  • Patent number: 9352529
Abstract: A sandwich material having both structural strength and significant acoustic attenuation. In one embodiment, a sandwich is composed of an architected core secured between two facesheets, with a compliant layer forming the connection between the core and the facesheets. The compliant core has a low modulus, resulting in a low speed for elastic shear waves in the sandwich, at low static loads. At high static loads the compliant material stiffens and allows the sandwich to exhibit significant structural strength.

Abstract: Methods and compositions for the diagnosis of cancer susceptibilities, defective DNA repair mechanisms and treatments thereof are provided. Among sequences provided here, the FANCD2 gene has been identified, and probes and primers are provided for screening patients in genetic-based tests and for diagnosing Fanconi Anemia and cancer. The FANCD2 gene can be targeted in vivo for preparing experimental mouse models for use in screening new therapeutic agents for treating conditions involving defective DNA repair. The FANCD2 polypeptide has been sequenced and has been shown to exist in two isoforms identified as FANCD2-S and the monoubiquinated FANCD-L form. Antibodies including polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies have been prepared that distinguish the two isoforms and have been used in diagnostic tests to determine whether a subject has an intact Fanconi Anemia/BRCA pathway.

  • Patent number: 9352775
Abstract: A vehicle having a driving assist system and an electric power assist steering system coupled to the driving assist system. The driving assist system transmits an assist torque request for reception by the electric power assist steering system for enabling the electric power assist steering system to adjust its outputted assist torque to accommodate requirements of the driving assist system. The assist torque request specifies a requested additional assist torque required by the driving assist system from the electric power assist steering system. In response to receiving the assist torque request, the electric power assist steering system performs an operation for determining a column torque offset as a function of both a force being applied by a driver of the vehicle on a steering column of the vehicle and the requested additional assist torque required by the driving assist system.

  • Patent number: 9357681
Abstract: A data center row infrastructure module enables rapid deployment of a computing room enclosure for computer systems that provides intake air circulation to, and exhaust air removal from, the computer systems in the enclosure. The data center row infrastructure module includes free-standing exhaust plenum structures encompassing opposite sides of the enclosure and a plenum module spanning a top end of the enclosure between the free-standing exhaust plenum structures. Each free-standing exhaust plenum structure includes an internal exhaust air plenum that directs exhaust air received from the enclosure through an exhaust air outlet on a top end of the free-standing exhaust plenum structure. The plenum module establishes a bottom end of a cooling air plenum above and separate from the enclosure and between the free-standing exhaust plenum structures. Some plenum modules can direct cooling air directly to the enclosure as intake air.

  • Patent number: 9351671
Abstract: A noninvasive analyzer apparatus and method of use thereof is described using one or a plurality of sample illumination zones coupled to at least one two-dimensional detector array monitoring a plurality of detection zones. Control of illumination times and/or patterns along with selected detection zones yields pathlength resolved groups of spectra. Sectioned pixels and/or zones of the detector are optionally filtered for different light throughput as a function of wavelength. The pathlength resolved groups of spectra are subsequently analyzed to determine an analyte property. Optionally, in the mapping and/or collection phase, incident light is controllably varied in time in terms of any of: sample probe position, incident light solid angle, incident light angle, depth of focus, energy, intensity, and/or detection angle. Optionally, one or more physiological property and/or model property related to a physiological property is used in the analyte property determination.

  • Patent number: 9352335
Abstract: A synthetic bead for use in mineral separation is described. The synthetic bead has a surface made of a synthetic material such as polymer and the synthetic material is functionalized with molecules having a functional group for attracting mineral particles to the surface in a separation process. The synthetic beads can be placed in flotation cell containing a mixture of water, valuable material and unwanted material or in a pipeline where the mixture is transported from one location to another. The enriched synthetic beads carrying the mineral particles are separated from the unwanted materials in the mixture. The mineral particles are then released from the synthetic beads by means of low pH treatment, ultrasonic agitation, thermal or electromagnetic treatment.

  • Patent number: 9352456
Abstract: A power tool includes a housing, a motor disposed in the housing, a transmission disposed in the housing and coupled to the motor, an output end effector coupled to the transmission, a control circuit for controlling power delivery from a power source to the motor, and a force sensing electronic clutch including a force sensor coupled to a substantially stationary element of the transmission. The force sensor senses a reaction torque transmitted from the end effector to at least a portion of the transmission. The sensor is configured to generate a first electronic signal corresponding to an amount of the reaction torque. The control circuit compares the first electronic signal with a second electronic signal corresponding to a desired threshold torque value, and initiates a protective operation when a value of the first electronic signal indicates that the reaction torque has exceeded the desired threshold torque value.
