  • Patent number: 8560508
Abstract: Exemplary method, system, and computer program product embodiments for real-time column compression of data are provided. In one embodiment, by way of example only, a data structure is estimated for an initially unknown structured data. The estimated data structure is placed in a stream. A columnar compression operation is applied to the stream to generate an achieved compression ratio. The stream is compressed. Feedback of the achieved compression ratio is analyzed from the stream to determine if an optimal one of the columnar compression operations has been applied. If the optimal one of the columnar compression operations has been applied, the actual data structure of the initially unknown structured data is determined.

  • Patent number: 8560559
Abstract: A system highlights search terms in documents distributed over a network. The system generates a search query that includes a search term and, in response to the search query, receives a list of one or more references to documents in the network. The system receives selection of one of the references and retrieves a document that corresponds to the selected reference. The system then highlights the search term in the retrieved document.

  • Patent number: 8558880
Abstract: A wireless operating room communication system provides wireless transmission of video signals from a wireless camera or a wireless transmitter unit to a portable wireless display unit. A wireless multiple device control unit is in wireless communication with the transmitter unit, the display unit, and a plurality of surgical devices disposed within the operating room. Each of the surgical devices has a video receiver to obtain a video signal to synchronize the devices and units. The video transmitter unit has a video transmitter and the other units or devices have a non-video transmitter. The arrangement enables transmission of device control signals on the same channel as the video signal. In response to changes in bandwidth, the video transmitter unit reduces the video signal to enable transmission thereof to the video display unit, while maintaining robustness of the control signals.

  • Patent number: 8561067
Abstract: A method and system for performing tests in a virtualized computing environment. A test suite includes test code for testing emulation of a device associated with a guest hosted by a computer system. The computer system sets an input parameter of a migration command in the test code to a first value to turn off the migration command. The computer system executes the test code to produce a first result. The computer system also sets the input parameter of the migration command to a second value to turn on the migration command, and executes the test code to produce a second result. Turning on the migration command causes the guest to migrate to a second hypervisor. Based on the first result and the second result, the computer system determines whether an error occurs in migration of the guest or in the emulation of the device.

  • Patent number: 8559008
Abstract: An ellipsometer includes an integrated focusing system with a beam splitter between the sample and the ellipsometer detector. The beam splitter provides a portion of the radiation to a lens system that magnifies any deviation from a best focus position by at least 2×. The focusing system includes a 2D sensor, where the spot of light focused on the sensor is 50 percent or smaller than the sensor. The focusing system may further include a compensator to correct optical aberrations caused by the beam splitter. A processor receives an image signal and finds the location of the spot from which focus error can be determined and used to correct the focal position of the ellipsometer. The processor compensates for movement of the spot caused by rotating optics. Additionally, a proportional-integral-derivative controller may be used to control exposure time and/or gain of the camera.

  • Publication number: 20130268507
Abstract: Among other things, one or more techniques and/or systems are provided for facilitating the completion of a user task. That is, user intent (e.g., intentions of a user to perform a user task) may be identified. The user intent may comprise an entity (e.g., a movie entity) and/or an action (e.g., an order movie tickets action) that the user wants to perform on the entity. A provider list may be created based upon one or more providers capable of performing the action on the entity (e.g., a movie application may be capable of performing the order movie tickets action on the movie entity). Providers may be dynamically selected for inclusion within the provider list at run-time. For example, an open market of providers may be maintained (e.g., providers may be added, removed, and/or updated over time), such that providers may be selected from the open market to complete user tasks.

  • Publication number: 20130268336
Abstract: Consumer and merchant accounts are stored in the data store of a server computer system. Voucher entries are received from merchant computer systems and stored in association with the merchant accounts. Consumer account identifiers are pushed from the server computer system to a network computer system. A list of consumer account identifiers is maintained at the network computer system is checked to determine whether a consumer account identifier in a charge request matches any one of the consumer account identifiers in the list. Reserve checking is provided in when in discount checking mode. A voucher redemption system matches a merchant account identifier in a discount checking call received from the network computer system to one of the merchant account identifiers to identify one of the voucher entries. The transaction clearing system transmits a response with a discount amount of the voucher entry to the network computer system.

  • Publication number: 20130268328
Abstract: Techniques are described herein for generating a deal score to indicate a relative value of an offer for a commerce element. In one example, the deal score for a particular offer is based on a difference between a discounted price specified by the particular offer and an average of discounted price(s) specified by other offer(s). If the difference reaches a threshold, then a relatively high deal score is generated. Otherwise, a relatively low deal score is generated. In another example, the deal score is based on a difference between an intermediate value and the discounted price specified by the present offer. The intermediate value may be provided by combining discounted price(s) specified by other offer(s) and the non-discounted price of the commerce element being offered. If the difference reaches a threshold, then a relatively high deal score is generated. Otherwise, a relatively low deal score is generated.

  • Patent number: 8552789
Abstract: An access node receives a device beacon transmitted from a wireless communication device in accordance with a system timing of a wireless wide area network (WWAN). When transmitted within a WWAN uplink channel, the device beacon is mapped to designated beacon channels within the time-frequency space of the uplink WWAN channel assignment. In response to the reception of the device beacon, communications between the wireless communication device and the access node are established. In one example, the access node is a femtocell base station. In another example, the access node is a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point.

  • Patent number: 8554599
Abstract: Work item rules for a work item tracking system are provided. Work item rules may be accessible, usable and subject to interpretation by multiple software entities. Further, work item rules may be configured to be subject to creation and change by users, for example, by exposure to users through a user interface. A work item rule may specify an identifier by which the abstraction can be identified and/or a name, and may specify, or be indicative of, a condition and an action to be taken if the condition is satisfied. In response to a first user action affecting a first work item rule, one or more work item rules corresponding to the first user and/or the first work item may be determined. The one or more work item rules then may be interpreted, and the user action responded to based on the interpretation.
