  • Publication number: 20230046946
Abstract: An apparatus (for example, a decoder) may determine that affine mode is enabled for a video sequence. The apparatus may determine whether an affine mode adaptive motion vector difference resolution (AMVR) enablement indicator is present in a parameter set associated with the video sequence based on a value of an AMVR enablement indicator. If the value of the AMVR enablement indicator indicates AMVR mode is enabled for the video sequence, the apparatus may determine that the affine mode AMVR enablement indicator is present in the parameter set associated with the video sequence. If the value of the AMVR enablement indicator indicates AMVR mode is disabled for the video sequence, the apparatus may determine that the affine mode AMVR enablement indicator is not present in the parameter set associated with the video sequence. The apparatus may decode the video sequence accordingly.

  • Patent number: 11563975
Abstract: At least a method and an apparatus are presented for efficiently encoding or decoding video. For example, a prediction block for a current block is obtained. A reconstructed neighboring block of the prediction block is obtained. Filtering is performed on a boundary between the prediction block and the reconstructed neighboring block. At the encoder side, the prediction residual is obtained as the difference between the filtered prediction block and the current block, and then encoded. At the decoder side, the prediction residual is added to the filtered prediction block to reconstruct the current block.

  • Patent number: 11563970
Abstract: A block of video data that is split into sub-blocks forms a prediction for that sub-block using predictions from neighboring sub-blocks such that a current prediction for the sub-block is combined with weighted versions of the neighboring predictions. The neighboring sub-blocks motion vectors are checked to determine whether they are different than the motion vector of the sub-block being predicted. If so, than that corresponding neighboring sub-block is used to generate the prediction of the current sub-block. In an embodiment, two lines or two columns of pixels within a sub-block are used in forming the prediction for the current sub-block when the size of the block containing the sub-block is under a particular size.

  • Patent number: 11553175
Abstract: Video signal coding and decoding functions can generate lists of potential candidates to use in coding and decoding, for example, predictors. Video signal coding component candidate undergo operations before potential inclusion in candidate lists. • Publication number: 20230007239
Abstract: A video encoder or decoder processes portions of video using virtual temporal affine motion candidates. Under the general aspects, virtual temporal affine candidates are created using only the classical temporal motion buffer information, avoiding the storage of additional affine parameters in a temporal motion buffer. A motion field for encoding or decoding a video block is generated based on the virtual temporal affine candidates. In one embodiment, collocated motion candidates are rescaled by adjusting the picture order count of the determined motion field. In another embodiment, resolution adaptation is performed to enable a current motion buffer to correspond to a reference motion buffer.

  • Patent number: 11539947
Abstract: Motion information for an internal sub-block of a larger block can be derived for use in encoding or decoding the video block or a coding unit by using the motion information for sub-blocks on the left or top edge of the coding block. The left column of edge sub-blocks and the top row of sub-blocks has motion information, such as motion vectors, derived using such techniques as template matching. The motion vectors of these edge sub-blocks are used in deriving the motion vectors of internal sub-blocks, which leads to better prediction and improved coding efficiency. In another embodiment, other motion information for internal sub-blocks is derived from corresponding information of the edge sub-blocks.

  • Publication number: 20220377318
Abstract: To encode a coding unit in the inter modes, there exist multiple inter modes that signal the motion information using a Motion Vector Predictor (MW) list. The MW lists for different coding modes include spatial predictors. In one embodiment, for all coding modes that use MVP lists, the top spatial predictor is first added to the motion vector predictor list before the left spatial predictor. In another embodiment, a subset of coding modes adds the top spatial predictor before the left spatial predictor, and another subset of coding modes adds the left spatial predictor before the top spatial predictor. For example, all merge modes add the top spatial predictor first, and all AMVP modes add the left spatial predictor first. In another example, all non-sub-block modes add the top spatial predictor first, and all sub-block modes add the left spatial predictor first.

  • Publication number: 20220334452
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining a set-point voltage for a piezoelectric actuator system to achieve a desired optical response of the piezoelectric actuator system, such as an optical power. The method is based on a mathematical model, OP(V,T,n) describing a relationship between the applied voltage and the optical response. Calibration and use of the model involves determining a transition time count value. During use, e.g. at given intervals, the model is updated based on actual values of the temperature and the transition time count value. The set-point voltage required to achieve a desired optical response is determined based on the updated model and the set-point voltage is applied to the piezoelectric actuator.

  • Publication number: 20220264146
Abstract: PROF (Prediction Refinement with Optical Flow) and BDOF (Bi-directional Optical Flow) use the optical flow model to Nprovide sample-wise motion compensation refinement. In one implementation, to calculate the spatial gradients in BDOF, an extended region s generated around a block to be coded. To simplify the computation, BDOF may use the same padding operations as in PROF, namely, a padding sample is copied from the nearest integer neighbor in the reference picture. BDOF and PROF can also be used together when sub-block based affine motion-compensated prediction is used. BDOF can be applied after PROF generates new prediction blocks, or BDOF can use the spatial gradients in the original prediction blocks to re-use the computations with PROF. In addition, BDOF and PROF operations can be combined, and the prediction adjustment will be directly based on the spatial gradients in the original prediction blocks.
