  • Publication number: 20080317040
Abstract: Apparatus are provided for managing hierarchically organized subscriber profiles. According to one embodiment, a router includes multiple virtual interfaces and a policy engine. The virtual interfaces define connections between the router and corresponding subscribers of a service provider. A first virtual interface is operable to receive packets from a first subscriber and to process the packets in accordance with a first-level profile identifier. The policy engine is coupled with the virtual interfaces and operable to de-reference subscriber profiles of the subscribers on behalf of the virtual interfaces based on a database of hierarchically organized profile identifiers.

  • Patent number: 7469035
Abstract: A method of continuous real-time monitoring and positioning of multi-leaf collimators during on and off radiation exposure conditions of radiation therapy to account for target motion relative to a radiation beam is provided. A prediction algorithm estimates future positions of a target relative to the radiation source. Target geometry and orientation are determined relative to the radiation source. Target, treatment plan, and leaf width data, and temporal interpolations of radiation doses are sent to the controller. Coordinates having an origin at an isocenter of the isocentric plane establish initial aperture end positions of the leaves that is provided to the controller, where motors to position the MLC midpoint aperture ends according to the position and target information. Each aperture end intersects a single point of a convolution of the target and the isocenter of the isocentric plane.

  • Patent number: 7467751
Abstract: Devices and methods for depositing fluids on substrates in patterns of spots, lines, or other features use a nozzle, which is preferably configured similarly to a micropipette, having a piezoelectric crystal or other ultrasonic actuator coupled to one of its sides. The nozzle may be charged via capillary action by dipping it into a well containing the fluid to be deposited, and may then be positioned over a desired area of a substrate, at which point activation of the ultrasonic actuator at ultrasonic frequencies will eject the fluid onto the substrate. The needle may subsequently be dipped into a well of rinsing fluid for cleaning. Spots or lines on the order of 5 micrometers width may be generated, making the invention particularly suitable for use in biological applications such as microarray production and in microelectronics applications such as the printing of organic circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20080312874
Abstract: A processor generating a histogram of a set of data values receives a data value, and sets a corresponding register in each of two sets of registers based respectively on a decoded value represented by bits in a first and second set of positions in the received data value. The processor then simultaneously increments/updates each of multiple frequency counters (specifying frequency of occurrence of respective data values/ranges) by a value of a corresponding register in one of the two sets of registers if a value of a corresponding register in the other one of the two sets of registers is set. As a result, histogram generation is made efficient and fast. In an embodiment, 32 frequency counters are updated in 16 operations.

  • Publication number: 20080309240
Abstract: A high-intensity discharge lamp bulb with an attached housing for ballast and ignition electronics, forming an integral bulb and electronics unit. The electronics housing forms a removable closure for an access opening in a lamp enclosure. The electronics housing isolates the electronics from heat inside the lamp enclosure. A heat sink and radiator on the back of the housing provides heat transfer to a surrounding environment behind the lamp enclosure to cool the electronics. The electronics may be sealed in the housing for protection against entry of foreign substances. The electronics housing is fixed to the access opening of the lamp enclosure and to a boss or reflector mounted in the lamp enclosure, thus providing stable two-point fixation for the unit, reducing vibration.

  • Publication number: 20080311930
Abstract: By using current positions or predictions of future positions of mobile wireless communication devices, the performance of an ad hoc mesh network is improved. Current positions and predictions of future positions can be used to determine when to set up communication channels between devices. Current and future positions can be determined by the use of a Global Positioning System (GPS) Receiver or other position-determining devices. The GPS Receiver uses signals received from Satellites to determine current position, velocity and acceleration of a mobile wireless communication device. The predictions using current position, velocity and acceleration can be further improved by using devices that “know” the final destination or route of the mobile wireless communication device. An example of such a device would include, but not be limited to, automobile navigation systems that use internal maps and GPS Receivers to guide a driver to a final destination.

  • Patent number: 7467368
Abstract: A method of physical circuit design can include the steps of packing components of a circuit design that are dependent upon an architecture of the circuit design and assigning initial locations to each component of the circuit design. The components of the circuit design can be clustered by combining slices and including slices into configurable logic blocks according to design constraints, while leaving enough white space in the configurable logic blocks for post-placement circuit optimizations. The components of the circuit design then can be placed to minimize critical connections. The circuit design can be declustered to perform additional placer optimization tasks on the declustered circuit design.

  • Publication number: 20080303555
Abstract: A tone detector is disclosed that is realizable in digital embodiment on a single integrated circuit die and does not require external components, such as a discrete capacitor. An input connects to a comparator, which in turn connects to one or more edge detectors and a flip flop. The edge detector outputs a pulse responsive to a detected edge. A counter is reset by the pulses from the edge detectors thereby preventing the counter from reaching a maximum value, which would otherwise be output from the counter and provided to a flip flop to clock in the comparator output at the D input to the flip flop. In operation, the comparator generates a rail to rail signal responsive to a received tone, which in turn is clocked through the flip flop as a logic high output indicating presence of a tone.

  • Publication number: 20080305792
Abstract: Some embodiments are implemented in a communication system that includes a first wireless communication system and a second wireless communication system that includes a Femtocell access point (FAP) and a network controller that can communicatively couple the FAP to the first wireless communication system. In some embodiments, the network controller can communicatively couple to the first wireless communication system through a UTRAN Iu interface. Some embodiments provide a resource management method that determines that a user equipment (UE) has roved in a region serviced by the FAP. The FAP includes a generic access resource control (GA-RC) protocol sub-layer. The method creates a separate GA-RC state dedicated to the UE in the GA-RC protocol sub-layer. The method also sets the GA-RC state dedicated to the UE to a deregistered state to indicate that the UE is not registered to use the services of the second wireless communication system.

  • Publication number: 20080305793
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method of registering a user equipment (UE) in a communication system that includes a licensed wireless communication system and a generic access network (GAN) that has a generic access network controller (GANC). The method sends a register request message from the UE to the GANC that indicates a GAN mode capability of A/Gb only for the UE. When the GANC has a GAN mode capability of A/Gb, the GANC registers the UE with the GAN. When the GANC has a GAN mode capability of Iu only, the GANC rejects the register request message. When the GANC has a GAN mode capability of both A/Gb and Iu, the GANC registers the UE based on a set of GANC mode selection rules that the GANC applies for registering UEs with the GAN.

  • Patent number: 7462191
Abstract: A system for percutaneously introducing a prosthetic valve into a patient's vasculature comprises a balloon dilatation catheter, a prosthetic valve mounted coaxial to the dilatation balloon, and a pusher member comprising a longitudinally extending tubular member encompassing the shaft of the catheter. The distal end of the pusher member preferably corresponds to the proximal end of the stent component of the prosthetic valve. The pusher member provides enhanced longitudinal pushability for facilitating advancement of the prosthetic valve to a treatment site. The system is well-suited for advancing a prosthetic valve or other medical device through an introducer sheath having a relatively small inner diameter. The introducer sheath may be formed with a tapered proximal end portion for receiving the prosthetic valve and for reducing a diameter of the prosthetic valve during advancement therethrough.
