Abstract: A resource allocation of multiple compressed AV streams delivered over the Internet is disclosed that achieves end-to-end optimal quality through a multimedia streaming TCP-friendly transport (MSTFP) protocol that adaptively estimates the network bandwidth while smoothing the sending rate. Resources allocated dynamically according to a media encoding distortion and network degradation algorithm. A scheme is also disclosed for dynamically estimating the available network bandwidth for streaming of objects, such as MPEG4 multiple video objects, in conjunction with the MSTFP protocol. The scheme can account for packet-loss rates to minimize end-to-end distortion for media delivery.

Abstract: Liquid electrographic toners are derived from organosols incorporating amphipathic copolymeric binder particles that include polymerizable, crystallizable compounds chemically incorporated into the dispersed portion of the copolymer. The invention further provides organosols that include amphipathic copolymeric binder particles that include a dispersed (D) portion and a solvated (S) portion, wherein the D portion has a high glass transition temperature, and at least one polymerizable, crystallizable compound is chemically incorporated into the D portion, the S portion, or both the D and S portion of the copolymer. Methods of making and electrographically printing liquid toners derived from these organosols are also described. The invention is particularly suited for preparing liquid toners for electrophotographic printing.

Abstract: A phase change composition comprises: a matrix comprising an organofunctional silicone wax, and a thermally conductive filler. The composition can be used as a thermal interface material in electronic devices. The composition is formulated to have any desired phase change temperature.

Abstract: The voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) in a frequency synthesizer using a phase-locked loop (PLL) is calibrated digitally during power up. The VCO has a coarse frequency control and a fine frequency control. The coarse control is a digital phase-locked loop to quantize the broad frequency range into limited number of frequency steps with a clock frequency divided from the VCO frequency, and to hold the phase-locked dc control voltage for the fine control. By limiting the number of frequency steps and clocking at a divided frequency of the VCO, the coarse control is speeded up. The fine control is [connected to the charge pump output as in] a regular PLL. By searching for the optimal control setting, the center frequency of the VCO is trimmed close to the wanted frequency for the PLL to lock. This allows small VCO gain without losing the tolerance of process and temperature variations. As a result, the PLL phase noise performance is improved.

Abstract: A communications system provides customized messages based on presence and preference information by collecting presence information and preference information on a plurality of subscribers. The presence information includes information on the availability of a subscriber, while the preference information includes policies for different priority levels of callers. In response to unavailability of a called subscriber for a communication session, the communications manager transmits a customized response to the caller that is generated based on the presence information and the preference information of the called subscriber.

Abstract: Automated methods for sample preparation for amplification of nucleic acid samples to prepare target for hybridization to microarrays are disclosed. Automated methods for hybridizing target to microarrays, washing and staining microarrays are also disclosed. Improved conditions for hybridization and for storage and scanning of arrays with hybridized target are also disclosed.

Abstract: Compounds originally isolated from marine fungi are useful as antifouling (antibacterial and/or anti-larval settlement) agents. The compounds are 3-chloro-2, 5-dihydroxy benzyl alcohol, cyclo-(Pro-Phe),3-methyl-N-(2-phenylethyl) butanamide, and succinic acid. The compounds are non-toxic or low-toxic. They can be used alone or in combination, as active ingredients for making environment-friendly antifouling formulations/coatings.

Abstract: Positive liquid electrographic toner compositions are provided comprising a liquid carrier having a Kauri-Butanol number less than about 30 mL and a plurality of positively charged toner particles dispersed in the liquid carrier. The toner particles comprise a polymeric binder comprising at least one amphipathic graft copolymer comprising one or more S material portions and one or more D material portions. The toner composition additionally comprises a charge control adjuvant that is an acid or a base. These compositions have surprising bulk conductivity and charge per mass properties, particularly as the toner particles are depleted from the toner composition during printing operations.

Abstract: An antenna for receiving and/or transmitting circularly and/or linearly polarized RF signals includes a radiation element, a ground plane, a dielectric substrate, and a feed line. The radiation element is disposed on a pane of glass. The radiation element defines a slot having a first leg and a second leg forming the shape of a cross for generating the circular and/or linear polarization. The cross-shaped slot includes a center point. The ground plane is disposed substantially parallel to and spaced from the radiation element. The dielectric substrate is sandwiched between the radiation element and the ground plane. The feed line extends within the dielectric substrate and is electromagnetically coupled with the radiation element and the ground plane. The feed line terminates at a distal end short of the center point of the slot. That is, the feed line does not cross the center point. The antenna is compact in size and generally conformal to the pane of glass.

Abstract: A household laundry appliance is provided for washing and drying individual pieces of laundry. The appliance includes a bin for holding laundry, wash and dry stations, and a robotic feeder mechanism to automatically convey laundry from the bin to the processing stations. The wash stations include a spray station for spraying the garments with a cleaning solution, and an ultrasonic station for applying ultrasonic vibrations to the garments. Rinse and extraction stations are provided upstream from the drying station to rinse the garments and then extract water from the garments. The garments are continuously transported through the appliance by a series of mesh conveyor belts between which the garments are sandwiched. The drying station includes fans for blowing heated air past the clothing to drive moisture out of the clothing. The temperature and velocity of the air may be adjusted to accommodate different garment materials and dampness.

Abstract: The subject invention relates to systems and methods for automatically testing and stressing computer components on a plurality of computer systems. In one aspect, a system is provided to facilitate software testing of a computing environment. The system includes one or more profiles that describe software actions related to operations of a computing system, wherein the actions can be specified from usage data gathered or modeled from various sources. A weighting component specifies likelihoods of the software actions in order to more closely test or model actual operations of the computing system, whereby a test selection module employs the likelihoods to determine software tests that exercise the software actions in order to predict future behavior of the computing system.

A server is linked to the shared web browser of each client and is configured to monitor the transmission of the web site URL request from the shared web browser of one client of the group and to direct the request to the shared web browser of other clients in the group. A gatekeeper module is configured to first mask the identity of each client's computer on the shared browser. This prevents the web site from retrieving any client's actual identifier. Second, the gatekeeper is also configured to create a same temporary identifier for each client when any client logs on to the web site so that the same web page is displayed for all the clients in the group.

Abstract: An extended partial least squares (EPLS) approach for the condition monitoring of industrial processes is described. This EPLS approach provides two statistical monitoring charts to detect abnormal process behaviour as well as contribution charts to diagnose this behaviour. A theoretical analysis of the EPLS monitoring charts is provided, together with two application studies to show that the EPLS approach is either more sensitive or provides easier interpretation than conventional PLS.
