  • Patent number: 7443443
Abstract: A method and system generate an enhanced output image. A first image is acquired of a scene illuminated by a first illumination condition. A second image is acquired of the scene illuminated by a second illumination condition. First and second gradient images are determined from the first and second images. Orientations of gradients in the first and second gradient images are compared to produce a combined gradient image, and an enhanced output image is constructed from the combined gradient image.

  • Publication number: 20080263026
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for detecting web pages with duplicate content. In one embodiment, a set of shingles is computed for each page of a group of pages. An aggregate set of shingles is determined based on the sets of shingles computed for the group of pages. A first subset from the aggregate set of shingles is determined by selecting, from the aggregate set, shingles whose frequencies in the aggregate set exceed a specified threshold. A modified set of shingles is generated for each page of the group of pages by removing, from the set of shingles for that page, any shingle included in the first subset. One or more duplicate pages in the group of pages are determined based at least in part on the modified sets of shingles generated for the group of pages.

  • Publication number: 20080261657
Abstract: A device for plugging into the data port of a mobile telephone, for enabling the mobile telephone to execute user applications; and a method for developing such devices and programming the applications therein. Application plugs may be inserted into the data port of the mobile telephone by the user for executing applications, without modifying any hardware or software of the mobile telephone itself. An exemplary telephonic application is presented, which monitors outgoing calls on the mobile telephone, and automatically reroutes long-distance calls through a calling-card or call-back service to obtain lower-cost calling rates. This application is transparent to the user and allows the user to place calls using the mobile telephone's phone book, speed-dialing, or redial features, and without having to enter local access numbers, calling-card account numbers, or other service access codes. Other applications, including non-telephonic applications, can be pre-programmed or downloaded by the user.

  • Publication number: 20080261596
Abstract: Some embodiments are implemented in a communication system that includes a first wireless communication system and a second wireless communication system that includes a Femtocell access point (FAP) and a network controller that can communicatively couple the FAP to the first wireless communication system. In some embodiments, the network controller can communicatively couple to the first wireless communication system through a UTRAN Iu interface. Some embodiments provide a resource management method that determines that a user equipment (UE) has roved in a region serviced by the FAP. The FAP includes a generic access resource control (GA-RC) protocol sub-layer. The method creates a separate GA-RC state dedicated to the UE in the GA-RC protocol sub-layer. The method also sets the GA-RC state dedicated to the UE to a deregistered state to indicate that the UE is not registered to use the services of the second wireless communication system.

  • Publication number: 20080261603
Abstract: A method and system for automatically placing calls made from a mobile telephone in an economical manner via calling card and call-back programs, with minimal user overhead. The system may be installed on an existing telephone by the user. To operate, the user initiates the placement of a call in the regular manner, as if the call were placed directly, and the system automatically places the call in the most economical way, such as via calling card or call-back program. The user can employ any dialing conveniences offered by the mobile telephone, including “speed dialing”, “phone book” dialing, or recent call dialing. All interaction with the calling card/call-back server is handled automatically; the user need not be aware that the call is being placed via a calling card or call-back program. Additional automatic features include automatic calling card recharging and selection of SIM for telephones supporting multiple SIM's.

  • Publication number: 20080261615
Abstract: A wireless access point receives a reverse link (RL) wireless wide area network (WWAN) signals from a wireless communication device and forwards wireless local area network (WLAN) location information related to the received RL WWAN signal to a position determining entity (PDE). The PDE uses the WLAN location information and, in some cases, other location information to determine the geographical location of the wireless communication device. The WLAN location information is any information that at least assists the PDE in determining the geographical location of the wireless communication device and may include any combination of data related to signal strength of the WWAN RL signal, a propagation time of WWAN RL signal, a distance between the access point and the wireless access point, a geographical location of the access point, and/or a geographical location of the wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20080256279
Abstract: An aspect of the present invention provides an arbiter which grants a request (to access a resource) in the same clock cycle as in which the requests from requesters is received. In one embodiment, such a feature may be provided in case of arbitration policies requiring state information from previous grants. In another embodiment, such a feature may be provided when the arbitration policy is programmable such that the same arbiter can be used for different arbitration policies.

  • Publication number: 20080254599
Abstract: Apparatus and methods that minimize surface defect development in silicon wafers during thermal processing at relatively high temperatures at which silicon wafers are annealed and at less extreme temperature, or for other purposes. The apparatus and methods have utility to horizontally-disposed furnaces for silicon wafers and to vertically-oriented furnaces in which larger wafers can be thermally processed. A selectively-sealable process tube encloses silicon wafers during heating of the silicon wafers to a predetermined temperature, and a heating atmosphere supply system induces through the process tube a positive flow of a process gas, such as hydrogen or argon, that is non-reactive with solid silicon at the predetermined temperature. A process tube outlet vents gas from the process tube, and an impurity sensor in the process tube outlet detects oxygen and moisture in the vented gas to verify the purity of the atmosphere surrounding the wafers during thermal processing.

  • Publication number: 20080252431
Abstract: A system and method for asset tracking utilizing a wireless device. An asset such as a vehicle can be equipped with a 3-axis geomagnetic sensor and an accelerometer in association with a remote control hardware component capable of responding to SMS (Short Message Service) command transmitted from the wireless device. As soon as the theft of the asset is detected, a “Theft in progress” SMS data can be transmitted from the wireless device to the remote device attached to the asset. The device then queries the geomagnetic sensor and the accelerometer at a pre-defined rate and transmits the X-Y-Z coordinates and acceleration values to the cell phone/computer via SMS at regular intervals. The device can also log the route of vehicle in a non-volatile memory which can be queried utilizing a “Request History” command.

  • Patent number: 7437525
Abstract: Techniques are provided for guaranteed undo retention. The techniques include a database server attempting to store undo information in undo storage. In order to store the undo information, the database server may overwrite expired undo records; write to empty undo extents; allocate new undo extents and write to the newly-allocated extents; or overwrite unexpired undo records that do not have guaranteed undo retention. If an undo record does not have guaranteed undo retention, then the undo record may be overwritten before the expiration time has elapsed. If no undo extent is empty or unallocated, and if all of the undo records are unexpired and have guaranteed undo retention, then the database system has, at least temporarily, run out of usable and reusable space and an error may be reported to an appropriate party.
