  • Patent number: 8694406
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an alternative method for gauging market participant behavior, which is identified herein as “Market Barometer.” In one embodiment, Market Barometer is based on the recent performance ranks of particular equity strategy indices as compared to their historical ranks. Significant deviations from historical ranks is a predictor of market performance over subsequent near term time periods, for example, a subsequent month and, in turn, these deviations can be used to estimate the current market expected return. Empirical tests reveal that expected market returns vary over time in line with Market Barometer readings.

  • Publication number: 20140064855
Abstract: A method and connecting apparatus for attaching a pipeline termination assembly to a subsea structure. The pipeline termination assembly has a pivot axis member and the subsea structure has one or more capture slots to receive it. The pivot axis member is captured in the capture slot, the slot allowing vertical movement of the pipeline termination assembly. The pipeline termination assembly is rotated about the pivot axis to assume a horizontal position. In the horizontal position, the capture slot permits horizontal movement of the pipeline termination assembly. A capture device mounted on the subsea structure provides the capture slots. At least a part of the capture device is moved with respect to the subsea structure to retain the pivot axis member in the capture slot on rotating the pipeline termination assembly about the pivot axis.

  • Publication number: 20130109002
Abstract: An educational virtual space facilitates interactions between teachers (including administrators and/or parents) and students (including students taught at home, at school, and elsewhere, as well as any other users). A teacher interface module enables a teacher to guide students through a curriculum of components of educational content within and/or outside of the educational space. Individualized sequences of components are adaptable, e.g. based on student performance information. Student progress is monitored and represented graphically through the teacher interface module.

  • Publication number: 20130100650
Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) retrofit downlight light module (DLM) having a housing with an LED downlighting module containing a lighting exit port and connected to a reflector and trim ring having an illumination outlet. The DLM is inserted into an access hole after the existing fixture has been removed. By inserting the DLM into the access hole, a retention device compresses on contact with the entry surface surrounding the hole perimeter. Subsequent to the pivot point of the retention device passing the first surface, the retention device begins to apply a frictional force to the hole perimeter, thereby retaining the DLM within the access hole, without need of tools during installation.

  • Publication number: 20130031633
Abstract: A system and methods for detecting intrusions in the operation of a computer system comprises a sensor configured to gather information regarding the operation of the computer system, to format the information in a data record having a predetermined format, and to transmit the data in the predetermined data format. A data warehouse is configured to receive the data record from the sensor in the predetermined data format and to store the data in a SQL database. A detection model generator is configured to request data records from the data warehouse in the predetermined data format, to generate an intrusion detection model based on said data records, and to transmit the intrusion detection model to the data warehouse according to the predetermined data format. A detector is configured to receive a data record in the predetermined data format from the sensor and to classify the data record in real-time as one of normal operation and an attack based on said intrusion detection model.

  • Patent number: 8352347
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an asset classification system based on investment strategy. The system determines a number for performance measures and strategy classifications. These measures indicate, in one configuration, an extent to which a security or manager is outperforming or attempting to outperform a benchmark and how successful the security or manager has been based on historic performance data.

  • Publication number: 20120268942
Abstract: A thermally conducting reflector is employed to serve as dual-use thermal conductor and light reflector for collimating a multi-chip LED array. The thermally conducting reflector consists of a heat sink, item, a reflector made of a thermally conducting and optically reflective material such as aluminum, item, a transparent cover, item, and lamp base that is electrically isolating, item and a common lighting electrical connector, item, illustrated as an Edison type screw base. The novelty in the present invention is how the items are structured to work together to dissipate heat.

  • Publication number: 20110299095
Abstract: Shadow sensing apparatus for measuring the cross-section and/or position of a tool such as a welding tool at its intersection with a sensor plane, the apparatus having three sensor channels, each comprising a linear array of discrete light sources and a linear light sensor opposite the light sources to receive light emitted therefrom. Each of the channels intersects each other to define a common sensor plane. The light sources are actuatable individually to direct light towards the tool and the respective sensor is arranged to sense the shadow cast thereon by the tool. The cross-section and/or position of the tool or other subject can be determined from up to n×C shadow images, where n is the number of light sources in each of the arrays and C is the number of channels.

  • Patent number: 7801273
Abstract: The field of the invention is diagnostic and interventional radiology and the invention is a dose indicator for use in a system for performing radiological procedures using ionizing radiation, for indicating a dose of radiation received in an area of skin by a subject during the radiological procedure, in which a zone is displayed which is representative of the extent of the area of skin exposed, and in which is a value of dose is displayed which is associated with the zone. The value of dose is representative of the dose of radiation received in the area of skin exposed during the procedure. The display is easily and quickly understood allowing the user of the system to swiftly understand the skin dose accrued by the patient. The use of zones provides an intuitive display.
