  • Patent number: 10947921
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for diagnosing whether one or more intake air oxygen sensors positioned in an intake of an engine of a vehicle, are functioning as desired. In one example, a method comprises injecting fuel into one or more cylinders of the engine without combustion, routing un-combusted hydrocarbons from the one or more cylinders to the intake via a crankcase ventilation system, and indicating whether the one or more intake air oxygen sensors are functioning as desired based on a response of the one or more intake air oxygen sensors. In this way, the one or more intake air oxygen sensors may be periodically diagnosed which may improve engine operation, and reduce engine degradation, particularly with regard to hybrid electric vehicles with limited engine run-time.

  • Publication number: 20210068737
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments described in this disclosure are generally directed to systems and methods for reducing anxiety in an occupant of a vehicle. In one exemplary method, a computer that is provided in a vehicle receives from a source such as a server computer, information that is used to determine a behavioral profile of an occupant of the vehicle. The computer utilizes the behavioral profile to identify a behavior characteristic of the occupant. The behavior characteristic is matched by the computer to one of various behavior categories such as an amaxophobia sufferer category or a controlling personality category. The computer then executes one or more operations in the vehicle based on the behavior category to which the occupant belongs. If the occupant belongs to the amaxophobia sufferer category, the computer may, for example, play an audio track, display a video clip, and/or change a driving characteristic of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 10915104
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for enabling a vehicle for which a jet pump that functions to transfer fuel from a passive side to an active side of a saddle fuel tank is degraded, to reach a desired destination by the taking of mitigating action. The mitigating action includes conducting a driving maneuver in response to an indication that the jet pump is degraded, the driving maneuver conducted in order to transfer a desired amount of fuel from the passive side to the active side. In this way, a vehicle may reach a desired destination even under circumstances where the vehicle may otherwise be unable to reach the desired destination.

  • Patent number: 10906798
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for increase a rate at which a saddle fuel tank is depressurized responsive to a request for refueling. In one example, a method may include, responsive to the request for refueling, depressurizing a primary side of the saddle fuel tank to a secondary side of the saddle fuel tank, and commanding open a refueling lock coupled to the primary side to allow fuel to be delivered to the primary side when pressure in the primary side drops below a threshold pressure. In this way, the secondary fuel tank may be maintained at atmospheric pressure prior to the request for refueling, which may increase the rate of depressurization of the saddle fuel tank responsive to the request.

  • Patent number: 10907563
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for reducing release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere for a hybrid vehicle. In one example, a method comprises locking a transmission of the vehicle in park until a request to override the locking is received at a controller of the vehicle, and conducting one or more routines related to reducing release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere, where the one or more diagnostic routines rely on a vacuum derived from an engine of the vehicle combusting air and fuel while the transmission is locked in park. In this way, completion rates for conducting the one or more routines may be improved, and issues related to the release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere may be reduced or avoided.

  • Publication number: 20210025355
Abstract: A quick connect fitting for coupling a first component of an evaporative emissions system of a vehicle to a second component of the evaporative emissions system is provided. In one example, the quick connect fitting includes an indicator section that includes a color-changing material that changes color based on an extent of deformation of the color-changing material, where secure coupling of the first component to the second component is dependent on the extent of deformation. In this way, it may be readily determined as to whether a particular quick connect fitting is securely connected, which may improve engine operation, reduce undesired emissions, and reduce warranty rates.

  • Patent number: 10900427
Abstract: A method is presented, comprising, during a first condition, including an active refueling event, receiving an indication of hydrocarbon breakthrough from the fuel vapor canister; and restricting flow of fuel vapor through a fuel vapor canister vent pathway responsive to the indication of hydrocarbon breakthrough. Restricting the fuel vapor canister vent pathway will cause fuel tank pressure to increase, thus triggering an automatic shutoff of a refueling dispenser. In this way, the refueling event may be terminated without releasing significant quantities of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere.
