  • Publication number: 20150163622
Abstract: It is disclosed to insert an anti-whitened data block, which is obtainable from a specific data block by anti-whitening, into a data block that is to be whitened by a whitening to yield a whitened data block, wherein the anti-whitening compensates the whitening so that the whitened data block will comprise the specific data block in non-whitened form. It is further disclosed to output, in a first operating mode, an output data block generated by one of whitening and de-whitening an input data block in its entirety, and outputting, in a second operating mode, one of: an output data block generated by one of whitening and de-whitening all parts of an input data block under exclusion of a specific data block contained in the input data block.

  • Patent number: 8965284
Abstract: A system for providing positioning-related information within wireless communication signals. For example, an apparatus (e.g., acting as a tracker) may receive one or more messages advertising the presence of another apparatus (e.g., acting as a target). The advertisement messages may further comprise information indicating the availability of positioning-related information from the target apparatus. The tracker device may then determine, based on the received information, that positioning-related interaction with the target apparatus is available. If determined to be available, the tracker and target may interact with each other in order to initiate positioning-related information transmission. After receiving at least one message comprising positioning-related information from the target apparatus, the tracker apparatus may then determine at least one of a relative direction towards or from the target apparatus based on the received positioning-related information.

  • Publication number: 20140295880
Abstract: A system for implementing a positioning functionality. An apparatus (e.g. a directional transceiver) (706) may receive a signal (704) for positioning and measure characteristics associated with the received signal (704). If the directional transceiver (706) then determines that the received signal (704) comprises calculator identifier information, the apparatus may forward the measured characteristics based on the calculator identifier information. Otherwise, the directional transceiver (706) may forward the measured characteristics to a buffer (712). From the perspective of the apparatus (700) transmitting the signal (704) for positioning, a determination may be made as to whether calculator identifier information is known. If determined to be known, the transmitting apparatus (700) may include the calculator identifier information in the signal (704) for positioning. Otherwise, the other apparatus may transmit the signal (704) for positioning without any calculator identifier information.

  • Publication number: 20140194141
Abstract: A system for estimating apparatus position based on different types of positioning information. In at least one example implementation, an apparatus may sense wireless signals (802), and if the wireless signals are determined to comprise angular data meeting a certain criteria (804), the position of the apparatus may be estimated based on the angular data (806). Otherwise, if the apparatus determines that the wireless signals comprise at least one of angular data not meeting the certain criteria (814) or proximity data (816), the position of the apparatus may be estimated based on proximity data derived from the sensed wireless signals (822).

  • Publication number: 20120257604
Abstract: A system for providing positioning information within a wireless communication signal. An example process may start by positioning resources being activated in an apparatus. Activation of the positioning resources may occur automatically, in response to user interaction, etc. The apparatus may then engage in a discovery process via wireless communication in order to identify other apparatuses within communication range that are enabled to transmit positioning information. Upon discovering another apparatus, the apparatus may interact with the other apparatus in order to determine a location for the other apparatus. For example, the apparatus may transmit one or more messages comprising a request for positioning information from the other apparatus, and may in turn receive one or more messages from the other apparatus comprising positioning information. The apparatus may then utilize the positioning information to determine its position (e.g., relative to the other apparatus).

  • Patent number: 8264408
Abstract: A system used for calibrating a direction-finding system. A device may include a signal receiver array. The signal receiver array may be utilized to determine the direction of arrival for signals emitted by other devices, and therefore, may be used to resolve the direction towards another device using the received signal. For example, an external tag may be utilized to emit a wireless signal usable inducing a response in each signal receiver of the signal receiver array. The device may also include one or more sensors usable in determining device orientation and/or a change in device orientation. The combined signal receiver response information and orientation information may be recorded at various instants as the device is moved for use in calibrating the antenna array.

  • Patent number: 8260324
Abstract: A system for establishing a wireless link from a wireless communication device (WCD) to at least one target device. The process of both identifying the target device and establishing a link to this device may incorporate the orientation and/or movement of the WCD into the procedure in lieu of the extensive use of traditional menu interfaces. A WCD may interpret a combination of orientation and/or movement as an approximate target device location that may be utilized to narrow the total population of all located devices into a subset containing those devices located within of near the approximate target device location. The subset of devices may be formulated and displayed as potential target devices for selection by a user. If any of the potential target devices are known by the WCD, a link may be established automatically.

  • Publication number: 20120178471
Abstract: A system for providing positioning information within a wireless communication signal. An apparatus may determine whether to provide information usable for positioning in a packet. If it is determined that positioning information will be provided in the packet, header information in the packet may be configured to indicate that the packet includes positioning information. The positioning information may then be included in the packet, which may then be transmitted. When the packet is an advertising packet, the packet may be transmitted on an advertising channel. A scanning apparatus may then receive the packet and may determine, based on the header information in the packet, whether the packet includes positioning information. If it is determined that the packet includes positioning information, positioning in the scanning apparatus may be configured based on the header information, and positioning may be performed in the scanning apparatus based on the positioning information in the packet.

  • Patent number: 8165850
Abstract: A system for measuring signals received by an apparatus. An antenna system in the apparatus may include two or more antennas. A receiver in the apparatus may be configured to measure signal response induced in the antenna system in accordance with a pattern. After the signal response for the antenna system is measured at least once, the pattern may be altered and the signal response for the antenna system may be measured again in accordance with the altered pattern. The signal response in the antenna system measured for the pattern may then be averaged with the signal response in the antenna system measured for the altered pattern, and the average may be utilized as input to, for example, a directional determination process.
