Abstract: There are disclosed hybrid proteins comprising at least one signal sequence; at least one DNA binding domain; and at least one cell penetrating peptide (CPP) domain. In embodiments the CPP domain is a TAT domain, and the DNA binding domain is a HU domain. There is also disclosed the use of the hybrid proteins to introduce exogenous DNA into target cells, and methods for introducing exogenous DNA into target cells using the hybrid proteins.

Abstract: There are disclosed nucleic acid vectors for use in both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. In embodiments the vectors comprise a prokaryotic expression cassette and in embodiments comprise a eukaryotic expression cassette. In embodiments the vectors encode a hybrid protein comprising a DNA binding domain, a CPP domain and a signal sequence.

Abstract: A combination axe, sledge hammer and pick (CASHP) that is particularly designed for use by firefighters. The CASHP includes a front end and a rear end. The front end has an upper section that functions as an axe blade and the lower section functions as a sledge hammer. The rear section includes a pick that can be utilized for a variety of functions. By incorporating three tools in a single structure the weight that a firefighter carries is lessened. Thus, reducing fatigue and the time that is required to cut through an obstruction to reach fire victims.

Abstract: In a mobile telecommunications network including at least a first type of radio access network and a second type of radio access network and a mobile terminal, a method of establishing a voice communication with the mobile terminal including: receiving a voice communication request in relation to the mobile terminal on the second radio access network type; determining a parameter associated with a terminal characteristic; and using the parameter to determine whether to establish the voice communication on the first type of radio access network or maintain the voice communication on the second type of radio access network. Preferably the determined parameter is a parameter relating to a terminal type for the mobile terminal, and is determined from the terminal's IMEI.

Abstract: The present invention provides a repeater system, comprising: first transceiver circuitry, for establishing communications with a base station of a cellular communications system; second transceiver circuitry, for establishing communications with a wireless device; and a single antenna system, comprising a plurality of antenna elements. Signals to and from the first transceiver circuitry and the second transceiver circuitry can each be received and transmitted through the single antenna system. The single antenna system includes beam definition circuitry, in which amplitudes of signals between the first transceiver circuitry and each antenna element, and between the second transceiver circuitry and each antenna element, can be adjusted independently, such that different beam patterns can be provided for the first transceiver circuitry and the second transceiver circuitry.

Abstract: A method of controlling an attach procedure of a device 1 to a telecommunications network 140 following receipt of an attach rejection from the telecommunications network, the method including assessing the authenticity of the attach rejection, and selecting a criterion for performing a subsequent attach attempt by the device to the network in dependence upon the authenticity assessment. The authenticity may be assessed by determining whether the rejection was received by an authenticated communication link or a signed message. The authenticity may also be assessed by checking that the cause of the reject is consistent with information held by the device. The selected criterion may be power cycling of the device or the passage of a time period.

Abstract: An antenna system has multiple antenna elements, and multiple connection points allowing multiple users to connect to the antenna system. Each connection point is connected to each of the antenna elements through respective amplitude control circuitry, with the beam shape for each user being controlled by the amplitude control circuitry in the paths between that user's connection point and the antenna elements. The beam shapes for the different users are then independently controllable.

Abstract: A mobile radio communication system and method of initiating a circuit-switched service at a mobile station over a System Architecture Evolution (SAE) core network using packet-switched communications between the mobile station and the SAE core network is provided. The method includes communicating service handling information between a Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) and the mobile station through a Mobility Management Entity (MME) of the SAE core network; sending instructions from the MSC for setting up the circuit-switched service through a Media Gateway, coupled to at least one network external to the SAE core network; providing packet-switched addressing information for the Media Gateway to the mobile station; and initiating the circuit-switched service at the mobile station over the SAE core network and through the Media Gateway.

Abstract: The invention describes an apparatus (10) for applying marking to perpendicular surfaces (15, 17) of an object (16) being conveyed along a line (11). A single marking head (12) is mounted on a positioning arm (14) which directs the marking head across the direction of the conveyor while applying marking to a first surface (15) of the object. The marking head is then rotated through 90° and held at one side of the conveyor so that a second, perpendicular, surface (17) of the object can be marked as the object is conveyed past the marking head. The invention uses the kinetic energy of the moving object to effect movement of the marking head.

Abstract: A swarm can develop around a piece of content. The swarm can include the original content, changes to the original content, the persons contributing the changes, and metadata, such as comments contributed by members of the swarm. A swarm can also include statistics generated about the content, such as the size of the swarm, the growth and/or death rates of the swarm, the longevity of the swarm, the intensity of the swarm, the persistence of the swarm, and the direction of the swarm. Swarms and their behaviors can be used to validate or invalidate content.

Abstract: A mobile telecommunications network and method of operation that includes establishing a first user plane connection between a telecommunications device registered with the network and a network gateway device of the network via a first access point; providing the telecommunications device with a token using the first user plane connection; establishing a second user plane connection between the telecommunications device and the network gateway device via a second access point by using the token information to validate the telecommunications device; and, subsequent to establishment of and corresponding to the second user plane connection, establishing a control plane connection between the telecommunications device and the network gateway device via the second access point.
