a multistage set process. Set control logic can heat a phase change semiconductor material (PM) to a first temperature for a first period of time. The first temperature is configured to promote nucleation of a crystalline state of the PM. The control logic can increase the temperature to a second temperature for a second period of time. The second temperature is configured to promote crystal growth within the PM. The nucleation and growth of the crystal set the PM to the crystalline state. The multistage ramping up of the temperature can improve the efficiency of the set process relative to traditional approaches.

  • Publication number: 20160283352
Abstract: A virtual instance of a hardware device is generated from device profile model data. The virtual instance of the hardware device simulates operation of the hardware device. The simulated operation includes interacting with a software service over a network connection by generating, at the virtual instance, message data to push to a host of the software service over the network connection, receiving request data from the software service over the network connection, and generating a simulated response to the request data. The simulated operation further includes sending the simulated response from the virtual instance to the host over the network connection and modeling a physical effect measured by the hardware device during the interaction with the software service. Data sent by the virtual instance during the interaction is based on the modeled physical effect.

  • Publication number: 20160283503
Abstract: A database is identified, wherein the database has two or more tablespaces. A local partition and a global partition for each tablespace of the two or more tablespaces is created, wherein the created two or more global partitions are included in a global storage pool. A request to move an object to a first local partition of a first tablespace of the two or more tablespaces is received. That an amount of used space of the first local partition is above a first threshold is determined. Responsive to determining that the amount of used space of the first local partition is above the first threshold, at least a portion of the object is stored in the global storage pool.

  • Publication number: 20160285972
Abstract: Example embodiments relate to protocol agnostic storage access with a software defined network (SDN). A method may include receiving, at a SDN enabled switch, an initialization packet to access a storage volume. The method may include determining, at the SDN enabled switch, a storage protocol used by the initialization packet, adding a protocol tag indicative of the storage protocol to the initialization packet, and sending the initialization packet to a SDN controller. The method may include identifying, at the SDN controller, a storage application based on the protocol tag and sending the initialization packet to the storage application. The storage application may be one of a plurality of storage applications, each associated with a different storage protocol. The method may include performing, by the storage application, protocol-specific tasks.

  • Publication number: 20160283505
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for performing efficient compression and deduplication of data segments. Compression algorithms are learning algorithms that perform better when data segments are large. Deduplication algorithms, however, perform better when data segments are small, as more duplicate small segments are likely to exist. As an optimizer is processing and storing data segments, the optimizer applies the same compression context to compress multiple individual deduplicated data segments as though they are one segment. By compressing deduplicated data segments together within the same context, data reduction can be improved for both deduplication and compression. Mechanisms are applied to compensate for possible performance degradation.

  • Publication number: 20160285717
Abstract: Techniques for coordinated and device-distributed detection of abnormal network device operation are provided. In some embodiments, a method may include identifying a suspicious activity condition associated with a suspect network device. The suspicious activity condition may also be associated with the device itself. Activity of the network device may be detected and analyzed, including additional data corresponding to the activity from one or more other network devices in the same network. In response to determining that the suspicious activity condition is satisfied, an alert communication can be transmitted that identifies the suspect network device. When the activity is associated with the device itself, a local operation at the network device may be changed.
