Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for applying radio frequency (RF) energy to an object in an energy application zone. At least one processor may be configured to cause RF energy to be applied at a plurality of electromagnetic field patterns to the object in the energy application zone. The processor may be further configured to determine an amount of power dissipated in the energy application zone, for each of the plurality of field patterns. The processor may also be configured to determine a spatial distribution of energy absorption characteristics across at least a portion of the energy application zone based on the amounts of power dissipated when the plurality of field patterns are applied to the energy application zone.

  • Publication number: 20130241255
Abstract: A vehicle seat includes a seat back having a support frame coupled to a seat foundation. The seat back also further includes a deformable seat shell adapted to assume various shapes between initial position and final positions in response to variable rearward loads applied by a seated passenger. The seat shell is coupled to the support frame by a compliant shell-motion controller via upper and lower motion-control links. The motion-control links allow pivotal motion, and at least one of the links includes a spheroidal joint. A link foundation extends between and interconnects the upper and lower motion-control links and is coupled to the support frame so that the link foundation does not move during seat shell deformation. The shell-motion controller may be pre-assembled as part of a backrest or the motion-control links may be formed after the link foundation is attached to the support frame.

  • Publication number: 20130246325
Abstract: A method for classification of a newly arrived multidimensional data point (MDP) in a dynamic data uses multi-scale extension (MSE). The multi-scale out-of-sample extension (OOSE) uses a coarse-to-fine hierarchy of the multi-scale decomposition of a Gaussian kernel that established the distances between MDPs in a training set to find the coordinates of newly arrived MDPs in an embedded space. A well-conditioned basis is first generated in a source matrix of MDPs. A single-scale out-of-sample extension (OOSE) is applied to the newly arrived MDP on the well-conditioned basis to provide coordinates of an approximate location of the newly arrived MDP in an embedded space. A multi-scale OOSE is then applied to the newly arrived MDP to provide improved coordinates of the newly arrived MDP location in the embedded space.

  • Publication number: 20130239613
Abstract: A jewelry article is described that includes a plurality of diamond settings adapted to hold a respective plurality of diamonds in a suspended position. Each of the diamond settings is connected to the article through a pair of loop rings and connecting loops. The loop rings and connecting loops facilitate oscillating motion to the diamond setting for a predefined amount of time responsive to involuntary movement or reflexes of the wearer's body. The diamond setting includes an arcuate shaped cup member that adds weight to the diamond setting to help prolong the oscillating motion of the diamond setting. The oscillating motion of the diamond setting facilitates the diamond to oscillate relative to the diamond setting without manual movement of the article from the wearer.

  • Publication number: 20130244569
Abstract: Systems and methods for transparent handovers of mobile relays on high-speed vehicles. In an embodiment, a base station of a wireless communications network transmits identification data to a mobile relay on a high-speed vehicle. The identification data identifies base stations which are configured for transparent handovers. The network also receives data indicative of a scheduled path of the high-speed vehicle, which it uses to select a target base station for communication with the mobile relay. Once the target base station has been selected, the network begins servicing the mobile relay from the second base station, without requiring any measurement values from the mobile relay and without handover signaling.

  • Patent number: 8537761
Abstract: The present invention provides methods for incorporating and operating a mesh base station in a wireless network. The mesh base station may utilize common wireless resource allocations as a corresponding wireless base station while transmitting to wireless subscriber stations during the same time period. The mesh base station obtains a data packet from the wireless base station over a backhaul link during a scheduled time period and transmits the data packet to the designated wireless subscriber station during another scheduled time period. The wireless base station and the mesh base station may also receive data packets from wireless subscriber stations during a same time period. A wireless network may be configured with two mesh base stations at an approximate boundary of two adjacent sector coverage areas, where a coverage area is supported by a wireless base station and each mesh base station supports wireless subscriber stations within a coverage radius.

  • Patent number: 8539087
Abstract: A method for defining and managing a composite service group for a cluster based computer system is disclosed. The method includes instantiating a plurality of application units on a cluster based computer system, wherein the application units implement a business service. The method further includes receiving a composite service group definition, wherein a composite service group enumerates application units, out of the plurality of application units, that implement the business service, and generating a consolidated status of the composite service group. The business service is then started (online)/stopped (offline)/migrated/failed-over/failed-back in accordance with the consolidated status, as a single unit, by using the composite service group.
