Abstract: The invention provides new chlorine-substituted nitro-para-phenylenediamines of the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which are identical or different, denote hydrogen, a lower alkyl group or a monohydroxylated or polyhydroxylated alkyl group and n is an integer from 2 to 4, and the cosmetically acceptable salts of these compounds. These compounds can be used for hair dyeing.

Abstract: Novel compounds of the general formula ##STR1## wherein Z represents a substituted lower alkyl radical; each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl or a substituted lower alkyl identical with or different from Z and the functional groups NO.sub.2 and NR.sub.1 R.sub.2 can occupy all ring positions in relation to OZ, with the exception that if Z is .beta.-hydroxyethyl, --NO.sub.2 is in the 4 position and --N(R.sub.1)(R.sub.2) is in the 2 position then either R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is other than hydrogen.The novel compounds are for dyeing human hair in a variety of yellow shades. The compounds of formula (I) may be used as aqueous or water-alcohol solutions to form dye compositions for dyeing human hair.

Abstract: The invention relates to compositions for hair dyeing which contain, as the oxidative dye-stuff, in a cosmetically acceptable medium, para-phenylenediamine and ortho-aminophenol, or their cosmetically acceptable salts, in a ratio para-phenylenediamine/ortho-aminophenol which is such that, after the addition of an equal volume of hydrogen peroxide of 20 volumes strength and application to the hair for 30 minutes, no Bandrowsky's base can be detected in the oxidizing dyeing composition.The compositions according to the invention make it possible to impart background colorations to the hair without the formation of Bandrowsky's base.

Abstract: The invention relates to hair-dyeing compositions based on para-phenylenediamine. These compositions contain, as the oxidation dyestuff, para-phenylenediamine and one or more para-phenylenediamines of the formula ##STR1## in which R denotes alkyl or hydroxyalkyl and R' denotes a hydroxyalkyl group, and also their cosmetically acceptable salts, in a molar ratio para-phenylenediamine/compound(s) of the formula (I), expressed in terms of free bases, which is such that, after the addition of an equal volume of hydrogen peroxide of 20 volumes strength and application to the hair for 30 minutes, no Bandrowsky's base is detected in the oxidizing dyeing composition.These compositions make it possible to obtain natural background colorations, ranging from black to light chestnut, of very good quality.

Abstract: New dyestuffs are described for keratinic fibers which produce particularly luminous shades without the need for an oxidizing agent. These dyestuffs have the formula: ##STR1## or a tautomeric form thereof wherein each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.4, which may be identical or different, represents a member selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxy having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, acylamino and ureido;each of R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which may be identical or different, represents a member selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxy having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, amino, N-alkylamino, N-(hydroxyalkyl)-amino, N-(carbamyl-alkyl)-amino, acylamino and ureido, each of said alkyls containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms;each of R.sub.5 and R.sub.6, which may be identical or different, represents a member selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms and alkoxy containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, with the proviso that when R.sub.5 and R.sub.

Abstract: Novel meta-phenylenediamines are provided for use as couplers with dye bases in hair dye compositions. These meta-phenylenediamines have the formula: ##STR1## in which n is 2, 3 or 4. Their acid addition salts may also be used.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition for application to the hair contains either (a) at least one compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein:R is hydrogen, alkyl or halogen; andR' is hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, carbamylalkyl, mesylaminoalkyl, aminoalkyl, acylaminoalkyl, monoalkylaminoalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, piperidinoalkyl, morpholinoalkyl, carbamoyl, acyl or carbalkoxy; or (b) at least one of said compounds having formula I above and at least one benzene or heterocyclic oxidation base. The invention also relates to new couplers of formula I as well as to new indo compounds which result from the coupling of said compounds with an oxidation base. These cosmetic compositions for application to the hair are useful in direct dyeing, oxidation dyeing or simultaneous oxidation and direct dyeing of said hair.

Abstract: The invention resides in the use of the compounds having the formula given below, or an acid salt thereof, as couplers in dyeing compositions for keratin fibres which contain an oxidation base: ##STR1## in which formula n is equal to 2, 3 or 4 and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are identical or different and represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
