  • Publication number: 20140098375
Abstract: An interferometry system for monitoring changes in the position of an object, the system includes a spectrally broadband light source, a sensor module having an interferometer that direct portions of the light received from the source along separate paths. The system includes an intensity monitor having a detector configured to measure the intensity of additional light derived from the source and to produce a monitor output signal. The system includes an electronic processing module to process a sensor output signal based on the monitor output signal to account for intensity fluctuations in light output by the source, and determine information about the changes in the position of the object. The intensity monitor is configured to characterize the intensity fluctuations as a function of wavelength or intensity fluctuations that are spectrally correlated.

  • Patent number: 8682862
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for selectively restoring file-level data from a disk image backup. In embodiments, a virtual machine backup may be performed by dividing a virtual machine virtual disk file into a plurality of discrete fixed-sized data blocks sharing a common index file that is stored on a backup medium, such as a hard drive, to form a backup set. The index file is referenced to determine which fixed-sized block contains volume information, such as a partition table, of the backed-up virtual machine file. The individual blocks are processed as a virtual filesystem which is mounted and presented to an access module, which traverses the filesystem and provide access to individual files in the image backup to a client process. The restore files may be delivered to the client in a container file, which may be compressed to increase transfer speed. The container file may include executable instructions for automatically restoring the files to a desired location.

  • Patent number: 8660938
Abstract: A system and method are provided that, among other things, can reduce the burden on receiving computers, increase data throughput, reduce system failure, and provide components of a scalable and flexible network architecture. Specifically, the system and method provide a multichannel-multicast network environment for use in dynamically assigning data to channels. This configuration is particularly useful in a trading network environment, as it effectively performs channel reassignments in a way not to disturb the receipt of the underlying data. While the example embodiments described herein pertain to electronic trading, the principles of the present invention may be equally applied in other environments where the advantages presented herein are beneficial.

  • Publication number: 20140040104
Abstract: System and methods for reducing the risks involved in trading multiple spread trading strategies in an electronic trading environment are provided. Specifically, reducing the risks involved in trading multiple spreads that share a leg by, among other things, quoting a single order in the shared leg instead of quoting orders for each of the corresponding spread legs. Based on the computed quote price for the single order, associating the single order with the leaned on price that results in the price closest to the inside market in the shared leg. The single quote order is based on the market conditions in the spread legs and the desired spread price. Once the single order fills, a hedge order is sent to the leg that obtains the most advantageous price for the spread based on the other spread options.

  • Patent number: 8642069
Abstract: Viral upper respiratory tract infections, upper respiratory infections, and common colds can be effectively treated by the administration of a combination of a nasal steroid and a nasal antihistamine. By the administration of the combination of a nasal steroid and a nasal antihistamine with the onset of cold symptoms, the histamine cascade and the inflammatory response are impeded or eliminated, reducing the severity, duration, or frequency of the onset of cold symptoms. The combination of a nasal steroid and a nasal antihistamine may be, for example, a physical mixture of the steroid and antihistamine, or it may effectively be a combination wherein the patient is administered one component (either the steroid or the antihistamine) followed by the other, without physical mixing beforehand.

  • Publication number: 20140006152
Abstract: The present invention relates to advertising in stores through the use of video displays that can present customized advertisements when a customer is recognized as being in proximity to the video display. Video displays can be used in stores to display customizable advertisements of a particular vendor. These advertisements can be selectively modified, personalized, and/or customized for a particular customer when that customer is recognized as being in proximity to the video display. This recognition can use the customer's mobile communication device, such as a cell phone, which can be recognized by the system as being in proximity to the video display. This recognition can also read information from a user's identification card, such as a loyalty card, in proximity to the video display. Customized content can be moved from one display to another as the customer moves through a store.

  • Publication number: 20130339213
Abstract: A system and associated methods are provided for use of fractional pay-up ticks in relation to offset orders being sent for a trading strategy that involves trading a first tradeable object and at least a second tradeable object. According to one example method, when an indication is received that a quantity at a first price for the first tradeable object is filled, a plurality of offset orders for the second tradeable object is sent to an electronic order book of the second tradeable object. The plurality of offset orders is placed at a plurality of price levels determined based on at least one fractional pay-up tick value, the first price, and the desired spread price. A quantity for each order is determined based on a quantity divider rule that is applied to an offset quantity to offset the fill.

  • Publication number: 20130339311
Abstract: Systems and methods for information retrieval are provided that permit users and/or processing entities to access and define synthetic data, synthetic objects, and/or synthetic groupings of data in one or more collections of information. In one embodiment, data access on an information retrieval system can occur through an interpretation layer which interprets any synthetic data against data physically stored in the collection. Synthetic data can define virtual data objects, virtual data elements, virtual data attributes, virtual data groupings, and/or data entities that can be interpreted against data that may be stored physically in the collection of information. The system and methods for information retrieval can return results from the one or more collections of information based not only on the data stored, but also on the virtual data generated from interpretation of the stored data.
