  • Patent number: 9451426
Abstract: An alert peripheral device that provides sensory notification to a user of the device includes: a power subsystem; a communication mechanism by which notification signals is received from a first user equipment (UE) that generates and transmits the notification signals in response to detection of specific events at the first UE; and a response notification mechanism that provides a sensory response of the peripheral device following receipt of a notification of a detected event (NDE) signal. The device further includes an embedded controller coupled to each of the other components and which includes firmware that when executed on the embedded controller configures the embedded controller to: establish a communication link between the communication mechanism and the first UE; and in response to detecting a receipt of the NDE signal from the first UE, trigger the response notification mechanism to exhibit the sensory response.

  • Patent number: 9445224
Abstract: A user device includes a wireless interface to establish a wireless personal area network (WPAN) link with another user device. The user device further includes a notification controller to, in response to a link termination event (306) for the WPAN link, selectively trigger a user alert based on at least one of: an indication (312) of whether the user device is in proximity to a user; and an indication (314) of whether the other user device is identified as a user-portable device. The notification controller may selectively trigger a user alert further based on an indication (308) of whether the first device is connected to a specified wireless local area network (WLAN).

  • Publication number: 20160037675
Abstract: An electronic device has a housing, at least one actuator attached to the housing, and a deformable skin having air pores. The actuators are attached to both the housing and the deformable skin to impart a motion that causes a varying amount of separation. A thermal exchange cavity is defined by the housing and the deformable skin. A skin oscillation controller is contained with the housing and is electrically connected to the at least one actuators that vary a volume of the thermal exchange cavity by deforming the deformable skin, causing an exchange of ambient air through the air pores to convectively cool the housing.
