  • Publication number: 20130013796
Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, for directing communications of a communication session to a selected communication device, or devices, of a group of commonly-registered devices. A device-direction policy is created and stored at a network entity. The policy identifies preferred devices to which communications of a communication session are to be provided. A SIP Invite, or other communication-session initiation message, is provided to the network entity. The network entity detects the message, accesses the policy, and forwards on the message in accordance with the policy.

  • Patent number: 8351919
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating selection of a I-WLAN, or other network, by a wireless device. An electronic storage element is provided. A listing of specific network identifiers is stored at the electronic storage element. And, a listing indicia identifier is also stored at the electronic storage element. The listing indicia identifier is configured to identify formatting of the specific network identifiers. • Patent number: 8345671
Abstract: In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for managing call routing in a network environment including a circuit-switched (CS) network and an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) network. When a call is originated by a user equipment (UE) device in the CS network, call information associated with the call is provided to a call continuity control function (CCCF) network node disposed in the IMS network. At the CCCF node, a pool of E.164 numbers are maintained as IP multimedia routing numbers (IMRNs) which are mapped to or otherwise associated with called party numbers. The CCCF node dynamically allocates a select IMRN with respect to a called party number received from the UE device and returns it to the UE device. The dynamically allocated IMRN is then utilized for routing the call towards the called party.

  • Patent number: 8340017
Abstract: In one embodiment, a message generation scheme is disclosed that is operable with respect to user data information relating to the signaling of an IMS message over a CS network. A number of User Data Items (UDIs) may be configured at one of the entities, e.g., a UE device or a network node, wherein each UDI is operable to contain a plurality of Information Element Identifiers (IEIs). For a select IEI, an Information Element Data Length (IEDL) structure is provided that is operable to indicate a length of data associated with the select IEI, wherein the data comprises at least a portion of the user data information. One or more alternative signaling (AS) messages are generated for transmission to a second entity, wherein the AS messages include one or more of the UDIs.

  • Patent number: 8325712
Abstract: A method for providing a user agent (UA) with configuration data for a subsequent session is provided. The method includes the UA sending a first setup message over a first control signalling to control a second control signalling. The method further includes the UA sending a second setup message via the second control signalling, the second setup message initiating procedures to establish a circuit switched-based bearer. The method further includes a network component sending the UA a control message via the first control signalling indicating that a session has been established, the control message containing information related to configuration data for a subsequent session.

  • Patent number: 8301135
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to facilitate operation of a roaming mobile node to perform a packet communication service. When the mobile node roams beyond its home network, detection is made of the available networks in whose coverage area that the mobile node roams together with the communication capabilities of the available networks. A preferred listing stored at a storage element of the mobile node is accessed to determine if any of the available and compatible networks are listed on the preferred listing. If so, selection is made of one of the available and preferred networks. Otherwise, a network not contained in the preferred listing is selected through which to communicate.

  • Patent number: 8295817
Abstract: In one illustrative example, a technique in a server to facilitate a re-establishing of communication over a data connection between an application server and a wireless communication device which communicates via a base station of a wireless communication network is described. In response to a communication loss between the wireless device and the wireless network which causes the data connection to be terminated, the server receives from the application server a plurality of connection requests which are intended for receipt by the wireless device for re-establishing the data connection. The server operates to limit the number or a rate of the connection requests allowed to pass from the server to the base station of the wireless network during the communication loss between the wireless device and the wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20120257611
Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating home, or other public network access by a wireless device. The access is made in order to access public-network services by the wireless device when connecting to the public network by way of another network. Access availability by way of 802.1x-capable wireless local area networks, if any, is determined A listing is made of networks through which connections are able to be made. And, if operator policy permits, a public-network access attempter attempts to make communication connections by way of non-802.1x-capable wireless local area networks, if any. Identification is made of network access availability, and such identified network access is displayed to provide a user of the wireless device with an opportunity to select in what manner to connect to the public network.

  • Patent number: 8265614
Abstract: In one embodiment, a network node is operable, responsive to receiving a request from an enterprise user to initiate origination of an outgoing cellular call to a called party, for establishing a first call leg to the enterprise user by sending a circuit-switched call that identifies an enterprise address of the enterprise user as a calling line identity. The network node includes functionality for establishing a second call leg to the called party upon receiving an indication from the enterprise user that the first call leg has been established. The first and second call legs are then patched to establish an end-to-end communications path between the enterprise user and the called party, wherein the enterprise address instead of the non-enterprise address is presented to the called party as a calling line identity with respect to the outgoing cellular call from the enterprise user.

  • Patent number: 8229431
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating selection of a radio access network with which a roaming mobile node attempts to effectuate communications pursuant to a selected communication service. Listings are maintained at the mobile node, each containing entries of networks and their communication service capabilities. Different listings identify networks of differing preference levels. Detection is made of available networks, and a selector selects with which network to attempt to communicate based upon network availability, network capability, and preference.

  • Publication number: 20120184267
Abstract: Systems and methods for achieving PLMN continuity when moving between networks of different types through network selection are provided. When a mobile station moves from a first network type, such as cellular, to a second network type, such as GAN, if there is a PLMN discontinuity, this may result in a dropped call. In order to avoid this, networks for the first network type and the second network type are selected such that there is PLMN continuity. This can involve reselection of a different cellular network than one currently providing service to the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20120178406
Abstract: A system or method may facilitate delivery of network-specific dialing codes to a mobile node. When a mobile node is registered to a network part of the network infrastructure of a radio communication system, a request is generated by the mobile node, requesting download thereto of the dialing codes used in the network part to call service centers associated therewith. The requested dialing codes are downloaded to the mobile node. The downloaded dialing codes are indexed together with the dialing codes normally used by the mobile node to call the corresponding service centers. Subsequently, when a call is placed to a service center, the dialing codes are transposed, if necessary, to permit the call to a designated service center to be completed.
