The node has a component configured to receive notification about a communication diversion related to an incoming communication corresponding to only those communication diversions which match criteria for at least one specific reason to be notified, wherein the notification includes a diversion reason element that is locale-independent encoded.

Abstract: A network component is provided that includes a processor configured to inspect requests sent to the network component to determine if the requests are related to emergencies. If one of the requests is determined to relate to an emergency, the processor is further configured, based on configurations and regulator policies, to update the request.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for facilitating responding to a request in a network environment including IMS. A component associated with a recipient is configured to receive an incoming message from a sender, wherein the incoming message is substantially free of an indication of acceptance by the sender of a body of a particular content type. A component associated with the recipient is configured to provide an outgoing message including at least one body of the particular content type.

Abstract: A network component is provided that includes a processor configured, upon the network component receiving an IMS (Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem) emergency call from a user equipment (UE) 110, to detect in the emergency call an indicator requesting the network component to restrict presentation of private information related to the UE 110. The processor is further configured, when the indicator is present, to transmit the emergency call without at least some of the private information to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) 130.

Abstract: A scheme for facilitating accelerated network selection by a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one exemplary embodiment, the wireless UE device includes means for manipulating a search sequence order relating to a system acquisition database structure that is associated with the wireless UE device, the manipulation based at least in part upon how long the wireless UE device was in power off condition. Also included is means for locating a network via scanning based upon the acquisition database responsive to the manipulation.

Abstract: A system and method for accelerating network selection by a wireless user equipment (UE) device without having to perform a full band scan (FBS). In one exemplary embodiment, the wireless UE device is operable to scan in a network environment for discovering at least one network. Depending upon geographic region information decoded from the discovered network's identity information, a logic structure in the wireless UE device is operable to determine a subset of appropriate frequency data for selective scanning by said wireless UE device. Using the subset of appropriate frequency data, a selective scanning is performed for locating a network by the wireless UE device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for providing operator-differentiated messaging to a user equipment (UE) device that is operable in wide area cellular network (WACN) bands as well as in wireless access network bands (e.g., GAN bands and/or UMA bands). A network node (e.g., a GAN controller (GANC) or UMA network controller (UNC)) is equipped with logic for resolving service requirements as well as network information gathered by the UE device. Based thereon, a response message is transmitted to the UE device, the response message including supplementary fields for carrying operator-differentiated information in free-form text.

Abstract: A user agent (UA) for communicating with a communications network implementing an internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) is presented. The UA is configured to send and receive session initiation protocol (SIP) messages. The UA includes a processor configured to send a message to the network. The message identifies an application policy. The application policy defines at least one of a SIP message header field to include, a SIP message header field to remove, a SIP message header field to allow, and a SIP message header field to modify. The processor is configured to receive a SIP message from the network. The SIP message includes a set of SIP message header fields. The set of SIP message header fields are modified in accordance with the application policy.

Abstract: A method for modifying the contents of session initiation protocol (SIP) messages is presented. The method includes receiving a SIP message. The SIP message may include a set of message header fields. The method includes receiving an application policy. The application policy may specify how to modify the SIP message based on a characteristic of the SIP message. Alternatively, the application policy may be retrieved from a database such as one provided by a home subscriber server (HSS) or an application server. The method includes using the application policy to modify the SIP message resulting in a modified message, and sending the modified message.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for an IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) mobile network to transfer an IMEI or IMEISV to an equipment ID register. A SIP, or other IP-based, message including the IMEI or IMEISV of a user equipment is converted by a protocol converter embodied at an application server into a MAP or DIAMETER message. A forwarder forwards on the MAP or DIAMETER message to EIR.

Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating home, or other public network access by a wireless device. The access is made in order to access public-network services by the wireless device when connecting to the public network by way of another network. Access availability by way of 802.1x-capable wireless local area networks, if any, is determined A listing is made of networks through which connections are able to be made. And, if operator policy permits, a public-network access attempter attempts to make communication connections by way of non-802.1x-capable wireless local area networks, if any. Identification is made of network access availability, and such identified network access is displayed to provide a user of the wireless device with an opportunity to select in what manner to connect to the public network.

Abstract: A method for performing registration is provided. The method includes receiving a server timeout message, the server timeout message including at least a field set to a value equal to a value received during a first registration. The method further includes initiating restoration procedures by performing a second registration in response to receiving the server timeout message.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for interpreting contents of at least one message body per message, e.g., a SIP or HTTP message, wherein the message body contents correspond to a content type. A communication protocol message such as a SIP or HTTP message is generated by a sender towards a recipient, wherein the message includes at least one message body content in the message's body. A component associated with the recipient is configured to examine whether at least one indicator is associated with the message. A component, operable responsive to the examination, is configured to inhibit a treatment of the message body content and to apply an alternative treatment with respect thereto.

Abstract: According to one aspect, a system and method of exchanging GRUUs (Globally Routed User Agent URI (Uniform Resource Identifier)) between a first telephony-enabled device and a second telephony enabled device using a circuit-switched message is provided. Once exchanged, the telephony enabled devices can exchange SIP (session initiated protocol) communications routed by the GRUUs. Any one of the telephony-enabled devices can add a media component to the SIP communications. According to another aspect, a system and method of generating GRUUs is provided. According to another aspect, a system and method of handing off communications to a packet switched network from a circuit switched network is provided.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for originating a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) call from a user equipment (UE) device in a network environment including a circuit-switched (CS) network and an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) network to a called party are disclosed. In one illustrative example, when the SIP call is originated by the UE device in the CS network domain, a SIP Invite message which includes a SIP Uniform Resource Indicator (URI) or Tel URI of the called party is sent from the UE device to the IMS network (e.g. to an application server (AS) node). At the AS node, a pool of E.164 numbers are maintained as IP multimedia routing numbers (IMRNs) which are utilized for mapping to or otherwise associating with called party URIs. Thus, the AS node dynamically allocates a select E.164 number with respect to the called party's URI received from the UE device, and returns it to the UE device in a SIP Response message, e.g., a SIP 380 (Alternative Service) message. A device-direction policy is created and stored at a network entity. The policy identifies preferred devices to which communications of a communication session are to be provided. A SIP Invite, or other communication-session initiation message, is provided to the network entity. The network entity detects the message, accesses the policy, and forwards on the message in accordance with the policy.

Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating selection of a I-WLAN, or other network, by a wireless device. An electronic storage element is provided. A listing of specific network identifiers is stored at the electronic storage element. And, a listing indicia identifier is also stored at the electronic storage element. The listing indicia identifier is configured to identify formatting of the specific network identifiers. Formatting of the information permits compliance with 3GPP TS 31.102 [13] that requires that at least ten WSID entries to be storable at a WSID list.
