  • Patent number: 8158905
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling arc shielding gas during an arc welding operation is disclosed. The method may include the steps of actuating a first valve connected to an arc initiation source of gas to selectively allow arc initiation gas to flow through a mixing chamber; initiating an arc; actuating a second valve connected to a primary shielding source of gas to selectively allow primary shielding gas to flow through the mixing chamber; actuating the first valve to reduce, if needed, the arc initiation gas flow from the arc initiation source of gas; and continuing with the arc welding operation. The arc welding operation may also include actuating the first valve to cause the arc welding operation to operate in a different metal transfer mode when it is desirable, or when the arc welding operation is nearing completion.

  • Patent number: 8135748
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for selectively restoring file-level data from a disk image backup. In embodiments, a virtual machine backup may be performed by dividing a virtual machine virtual disk file into a plurality of discrete fixed-sized data blocks sharing a common index file that is stored on a backup medium, such as a hard drive, to form a backup set. Upon restoration of data from the backup set, individual blocks of the data set are compared to corresponding blocks of the target virtual machine file. Redundant data and unchanged blocks are skipped, and only those block which have changed are restored to the target file. In this manner network bandwidth and processor resources are conserved, and replication times decreased.

  • Publication number: 20120053067
Abstract: The invention describes an explicit solvent all-atom molecular dynamics methodology (SILCS: Site Identification by Ligand Competitive Saturation) that uses small aliphatic and aromatic molecules plus water molecules to map the affinity pattern of a large molecule for hydrophobic groups, aromatic groups, hydrogen bond donors, and hydrogen bond acceptors. By simultaneously incorporating ligands representative of all these functionalities, the method is an in silico free energy-based competition assay that generates three-dimensional probability maps of fragment binding (FragMaps) indicating favorable fragment:large molecule interactions. The FragMaps may be used to qualitatively inform the design of small-molecule ligands or as scoring grids for high-throughput in silico docking that incorporates both an atomic-level description of solvation and the large molecule's flexibility.

  • Publication number: 20120036061
Abstract: A system and associated methods are provided for intelligent placement and movement of orders in an electronic trading environment. According to one example method, in addition to submitting a leg order at a calculated price level, additional orders, queue holder orders, are submitted for the leg order at prices either below or above the calculated price level. Based on this configuration, if the conditions change such that it is necessary to re-price the leg order, there will be already an order resting in the exchange order book at the re-calculated price that can be used in the strategy. Upon re-pricing the leg order, one or more additional queue holder orders will be placed in the market. Other tools are provided as well.

  • Publication number: 20110300506
Abstract: An endodontic file is provided for use during root canal therapy. The endodontic file has a handle, a blade, and a marker. The marker provides a working length adjustment scale that is integrated with the handle and the blade. After adjustment of the endodontic file to a desired working length, compared to the depth of a subject root canal, the marker is maintained in a substantially static position relative to the blade, which is itself stationary relative to the handle. The endodontic file reduces the chances of unintended complications during root canal therapy, for example if the blade were to penetrate into various tissues located in proximity to the root canal.
