  • Patent number: 5668440
Abstract: In a discharge lamp having a discharge medium sealed in a discharge tube assembly including electrodes for producing a discharge, a nitride layer is formed on a surface of an envelope tube of the discharge tube assembly. The nitride layer is formed by substituting an oxygen component of an oxide constituting the tube wall of the envelope tube with nitrogen, and exhibits a continuous and smooth reduction in nitride content in the direction of depth. This chemically stable nitride layer prevents a reaction between the discharge medium and the tube wall material, and removal or injection of the discharge medium. In addition, since the nitride layer also exhibits a continuous change in thermal expansion coefficient in the direction of depth, the thermal stress is reduced, and cracking, peeling, removal, and the like do not occur.

  • Patent number: 5617115
Abstract: A word processor with a document retrieval function which successively and continuously displays retrieved documents which have been converted into code information and stored in the code information storage unit, so that by using a buffer memory of just little capacity, documents can be consecutively displayed at high speed, or at a specified high speed, or otherwise such consecutive display suspended and the documents generated one by one at high speed. In order to achieve this, the original code information is reduced so as to contain just enough information for retrieval purposes, and having been stored in the buffer memory, is used in the successive generation of the display image.

  • Patent number: 5555322
Abstract: An image storing device for compressing an original image, storing the compressed image, and expanding the stored image while enabling a high speed searching for stored image data is provided. An encoded data classification unit can classify the encoded and compressed data into reduced data output and an unreduced data output. Both the reduced and unreduced data output are stored and a selective reading unit can address this data. The data can be decoded and expanded and an arrangement control unit can arrange a sequence to the data so that the original image is reproduced when operating upon the unreduced data and when operating upon the reduced data, only encoded and compressed corresponding to scanning lines which are subject to reduced output are decoded and expanded after being reduced in a line direction.

  • Patent number: 5484961
Abstract: An opened barrel type crimp terminal having a body of semicircular cross section which surrounds an end of an electric wire. A pair of claws integrally extend from ends of a circular arc of the body and are adapted to be crimped on the end of the electric wire. This invention further includes a method of crimping the crimp terminal on the end of the electric wire. The body containing the end of the electric wire is put on a pressure receiving member. One of the claws extends a predetermined length longer than the other claw. A pressing member is displaced with respect to the pressure receiving member to bend the longer claw above the other claw so that the longer claw laps over the other claw. This crimps the electric wire into the crimp terminal.

  • Patent number: 5412941
Abstract: A device for determining a deterioration of the catalytic converter for an engine equipped with a catalytic converter disposed in the exhaust passage and upstream and downstream air-fuel ratio sensors disposed in the exhaust passage upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter, respectively. The device also determines whether the three-way catalyst in the catalytic converter has deteriorated based on the output signal of the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor when the air-fuel ratio of the engine is feedback controlled by the output of the upstream air-fuel ratio sensor, wherein the execution of the determining operation of catalyst deterioration is prohibited when the period of the cycle of the air-fuel ratio feedback control becomes longer than a predetermined value, thereby preventing errors from accuracy in the determination.
