  • Patent number: 7450726
Abstract: A detector circuit detects whether a headset is present (inserted) in a jack by measuring the impedance between the connection points of the jack. The detector circuit further determines the headset type (e.g., whether of cellular headset, stereo headset or stereo+cellular headset) by measuring the impedance between the connection points of the jack. Power consumption may be reduced by powering down components which determine headset type if the headset is determined not to be present. Additional power reduction is attained by checking for headset removal only periodically if the headset is determined to be present.

  • Patent number: 7451129
Abstract: A system and method for providing preferred language ordering of search results is described. A search query describing potentially retrievable information provided in a plurality of search result languages is received. A search is executed by evaluating the search query against information characteristics maintained in a searchable data repository. At least one preferred language applicable to search results generated responsive to the executed search is dynamically determined. At least some of the search results are ordered in consideration of the at least one preferred language.

  • Publication number: 20080273596
Abstract: The disclosure relates to techniques for coding a channel switch frame used for switching between channels of digital multimedia content. In particular, an encoding device may code channel switch frame to exclude one or more blocks of pixels that may be reconstructed at a desired fidelity at a decoding device using one or more spatial error concealment algorithms. Excluding the one or more blocks of pixels of the channel switch frame that can be reconstructed at a desirable fidelity reduces the amount of bandwidth necessary to code the portion of the channel switch frame, thus allowing more efficient utilization of available bandwidth.

  • Publication number: 20080276025
Abstract: Locks which protect data structures used within atomic sections of concurrent programs are inferred from atomic sections and acquired in a manner to avoid deadlock. Locks may be inferred by expression correspondence using a backward inter-procedural analysis of an atomic section. Locks may be sorted according to a total order and acquired early in an atomic section to prevent deadlock. Multiple granularity of locks are determined and employed. Fine grained locks may be inferred and acquired to reduce contention. Coarse grained locks may be determined and substituted for fine grained locks when necessary for unbounded locations or to reduce the number of finer grained locks.

  • Publication number: 20080275947
Abstract: Client-side scripts are repackaged on the server side to be sent to the client with the corresponding data element. They are packaged to appear no earlier than the program location of a first corresponding data element. The document is rendered as it arrives at the client. In parallel, execution of the scripts to validate corresponding data elements occurs no sooner than rendering of the data elements. Validation of the document is delayed until the document download (and validation) has been performed.

  • Patent number: 7447700
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamically generating code that generates a mapping between territories and territorial assignees is provided. A code generator uses the territory criteria to dynamically generate the code for an assignee-to-territory-mapping-engine. The generated code uses the territory criteria and the territorial assignees to produce an assignee-to-territory-mapping. The assignee-to-territory-mapping can be used to determine the sales representatives that are responsible for a particular territorial assignee.

  • Patent number: 7447223
Abstract: One embodiment disclosed relates to a method of broadcasting packets through a network of switches. A packet is received to be broadcast through the network of switches. A broadcast path is selected from a plurality of generated broadcast paths. A broadcast path tag associated with the selected broadcast path is created and inserted into the packet. A determination is made of the port(s) by which to forward the packet, and the packet is transmitted via the port(s) to next switch(es) in accordance with the selected broadcast path.

  • Patent number: 7446321
Abstract: A method for using photoluminescence to identify defects in a sub-surface region of a sample includes performing a first probe of the sample. A first data set, based on the first probe, is produced indicating defects located primarily in a surface layer of the sample. A second data set, based on a second probe, is produced indicating defects located in both the surface layer and a sub-surface region of the sample. The first data set is subtracted from the second data set to produce a third data set indicating defects located primarily in the sub-surface region of the sample. The first data set may optionally be normalized relative to the second data set before performing the subtraction. The first and second probes may advantageously be performed using a first laser and a second laser, respectively, having different wavelengths from each other.

  • Patent number: 7447646
Abstract: The pricing of a product is programmatically managed by defining a plurality of pricing states for the product. Each pricing state has a pricing mechanism associated therewith. A pricing mechanism can be a variable pricing mechanism such as an auction. It can also be a fixed pricing mechanism for the sale, rental, or subscription of the product. One or more triggers are defined, each of which may include one or more trigger parameters, to enable the pricing of the product to transition from one pricing state to another pricing state. In this manner, the invention provides a seller with an automated, systematic approach to pricing management.

  • Patent number: 7447206
Abstract: The services offered (e.g., bandwidth) by a PVC can be changed, potentially as and when desired. An end system (of a PVC) may send a request to initiate a change of a service. Each intermediate system may first determine whether the service change can be supported, and passes the request to the next system in the path until the request is received by the other end system of the PVC. Assuming the other end system also can support the change, an acceptance response is propagated in the reverse direction of the same path. Each system may effect the service change upon receiving the acceptance response.

  • Publication number: 20080269921
Abstract: A system and method for providing support assistance and guidance include the creation of process maps and use of such maps in a service application. Process maps may be created using a creation tool that embeds interactive features in process steps. The interactive features may include the activation of an application, linking of a website and/or the display of an image or document. Process maps may be associated with clients/customers, applications and/or issue categories. Users may use and follow the process map to aid customers in resolving various issues such as technical questions and troubleshooting. Tracking and logging components may be used to track information relating to a case including the interactions of a support personnel and/or information entered. Compliance may also be measured based on, for example, an amount of time spent on various processes. Change management system may also be used to manage changes made to process maps.

  • Publication number: 20080268635
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention described herein generally provide methods for forming cobalt silicide layers and metallic cobalt layers by using various deposition processes and annealing processes. In one embodiment, a method for forming a cobalt silicide material on a substrate is provided which includes treating the substrate with at least one preclean process to expose a silicon-containing surface, depositing a cobalt silicide material over the silicon-containing surface, and depositing a copper material over the cobalt silicide material. In another embodiment, a metallic cobalt material may be deposited over the cobalt silicide material prior to depositing the copper material. In one example, the copper material may be formed by depositing a copper seed layer and a copper bulk layer on the substrate. The copper seed layer may be deposited by a PVD process and the copper bulk layer may be deposited by an ECP process or an electroless deposition process.

  • Publication number: 20080271109
Abstract: A unified access control component (UACC) can maintain information relating to network access information and physical location information associated with respective users who may access a network that can include network resources (e.g., applications, information). The UACC can cross reference the network access information (e.g., user network access events, credentials, and policy) and physical location information (e.g., user physical access events, credentials, and policy) and can generate and enforce a unified network access policy based on network access information and physical location information associated with a particular user. After network access privileges have been granted to a user, the UACC can continue to monitor the user. The UACC can include a dynamic authentication component that can request a user re-authenticate if a change in the physical location and/or network access associated with the user is detected, such that a re-computation of network access privileges is desired.
