  • Publication number: 20090003527
Abstract: The field of the invention is diagnostic and interventional radiology and the invention is a dose indicator for use in a system for performing radiological procedures using ionizing radiation, for indicating a dose of radiation received in an area of skin by a subject during the radiological procedure, in which a zone is displayed which is representative of the extent of the area of skin exposed, and in which is a value of dose is displayed which is associated with the zone. The value of dose is representative of the dose of radiation received in the area of skin exposed during the procedure. The display is easily and quickly understood allowing the user of the system to swiftly understand the skin dose accrued by the patient. The use of zones provides an intuitive display.

  • Publication number: 20070037219
Abstract: A rhesus monkey bombesin receptor subtype-3 has been isolated, cloned and sequenced. This receptor is characteristic of the G-protein family of receptors. Isolated rhesus monkey bombesin receptor subtype-3 may be used to screen and identify novel bombesin receptor modulators that may contribute to the regulation of endocrine processes, metabolism, or the cell cycle. Such compounds may be used in the treatment of conditions that result from deregulated expression of bombesin receptor subtype-3.

  • Patent number: 7036667
Abstract: A container is provided for shipping and storing a pre-wetted and pre-conditioned microfluidic “sipper” chip. The container contains both dry compartments and wet compartments. A base contains a fluid-filled reservoir configured to house the capillaries. The opening of the reservoir is sealed with an O-ring. The plastic mount of the chip rests on the base in a dry compartment. The upper surface of the chip contains several wells containing fluid. A gasket is provided with plugs configured to be disposed within and seal the wells. Alternatively, the wells are first sealed with a foil film adhered to the well openings with an adhesive and a gasket is disposed between the foil and a cover, which is removably attached to the base. When the cover is closed, the gasket and O-ring seal the wet compartments to prevent leakage and to slow evaporation.

  • Publication number: 20050069883
Abstract: The present invention features MCH-1R antagonist binding proteins. MCH-1R antagonist binding proteins described herein are based on an MCH-1R having one or more alterations to the second intracellular loop or carboxy terminus that render the receptor substantially inactive to MCH binding. An MCH-1R antagonist binding protein can bind MCH-1R antagonists, but does not exhibit high affinity MCH binding and is not activated by the MCH.

  • Publication number: 20030149235
Abstract: Disclosed is an agent which promotes the selective uptake of material by particular cell types. In particular, disclosed are targeting peptides which promote uptake of a material by for example endothelial cells. Also disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a targeting peptide in association with a vehicle and a method of targeting a material to a cell, comprising bringing into association the targeting peptide according to the present invention with the material to be targeted to form a complex and exposing the complex to a cell(s).

  • Publication number: 20030001307
Abstract: A pipe has a barrier layer of metal foil between an inner core and an outer cover each bonded to the barrier layer by a tie layer formed integrally with the core and cover. The tie layer of the core is activated by heating prior to applying the barrier layer and bonding may be enhanced by applying a thin layer of the tie layer material to the heat activated tie layer.

  • Patent number: 6276761
Abstract: An air braking system of a vehicle has a compressor, non-return valve, manifold, electrically actuable demand valve, an air consumer circuit. An auxiliary circuit connects the manifold to the consumer circuit via an electrically actuable valve and non-return valve. In the event of electrical failure air under pressure can be supplied to the consumer circuit via the auxiliary circuit. In another aspect a plurality of consumer circuits are provided. These circuits may be charged from the compressor via the manifold, or interconnected via the manifold independently of the compressor. This arrangement permits more flexible compressor operation and/or a greater reserve in the event of failure of the pressure source.

  • Patent number: 4070575
Abstract: A portion of a beam of light directed towards a flow of particulate material is interrupted with an edge such that the edge casts a shadow across the material. The shadow profile is sensed and a signal indicative of the sensed shadow profile is derived and monitored as a function of flow velocity to determine the volume of flow.
