Abstract: 2,5-diamino-1,4-benzoquinones are used in the production of hair dye compositions and can be prepared by condensing a corresponding 3-amino-4-methoxy phenol derivative on one of a corresponding hydroxy aniline or phenylenediamine derivative, a corresponding benzoquinone imine derivative or a corresponding nitroso derivative.

Abstract: Couplers having the general formula (I): ##STR1## or the acid salts thereof in which formula R is either(a) hydrogen or(b) a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or(c) a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 hydroxyalkyl, andZ is either(a) hydroxyalkyl, or(b) alkoxyalkyl in which the alkoxy group contains 1 to 2 carbon atoms, or(c) mesylaminoalkyl, or(d) acetylaminoalkyl, or(e) ureidoalkyl, or(f) carbethoxyaminoalkylthe alkyl groups in the radicals constituting Z comprising from 2 to 3 carbon atoms andZ is not hydroxyethyl when R is hydrogen.

Abstract: Indoaniline of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 represent alkyl; R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 each independently represent hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, acylamino, ureido or carbalkoxyamino and R.sub.5 can also represent amino, alkylmaino, hydroxy alkylamino or carbamylalkylamino, the alkyl and alkoxy groups above being able to contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms and the acyl group from 2 to 7 carbon atoms with the condition that R.sub.5 does not represent hydrogen, chlorine, methyl or methoxy and when R.sub.5 represents acetylamino, R.sub.6 does not represent hydrogen; it being understood that the above compounds can be present in the tautomeric form of that represented by formula (I). The indoaniline is usefully employed in dye copositions for keratinic fibers, especially living human hair.

Abstract: A two-stage process for producing indoanilines includes oxidizing in a first stage a paraphenylene diamine to a quinone diimine and in a second stage condensing the said quinone diimine with a phenolic compound. The resulting indoanilines can be incorporated into a dye composition for keratinous fibers, especially, human hair.

Abstract: Diphenylamine which is N-monosubstituted in the 4'-position carries at least one acylamino group at the 2- or 6-position. The diphenylamine is usefully employed in a composition for dyeing keratinic fibers.

Abstract: A dye for keratinic material comprises a water-soluble cationic polymer having a molecular weight ranging between about 800 and 10,000 and having secondary, tertiary or quaternary ammonium amine groups wherein said amine groups are either a part of, or aid in the direct or indirect linking to the polymer chain, an aryl or arylaliphatic chromophore or chromogen group carrying compound, with the proviso that when the main chain of the polymer has amine groups derived from the said chromophore or chromogen group carrying compound, the said main chain must also have at least 10 percent aliphatic amine groups relative to the total number of amine groups of the said chain.

Abstract: A compound of the formula A-NR--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --NHR' wherein R and R' are hydrogen, n is a whole number between 2 and 6 inclusive and A is selected from (1) anthraquinonyl per se wherein NR-(CH.sub.2).sub.n --NHR' is in position 2 or (2) anthraquinonyl of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from hydrogen and lower alkyl, and the NR--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --NHR' chain is in position 5. The compound is useful as a basic dye in coloring the hair.
