  • Patent number: 8576218
Abstract: Architecture that facilitates the attachment of multiple visualization types (e.g., charts) to the data of a grid and the presentation of the visualization next to the grid. The infrastructure allows each data view to be associated with a set of visualizations. These visualizations are rendered along with the grid (in a separate presentation pane) so that the user does not have to switch context to perform analysis. The visualizations available include charts that show aggregate and/or non-aggregate data. In a server farm scenario, all user interactions such as drill-downs are provided. Server farm drill-downs for these visualizations can be obtained using MHTML (MIME hypertext markup language). The visualizations can be automatically updated when filters are applied on the grid, and when drill-down is performed on the visualization, the grid is automatically updated. The visualizations can be consumed from a web-based browser client and/or thick client, for example.

  • Publication number: 20130094695
Abstract: Method and apparatus of detecting orientation of document using a barcode decoding. The method includes (1) capturing an image of the document with an imaging arrangement having a solid-state imager; (2) determining a presence of a barcode in the captured image of the document; (3) decoding the barcode; (4) determining an up-direction of the document as a function of an orientation of the barcode in the document; and (5) setting an orientation of the document in the captured image based upon the up-direction of the document. In one implementation, the barcode is configured with orientation data indicating the up-direction of the document.

  • Publication number: 20130027573
Abstract: Method and apparatus of detecting orientation of document using OCR. Decoding. The method includes (1) capturing an image of a document having a text string with an imaging arrangement having a solid-state imager; (2) storing into a memory a captured image of the document obtained by the solid-state imager; (3) performing OCR decoding on the text string in the captured image of the document to find an up-direction of the document in the captured image; and (4) setting an orientation of the document in the captured image based upon the up-direction of the document. In one implementation, the text string includes an OCR string specifically designed for OCR decoding.

  • Publication number: 20120322034
Abstract: A system and method for language instruction for implementation on a language instruction system that includes a computer system, is disclosed, wherein the method may include identifying a speech segment in a target language, that is susceptible to mispronunciation by language learners; selecting an auditory attribute for use in playing the identified speech segment by the language instruction system; altering a level of the auditory attribute to differ from a naturally occurring level of the attribute; and playing a first text sequence by the language instruction system, including at least one instance of the identified speech segment, using the altered level of the auditory attribute.

  • Publication number: 20120284312
Abstract: A data reporting framework that works across on-premise and hosted Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms enabling definition and execution of secure custom reports is provided. A fetch query language of a CRM platform is used along with reporting service tools and constructs to enable users to upload and execute custom fetch based reports with support for expressions, code, formatting, and drill through. Users are also enabled to build simple reports from within CRM and, if needed, enhance those reports using reporting service tools and re-upload in CRM. Furthermore, custom reports may be executed in a sandboxed environment to provide full security in a multi-tenant, hosted CRM system.

  • Patent number: 8306253
Abstract: A modular headset and method of use comprises a headset band having a first end and a second end. The headset includes a first node coupled to the first end of the headset band in which the first node has a plurality of first jacks. Each first jack selectively receives a first plug of a peripheral device. The headset includes a second node coupled to the second end of the headset band. The second node has a plurality of second jacks. Each second jack selectively receives a second plug of the peripheral device. The headset includes circuitry coupled to the jacks at the first and second nodes, wherein signals from a peripheral device are received or transmitted to any of the first jacks in the first node and signals from the external electronic device are received or transmitted to any of the second jacks in the second node.

  • Patent number: 8245937
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating an optimized exposure time for an imaging-based barcode scanner. The method includes (1) determining a SNR decodability function that enables a decodability value be determined from a signal-to-noise ratio; (2) determining a blur decodability function that enables a decodability value be determined from a blur value; (3) measuring a blur and a signal-to-noise ratio for an image captured with a first exposure time; and (4) determining an optimized exposure time based on the measured blur, the measured signal-to-noise ratio, and a combined decodability function that depends upon both the SNR decodability function and the blur decodability function.

  • Publication number: 20100248194
Abstract: A student using a teaching system, for example, to learn a language, selects a concept, for example a word or phrase, which he does not recall. On a display, he is immediately presented with an array of images or graphics related to the selected concept. For example, the graphics or images may be from previous lessons which involve the concept. If the student then selects one of the images or graphics he is presented with a list of all the concepts, for example, words and phrases, associated with that image or graphic. The student is thereby able to recollect the selected concept in the context of all of his previous experiences with it. If that does not restore the selected concept to his recollection, he is able to select additional images and graphics, in each case being presented with an additional list of related concepts, making it likely that the originally selected concept will be recalled.

  • Publication number: 20080281924
Abstract: Email server side or client side components either remove email attachments from the relevant email, or identify the attachment while the email is being composed and makes the attachment available from a secure website or file hosting site. The recipient then receives instructions in the email and links to access the attachments rather than the attachments themselves. Email attachment size limitations are overcome for sender/recipient mail systems. Also, file type limitations related to email attachments are overcome, provides improved attachment security, and reduces email bandwidth costs.

  • Publication number: 20070260730
Abstract: Constant availability and/or presence information of a roaming Instant Messaging (IM) user is provided. The invention recognizes that IM users are not always sitting at their computer where their IM client application is installed. Detection of an unrelated short-range wireless communication device, e.g., a Bluetooth cell phone, or an RFID, carried on the body of the IM user, is accomplished by other, local or guest computers, and reported as presence changes for that particular IM user to an IM server, that logs that IM user's presence in a suitable IM user presence database. Thus, a status or presence change is automatically updated in an IM server or other relevant IM application when a roaming IM user is in a vicinity of a guest computer at a different location.
