  • Publication number: 20190187456
Abstract: Provided herein is a modulating retroreflective multilayer film comprising retroreflective elements, a piezoelectric layer, a photovoltaic layer, and an energy storage device. The stacked and transparent layered configuration of the film allows the retroreflective elements and the photovoltaic layer to be simultaneously illuminated by a narrow beam. The low power piezoelectric layer and the energy harvesting of the photovoltaic layer allow the retroreflector to be energetically self-sufficient and suitable for remote deployment. The flexible properties of the component layers allow the retroreflector to be adhered to nonplanar or irregular surfaces for the purpose of labeling and tagging.

  • Publication number: 20190190631
Abstract: System and methods are described for automatic pairing a plurality of devices within a vehicle. Based on a seat mapping stored within a server, a seat display unit and its allocated peripherals can be paired in sequence, one-by-one. Thus, a first seat display unit and its allocated peripherals can be powered on. Then, the peripherals can be paired with the first seat display unit, and the first seat display unit and the allocated peripherals can be powered down. Once this is complete, the next seat display unit and its allocated peripherals can be powered on, paired, and then powered down before continuing in sequence until all peripherals are paired with their allocated seat display units.

  • Publication number: 20190140766
Abstract: The subject method for delivering power to a moving target wirelessly via electromagnetic time reversal can find applications in wireless electrical transmission to portable devices, wireless heating of portable devices, novel wirelessly powered accelerometers, hyperthermic treatment of cancers, and many other applications. The subject non-linear time reversed electromagnetic waves based wireless power transmission (WPT) system targets either a single linear or non-linear object where a selective targeting between two diodes has been demonstrated simultaneously with different degrees of non-linearity in a three-dimensional ray-chaotic billiard model. A dual-purpose rectenna with harmonic generation for wireless power transfer by non-linear time-reversal has been designed for the subject system using the Schottky diode.

  • Publication number: 20190063962
Abstract: There is provided an optical fiber for providing increased sensitivity in sensing applications by increasing the Rayleigh backscatter coefficient of the fiber while maintaining tolerable levels of signal attenuation (e.g., less than 20% over 10 km). Such an optical fiber comprises a core, a first cladding layer and a second cladding layer. The core comprises at least one core dopant selected from the range of: germanium, phosphorus, aluminium, boron, fluorine. The at least one core dopant is used to increase the core refractive index and enhance the core Rayleigh backscatter coefficient. The first cladding layer comprises at least one dopant selected from: germanium, phosphorus, aluminium, boron, fluorine; wherein at least one first cladding layer dopant is used to reduce the first cladding layer refractive index. The signal attenuation generated in the fiber is less than 20% over 1 km.
